CARLSBAD - Michael Joseph Cavaretta, 45, died Friday, April 6, 2001, at his home in Carlsbad.
Born July 7,1955, in Canoga Park, he was a resident of Carlsbad for 10 years. He was a designer for Freeman Enterprises and a member of Local Union #831.
Mr. Cavaretta is survived by his parents, Eileen and Lewis Cavaretta of Carlsbad; brothers Joseph, Timothy and Thomas Cavaretta of Carlsbad; and sisters Patricia Cavaretta and Kathleen Anderson of Carlsbad.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. April 20, 2001, at St. Mary's, Star of the Sea in Oceanside.
The family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society, 8880 Rio San Diego, Ste. 100, San Diego, CA 92108.

Sofija Petkovich, 75
ESCONDIDO - Sofija Petkovich, 75, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001 in Escondido.
Born September 18, 1925 in Beograd, Yugoslavia, she was a resident of Escondido for four years.
She was retired after 30 years as a self-employed caterer and seamstress.
Mrs. Petkovich is survived by daughters Danica Stanarcic of Palomar Mountain and Gordana Dimitrijevic of Beograd, Yugoslavia; brother Bosko Katic of Australia; sister Zivka Kostic of Beograd, Yugoslavia; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
There will be a visitation from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2001 at St. Petka's Serbian Orthodox Church in San Marcos. A funeral will follow at 1 p.m. Father Milan Vukovic and Father B.T. Draskovic will officiate. Interment icon will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Escondido.

Norma Kohout, 72
ESCONDIDO - Norma Ann Kohout, 72, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at her home in Escondido.
Born June 24, 1928, she was a resident of Escondido for 20 years. She was a secretary for various companies.
Mrs. Kohout is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Linda Kohout of Rush Prarie, Wash.; daughters and sons-in-law Anne and Dean White of Escondido and Dorene and Dan Noonan of Bartlett, Ill.; daughter Ruth Kohout of Escondido; brother and sister-in-law, Edwin and Carol Hudec of Mountain Home, Ark.; grandchildren Lori and Mike Lane, Andy and Janice Kohout, Gene and Dawn Kohout, Sean and Kristen Noonan, and Daneen Noonan; and five great-grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2001 at McLeod Mortualy Chapel in Escondido. Burial will be at sea.

Hildah Muhr, 69
PERRIS - Hildah Muhr, 69, died Monday, April 9, 2001, in Perris.
Born May 22, 1931, in Brazil, she was a self-employed seamstress for 35 years.
Mrs. Muhr is survived by her husband, Frank Muhr, of Sun City; sons Ernie and Frank Muhr of Canada; and daughter Freda Harward of Austria.
A service will be held at 1:30 p.m. April 11 at the Sun City Bible Church. Burial will be at sea.

Wilma Hamilton Witkowski, 92
Wilma H. Witkowski, 92, died at home March 30, 2001, in Fallbrook.
Born Oct. 9, 1908, in El Paso, Texas, she lived continuously in South Dakota County from 1920. She graduated from S.D. State in 1930, and taught in South Dakota city schools from 1930 to 1941. She was a longtime member of University Christian Church, First and Palisades Presbyterian Churches. After moving to Fallbrook in 1996, she joined Fallbrook Assembly of God.
She made many trips to Tijuana teaching English with Laubach Literacy program. Children were her special delight as she taught various Sunday school classes and later years served in Child Evangelism Fellowship.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Charles Witkowski. She is survived by daughters Linda Blazo and husband Paul, Carol Good and husband Phillip; grandchildren LCDR. Charles Good, Carice Blazo, Kristin Good, Teresa Littrell and husband Brandon; and one great-grandson; four beloved nieces and nephews. Their spouses, children and grandchildren.
A memorial service was held April 7.
Memorial donations may be made to San Diego Rescue Mission, or Educational Services, Intl. 444 E. Huntington Drive, No. 200, Arcadia CA 1006.
Wilma will be greatly missed.

Richard F. Johnson, 80
Richard F. "Dick" Johnson, 80, passed away after a brief illness on Monday, April 9, at 5:30 p.m. at his home in Oceanside. He was under hospice care and was surrounded by family and friends. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, April 13, at the Oceanside Masonic Lodge, 511 Eucalyptus St. in Oceanside.
Dick Johnson had a distinguished career in the U.S. Forest Service for more than 30 years and helped promote the Smokey the Bear program. Dick performed his military service in the U.S. Coast Guard.
Dick Johnson was known to and loved by many Oceanside residents whom he never met, because for five years during his retirement he produced and hosted the "Senior Scene of Oceanside " - a weekly television program on KOCT. In addition to dedicating numerous volunteer hours to the station, Dick Johnson also served on the board of directors of KOCT - Oceanside Community Television for six years and was chairman of the board for two terms.
Dick Johnson became a Mason in 1962 and actively participated in the Oceanside Lodge 381 and Hi-Twelve Club. He was an active member of the San Diego Scottish Rite where he was honored as KCCH.
Dick Johnson is survived by his widow GreNell Johnson (his wife of 55 years) and son John Johnson and Susie of Tucson and son Brian Johnson and Diane of Kauai, and brother Elroy Johnson of Northern California. The family requests that any donations be made to a hospice organization in North County.

