VISTA - Louise F. Trendel, 88, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at a local care center.
Born March 16, 1913, in Chicago, she lived in Vista for 27 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Vista Lioness Club, Palomar Weavers Guild and Garden Club of Vista. She was an honorary member of Castle Creek Country Club.
Mrs. Trendel is survived by her husband of 65 years, Howard J. Trendel of Vista; son Jack Trendel of Fullerton; daughter Carol Hathaway of Riverside; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. today, April 6, at Allen Bros. Mortuary Vista Chapel with the Rev. Richard L. Miller officiating. A private cremation is planned.

OCEANSIDE - Mary Jean Donovan, 77, died Tuesday, April 7, 2001, of cancer.
Born in 1924, in Sunnyside, Utah, she lived in Oceanside for 20 years. She served in the Women's Army Corps during World War II. She received an associate's degree from Pierce Jr. College in San Fernando.
Mrs. Donovan was preceded in death by her son, Kevin Donovan. She is survived by her husband Victor Donovan of Oceanside; son Gary Donovan of Oceanside; brothers Boyd Newbold of Salt Lake City and Russell Newbold of Tooele, Utah; sister Helen Vexler of Oceanside; and grandchildren Garret, Nicholas and Karli Donovan.
A memorial service is scheduled for noon, Saturday, April 21, at 1528 Saran Court. A private cremation with cremains buried at sea is planned.

Abraham Zagen, 88
VISTA - Abraham Zagen, 88, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at his home.
Born April 27, 1912, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Vista for 26 years. He was a window decorator for National Shoes for 42 years.
Mr. Zagen is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jacqueline Zagen of Vista; sons Harvey Zagen of Ridgefield, N.J., and Steven Zagen of Tenafly, N.J.; daughter Jane Palmiotti of Vista; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A private cremation is planned. No formal services will be held.

Dorothy Pfeiffer, 82
Dorothy, a 40 year resident of Escondido, passed away on April 1, 2001, after a long struggle with cancer and Alzheimer's Disease. She was born in Unionville, Mich., on Sept. 9, 1918, the daughter of Charlotte and Henry Rieck. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant Teachers College. She worked as a teacher and then a civilian secretary for the Army Air Corps during World War II. Later, she worked as a home health aide for 20 years until her retirement.
Dorothy had many interests including sewing and gardening, especially her rose and flower beds. In addition, she so enjoyed her cats and dogs that lived with her. She was an avid piano player, loved to dance and was an active member of the local Order of Foresters. She is survived by a son, LaRue and his wife, Carol, of San Diego; daughter Jody Goodwin and her husband, Ike, of Turner, Maine; as well as two grandchildren, Aimee and Eric Goodwin.
Mother Dear, you were your own person. We will miss your smile and will miss you very much.

Roy Allen
He did everything he ever wanted to do in life.
Roy Johnson Allen, MD, affectionately known as Doc Allen, passed away on April 1, 2001. He was best known for his caring nature and great sense of humor. He had a talent and genuine interest in getting to know all those he encountered, touching their lives.
Roy, born July 4, 1910 in Raymond, Iowa, was one of three children whose father was also a physician. He was educated in Jesup, Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa. He obtained his medical degree from Creighton University in Nebraska. Roy served as a major in the US Air Force during World War II.
His lifelong passion for helping others began as a general practitioner in Iowa, often making home visits to members of the farming community. In return for his medical care, Roy was known to receive anything from chickens to slabs of cherry tree lumber. Dr. Allen specialized in anesthesia in 1952. After opening up practice in Rock Island, Ill., he moved his family in 1961 to Anaheim, practicing at Anaheim Memorial and Martin Luther Hospitals. Settled in San Marcos, Dr. Allen retired in 1982 after serving 15 years at Tri-City, Fallbrook and Oceanside Hospitals.
Roy Allen, MD is survived by his wife, Rose; daughter Mary Boatwright; son John Allen; step-daughter Lynn Anson; step-son Jay Ackerman; grandchildren Lisa, Bart, Lynn, Jennifer, Alison, Phillip, Magon, John and Nicholas; and two great-grandchildren Lauren and Jack.

Carl Moser
Carl Moser passed away on March 31, 2001. Born June 11, 1931, in New York, Carl had lived in the Los Angeles area, Belgium and Chicago before becoming a Fallbrook resident in 1991. Carl was a graduate of Hamilton High and UCLA. He was a CPA and retired as a partner in the firm now known as PricewaterhouseCoopers. Carl was a community activist, a wonderful man and a terrific father.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law Lindsay and Milton Tope and Robin and Fredric Luckett; grandchildren Melissa Hagadone, Demarcus and Joncarl Luckett; great-grandson Charles Cole; brother and sister Sy and Sandra Cohn and other loving family members.

ANZA - Jim McGoldrick, 67, died Monday, March 26, 2001, at his home of a heart attack.
Born Feb. 19, 1934, in Pasadena, he lived in Anza for 10 years. He was a self-employed civil engineer.
Mr. McGoldrick is survived by his wife of 25 years, Midge McGoldrick, of Anza; sons Chris McGoldrick of Murrieta, John McGoldrick of San Francisco, James McGoldrick of Valencia, James McCracken of Anza and Paul McCracken of Hemet; sister Kathleen Ecker of Sierra Madre; and nine grandchildren.

POST FALLS, Idaho - Martha J. Maehler, 83, died Monday, April 2, 2001, at Guardian Angel Homes.
Born June 16, 1917, Carson City, Nev., she lived in Post Falls for only a short time, but had lived in Escondido most of her life. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Maehler was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Maehler, in 1994. She is survived by her sons Michael R. Maehler of Saratoga, Arthur R. Maehler of Escondido, Kenneth R. Maehler of Ramona and Wesley J. Maehler of Truckee; daughter Laureen A. Reynolds of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho; sister Rosemary Marquis of Goshen, Ind.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Born July 22, 1936, in Jalisco, Mexico, she lived in Oceanside for 25 years. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and Guadalu Panias.
Mrs. Guzman was preceded in death by her father, Domingo Guzman, on April 10, 1993. ESCONDIDO - Gretchen S. Milham, 84, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at her daughter's home of lung cancer.
Born Aug. 23, 1916, in Newark, N.Y., she lived in Escondido for more than 30 years. She worked for Palomar Junior College in the nursing division as a secretary and retired on Aug. 31, 1982.
Mrs. Milham was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Milham, on April 9, 1999. She is survived by son Rick Holland of San Jose; daughters and son-in-law Nancee and Ron Hanson of Escondido and Stefani Milham of Escondido; grandchildren Joe and Elissia Maes, Jon Maes, Samantha Branim, Justin Branim, Glennda Luhnow, Aaron and Kelli Hanson, Drew and Cori Hanson and Adam Hanson; and four great-grandchildren.

Born Feb. 5, 1922, in Batavia, N.Y., he lived in Escondido for 42 years. He was a self-employed hair stylist for 30 years. He was a member of the Elks Club and a volunteer for the Patio Playhouse. He served in the U.S. Navy as a motor machinist mate first class during World War II in the South Pacific. He enjoyed woodworking.
Mr. Marino is survived by his wife of 56 years, Connie J. Born March 13, 1924, in California, he lived in Valley Center for 13 years and previously in Orange County for 40 years. He was a member of San Pasqual Tribal Council and the American Legion of Escondido. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Harry Frank Godges
On April 3, 2001, after a brief illness, Harry Frank Godges passed away quietly at his home in Escondido with his loving family by his side. Harry was born Sept. 13, 1916, in Weirton, W. Va. He grew up on a farm in Windam, Ohio, with his younger brothers Raymond, of Whittier and Chester Godges, who died when Harry was eight years old. Harry attended Windam High School and was on the high school basketball and baseball teams. In his freshman year, he was immediately taken with Beulah May Bell, when she walked into his algebra class, and marriage
her 10 years later.
Harry attended Kent State University, studying accounting, and also working for Republic Steel. However, before Harry could complete his education, World War II broke out and he immediately enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Harry was promoted through the enlisted ranks to staff sergeant and, after attending officer candidate school in Miami Beach, Fla., was commissioned a second lieutenant in October 1943. During the war, he was promoted to captain while stationed in Norwich, England as a maintenance officer in the 8th Air Force, 735th bomb squad (H), the U.S. Air Force reserves in 1962.
After the war, Harry and Beulah moved to Los Angeles, where he attended the University of Southern California, and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1949 with an industrial engineering degree. He went to work for ALCOA as a production engineer, and later as plant superintendent of the Ingot and Extrusion departments in Vernon and Vancouver, Wash., plants. In 1977, he was transferred to the Paramaribo, Suriname operations of ALCOA and retired from there in August 1982 to Escondido Harry loved to play golf and held a nine handicap while a member of the Royal Oaks Country Club in Vancouver, Wash., and with the Escondido Country Club.
He is survived by his loving wife Beulah; brother Raymond; sons Dale and Gary; grandsons Brian and Brad; granddaughters Jenelle and Samantha; and great-grandsons Jacob and Austin.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that any donations be forwarded to VITAS Hospice, who took wonderful care of Harry in his time of need. Services are private.
Ryan James Shroyer
El Paso, Texas - Ryan James Shroyer, 14, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001. Ryan was an eighth grade student at Dr. Hornedo Middle School in El Paso, Texas. He is survived by his parents, Steve and Cathy (Meyers) Shroyer, previously of Encinitas, twin sister Britni, older brother Matt; his Oma, Suse Shroyer of Vista; grandparents Hope Meyers of Carlsbad; Dick and Jane Meyers of Arizona; Lloyd Shroyer of Oceanside; great-grandmother Hilda Shroyer of Encinitas; great-grandmother Helen Meyers of Vista; great-grandmother Helen Meyers of Vista; great-grandfather Heinrich Weingartner of Germany and his many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Ryan was an exceptional son, a wonderful brother and a great friend. He was devoted to the outdoors; loved animals and they in turn responded to his gentle nature with equal devotion. With all the challenges Ryan faced in his young life, not once did he complain or lose his wonderfully positive, loving attitude. We will miss you Ryan!