Robert Hoyal, 86
SAN MARCOS - Robert Grant Hoyal, 86, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, of natural causes.
Born July 6, 1914, in Los Angeles, he lived in San Marcos for 10 years. He was a registered environmental health specialist for the Department of Health Services for the state of California and retired on Jan. 6, 1975. He was a ship's carpenter in the Merchant Marines and a seaman for the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a member of Hidden Valley Christian Church in Escondido, a life member Mariposa Lodge 24, F&A Mason, Panama Canal Commandary Knight Templar, Allied Masonic Degree, El Camino Real York Rite College No. 131, Abou Saad Shrine in Panama Canal, No. Cty, Daylight Lodge 843, Masonic Hi-Twelve Club No. 437 in Escondido, and Past Patron Order of Eastern Star No. 200 in Mariposa.
Mr. Hoyal was preceded in death by his parents Irene and James Hoyal. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elnor R. Hoyal of San Marcos; daughter and son-in-law Rowena and Dan Eller of San Marcos; brothers and sisters-in-law Daryl and Bonnie Benstead of Cardiff, Vera Cook of Mariposa and Frances Price of Spokane, Wash.; sister Mary Bayha of Temple City; grandchildren Richard Bybee and Jeffrey Bybee; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, at Hidden Valley Christian Church in Escondido with the Rev. Henry Willson of Masonic Daylight Lodge 843 of Escondido officiating.
The family suggests memorial donations to Elizabeth Hospice, 150 W. Crest St., Escondido, CA 92025.

Shirley L. Perry, 58
OCEANSIDE - Shirley L. Perry, 58, died Saturday, April 7, 2001.
Born Nov. 23, 1942, in Glendale, she lived in Oceanside for one year. She was a dental technician from 1965 to 1975 and a purchasing agent for San Diego Naval Hospital from 1975 to 2000. She retired in September, 2000. She was a member of Scotch Terrier Association and enjoyed gardening.
Ms. Perry was preceded in death by her father, Harold D. Perry on Oct. 14, 1980. She is survived by her companion of 20 years, Dennis Paige of Oceanside; and mother Ruth M. Perry of Fontana.
No services will be held at the request of the deceased. A private cremation and scattering at sea is planned.
The family suggests memorial donations to Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, 700 Broadway, Suite 810, Denver, CO 80203-9645.

She was born March 30, 1911, in Colchester, Vt. and was a homemaker.
Mrs. McGrath is survived by her son, Thomas J. McGrath of Alpine; daughter Jacqueline Lamp of Escondido; brothers Edward Richard of N. Hartland, Vt., Robert Richard of Colchester, Vt., Leo Richard of Florida and Edmund Richard of Plattsburg, N.Y.; sister Bernadette Babbitt of New Hampshire; and two grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial donations to Elizabeth Hospice, 150 W. Crest St., Escondido, CA 92025.

Margaret Martin, 88
ESCONDIDO - Margaret A. Martin, 88, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001.
Born Feb. 15, 2001, in Artesia, she lived in Escondido for 30 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband, Henry H. Martin, in 1987. She is survived by her niece Margaret A. LaPore of Hayward; nephew James E. Ashby of Escondido; and cousin Ila Ashby of Encinitas.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, April 16, at Oak Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Huls officiating.

Donald Tulodieski Sr., 58
SOLANA BEACH - Donald B. Tulodieski Sr., 58, died Monday. April 9, 2001, at his home.
Born Sept. 25, 1942, in Trenton, N.J., he lived in Solana Beach for 13 years. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy class of 1965 and served in the submarine service while on active duty. He was a self-employed nuclear engineering consultant.
Mr. Tulodieski is survived by his wife, Ronnie Tulodieski of Solana Beach; sons and daughter-in-law Donald Jr. and Julie Tulodieski of Kennesaw, Ga., Christian Tulodieski of Alexandria, Va.; grandchildren Jack and Molly Elizabeth; mother Bertha Tulodieski of Norfolk, Va; and brother John F. Tulodieski of Norfolk, Va.
Visitation is scheduled for 10 a.m. and a funeral Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, April 16, at Nativity Catholic Church in Rancho Santa Fe. Interment icon will follow at Camino Memorial Park in San Diego.

William Dunham, 90
OCEANSIDE - William Donaldson "By" Dunham, 90, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, in Encinitas of natural causes.
Born May 2, 1910, in New York City, he lived in Oceanside for 10 years. He was a songwriter and was nominated for an Academy Award. He wrote the songs for "Flipper," Disney's "101 Dalmatians," )the original version), "Boy Did I Get a Wrong Number," and "I'll Take Sweden" starring Bob Hope. He was a member of ASCAP and Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.
Mr. Dunham is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law Fentress Geoffrey Dunham, Esq. and Kathleen Dunham of Sebastopol and David Newhall Dunham of Sonoma; daughter Hillary Hill of Palm Springs; grandchildren Fentress Scott Dunham, David Arthur Schanhals; Angelica Catherine Peulicke and Julia Angelica Dunham Burgess; and four great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held. A private cremation with scattering at sea is planned.