Born April 20, 1935, in Toledo, Ohio, she lived in Temecula for 12 years.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband of 15 years, William Smith, of Temecula; sons Ricky Schiller of Bricktown, N.J., and William Schiller of Apache Junction, Ariz.; daughters Luanne Forkapa of Maumee, Ohio, and Colleen Parmar of Bowling Green, Ohio; brother Dick Bloom of Port Clinton, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Lauretta Bosch, 91
Lauretta C. Bosch, 91, died peacefully after a lengthy illness, Friday afternoon, April 6, 2001, at her home in Escondido.
She was born in Yakima, Wash., on Dec. 11, 1909. At the age of six, the family moved to Orange. She attended St. Johnıs Lutheran Grade School and later graduated from Orange Union High School.
Lauretta worked at a savings and loan office in Orange, met her future husband, Al Bosch, marrying him in 1930. Several years later, the family moved to Escondido where she became active in civic and church affairs. She served as president of the Escondido Womenıs Club, the Lutheran Womenıs Missionary League, and was active in the Escondido Historical Society. She was instrumental in establishing the Redwood Terrace Retirement Community as a member of the founding board of directors.
Mrs. Bosch was preceded in death by her husband, H. Albert Bosch, in September 1999. She is survived by daughters Lois Finch of Walnut Creek and Janet Lueken of Silver City, N.M.; son Raymond Bosch of Escondido; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today, April 10, at Grace Lutheran Church on 13th Ave. in Escondido. A reception will follow in the recreation hall. A private graveside service will be held in Santa Ana on Wednesday.

He is survived by his parents, Steve and Cathy (Meyers) Shroyer, previously of Encinitas, twin sister Britni, older brother Matt; his Oma, Suse Shroyer of Vista; grandparents Hope Meyers of Carlsbad; Dick and Jane Meyers of Arizona; Lloyd Shroyer of Oceanside; great-grandmothers Hilda Shroyer of Encinitas and Helen Meyers of Vista; great-grandfather Heinrich Weingartner of Germany and his many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Ryan was an exceptional son, a wonderful brother and a great friend. He was devoted to the outdoors; loved animals and they in turn responded to his gentle nature with equal devotion. With all the challenges Ryan faced in his young life, not once did he complain or lose his wonderfully positive, loving attitude. We will miss you Ryan!
A memorial service is scheduled for noon, Monday, April 9, at San Dieguito United Methodist Church in Encinitas. Ryan will be laid to rest at El Camino Memorial Park, next to his great-grandfather, Emery Shroyer.

James E. Prestage, 69
James Elton Prestage, 69, of Escondido, died March 25, 2001. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday April 11, at Caring Community Church, 390 Mimosa Ave., in Vista. Officiating the service will be the Rev. Timothy Alch.
Mr. Prestage is survived by his wife, Edythe Prestage of Escondido; son Don Prestage of Tuscumbia, Ala.; daughters Sydney Ostrom of Escondido, Judy Fountain of Anderson, Ala., Pam Crosslin of Florence, Ala., and Shirley McDowell, of Elgin, Ala.; stepson Loren Corder of Carlsbad; stepdaughters Lucia Watts and Lexie Prestage of Escondido; daughter-in-law Amanda Prestage of Tuscumbia, Ala.; son-in-law Kurtis Ostrom of Escondido; sister Peggy Thompson of Collinwood, Tenn.; brothers Bob Prestage of New Bransaul, Texas and John Prestage of Escondido; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