Joe Williams, 52
CARDIFF - Joe Williams, 52, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, of leukemia.
Born Nov. 9, 1948, in Trenton, Texas, he lived in Cardiff for five years and had been a resident of San Diego County for 19 years. He was employed by Palomar Technological Companies. He was an avid golfer.
Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his father, Ranzy Williams and brother Billy C. Williams. He is survived by his companion of 22 years, Jo Anne Lopez of Cardiff; mother Cleo English of Arlington, Texas; brothers and sisters-in-law Jerry and Lea Williams of N. Richard Hills, Texas, Don and Kathleen Williams of Pottsboro, Texas and Jon and Marjorie Williams of Arlington, Texas.
A graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, May 19, at Burns Cemetery in Trenton.

Elizabeth Garcia, 50
TEMECULA - Elizabeth Acosta Garcia, 50, died Monday, April 9, 2001, at Sharp Memorial Hospital of renal failure.
Born May 5, 1950, in the Philippines, she lived in Temecula for three years. She was employed by Headstart. She graduated from San Diego State University and had been a social worker for more than 25 years.
Mrs. Garcia is survived by her husband of 29 years, Reynaldo Garcia of Temecula; mother Susana Acosta of Oceanside; father Benmar Acosta of Oceanside; son Reynante Garcia of Vista; daughter ReynaLisa Garcia of Temecula; daughter-in-law Jonita Hux of Vista; brothers Alex Acosta of San Diego and Art Acosta of Oceanside; and sisters June Acosta of San Diego, Dorothy Acosta of Oceanside and Margie Acosta of San Diego.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 16 and Tuesday, April 17, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. A memorial service is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at Mission San Luis Rey. A private cremation is planned.

Richard Overstreet, 42
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Richard Alan Overstreet, 42, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, of cystic fibrosis.
Born Oct. 19, 1958, in San Diego, he lived in San Diego and Vista since 1983, and moved to Texas two years ago, in the hope that a lung transplant would be available sooner. He was a member of Great Fellowship.
Mr. Overstreet was preceded in death by his father, Coy Overstreet. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Karen Overstreet of Grand Prairie, Texas; mother Judith A. Coffelt of Vista; step-father Duane R. Coffelt of Vista; daughter Sarah of Grand Prairie; brothers Ron Overstreet of Eagle Point, Ore., and Paul Coffelt of Vista; and sisters Robin Janelle Feldmeyer of Hilo Hawaii.
A memorial will be held at a later date with Steve Whitten officiating. A private cremation and scattering is planned.

Charles Lett, 70
ESCONDIDO - Charles Doug Lett, 70, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, in Russell Springs, Ky., of a stroke.
Born Oct. 4, 1930, in Buffalo, N.Y., he lived in Escondido for 16 years. He was a minister at Bread of Life Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955 as a staff sergeant. He worked for FAA Communications and was a minister since 1985.
Mr. Lett is survived by his wife of 25 years, Ruth Lett of Escondido; sons Douglas Lett Jr., and Ricky Lett, both of Buffalo; daughters and son-in-law Wendy and Doug Richardson of Buffalo and Amanda Clack of Escondido; brother George Lett of Buffalo; sisters and brother-in-law Gloria Bidenkoff of Buffalo and Carol and Ed Kowalski of Buffalo; and grandchildren Jared, Caitlyn and Angela.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at Christian Life Assembly with the Rev. Wayne Clarke officiating.

Glen Amick, 83
OCEANSIDE - Glen Amick, 83, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at his home.
Born March 24, 1918, in White Flat, Texas, he lived in Oceanside for nine years. He retired in 1980 from Lucky Stores Inc. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Amick is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jewell Amick of Oceanside; sons and daughters-in-law John and Bonnie Amick of Oceanside and Ron and Asta Amick of Poway; brothers Elmer Amick of Ontario, Clyde Amick of San Diego and Wiley Amick of Hemet; sisters Edna, Valda, and Ophelia; and grandchildren Heather, Ben, Lauren, Jacob and Dylon.
A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. today, April 11, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. Burial will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.
The family suggests memorial donations to Hospice by the Sea, 812 S. Cedros Ave. Suite 250, Solana Beach, CA 92075.

Evelyn D. Flaherty, 81
MURRIETA - Evelyn D. Clarey Flaherty, 81, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, from complications of a stroke and Alzheimer's disease.
Born June 2, 1919, in Claremont, N.H., she lived in Murrieta since 1977. She graduated from Bellows Falls, VT High School and Becker College in Providence, R.I. She had lived in Aberdeen, Md., Santa Monica, Torrance and Manhattan Beach before retiring to Murrieta. She worked for Brinks Inc. in Providence in clerical work. She also worked for Hughes Aircraft in El Segundo as an electronics buyer. She won seven blue ribbons in showing cats. She enjoyed leather work, tropical fish, gardening, animal training and cooking.
Mrs. Flaherty is survived by her husband of 30 years, Joseph H. Flaherty; and sister Virginia Reynolds of Spokane, Wash.
No services will be held at the request of the deceased.
