FALLBROOK - Ruth Bowers Baldridge, 81, died Feb. 10, 2001, in Moreno Valley Hospital.
Born March 21, 1919, in Pittsburgh, she lived in Fallbrook for 25 years. She had been a school teacher in Pasadena and did substitute teaching in Fallbrook.
Mrs. Baldridge was preceded in death by her husband, Bush Baldridge, in 1998.

Robert Peters, 74
OCEANSIDE - Robert Peters, 74, died Friday, April 13, 2001, in Orange.
Born in 1926, in Monrovia, he lived in Oceanside.
Mr. Peters is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy Peters of Oceanside; sons and daughters-in-law Tom and Carole Peters of Vista and Bill and Lil Peters of Dana Point; daughter and son-in-law Nanette and Greg Yesionek of Redlands; and grandchildren Taryn, Ashley, Amy and husband Michael, Gary and wife Julia, Todd, Brooke, Sky and wife Tara and Travis.
A memorial service will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Shadowridge County Club in Vista. A private cremation and scattering at sea is planned.

Julia McIntyre, 91
SANTA MONICA - Julia A. McIntyre, 91, died Monday, April 16, 2001, in Los Angeles.
Born March 17, 1910, in Italy, she lived in Santa Monica for three years and was previously from Escondido for 35 years.
Ms. McIntyre is survived by niece Loretta Roberts and her husband Paul; great-niece Mary Neville and husband Dave; great-nephews Michael Roberts and wife Jolian and Chris Roberts; and great-great nephew John Paul Neville.
A private memorial service is planned.

Charles Gubser, 69
FALLBROOK - Charles S. Gubser, 69, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001.
Born Oct. 26, 1931, in Glendale, he self-employed in desk top graphics.
Mr. Gubser was preceded in death by his daughter, Cherie Lynn Gubser, in 1988. He is survived by his son Charles T. Gubser of Greenville, S.C.; brother and sister-in-law Raymond and Fran Gubser of New Mexico; sisters and brothers-in-law Bobbie and Mark Golding of Utah and Pam and Mike Geary of Las Vegas.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, April 23, at Christ the King Lutheran Church of Fallbrook. A private cremation is planned.

Raymond Pinkert, 75
VISTA - Raymond Pinkert, 75, died Sunday, April 15, at Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside of pneumonia.
Born Dec. 18, 1925, in West Station, Texas, he lived in Vista since July 2000. He was a chrome plater and worked for Rockwell Aviation for 30 years until his retirement in 1985.
Mr. Pinkert is survived by his sons Keith Pinkert of Oceanside and Kevin Pinkert of Dana Point; stepson Pinkert of Laguna Hills and stepdaughter Patti Coates of San Clemente; brother and sister-in-law Earl and Minnie Pinkert of Medford, Ore.; sister Irene Lockard of Orland and Evelyn Adams of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at First Presbyterian Church in Oceanside.

Christopher Shaw, 37
HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. - Christopher Shaw, 37, died Friday, April 6, 2001.
Born Jan. 6, 1964, in Somerville, Mass., he was from Boston and recently moved to Highlands Ranch. He was a sales associated for Home Depot in West Roxbury, Mass. He was a member of North American Hunting Club, North Ridge Outfitters Association, Humboldt State Forestry Club, U.S. Forest Service and Humboldt State Logging Club.
Mr. Shaw is survived by his wife, Kimberly Green Shaw of Boston; daughter Shelby Shaw of Boston; mother and father Anita L. and Louis E. Shaw, both of San Diego; brothers David L. Shaw and Michael T. Shaw, both of Denver; and sister Jennifer A. Shaw of San Diego.
A Mass will be celebrated at noon, Saturday, April 21, at St. Catherine of Genoa Catholic Church in Somerville, Mass. A second Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, April 23, at Pax Christi Catholic Church in Highlands Ranch. A private cremation with interment at Olinger Mount Lindo Cemetery is planned.
The family suggests memorial donations in Chris' name to Marrow Fund, 400 Seventh St. NW, Suite 206, Washington, DC 20004, Attn: Michael Peter.

Joyce Wilson, 51
FOUNTAIN VALLEY - Joyce Norma Wilson, 51, died Friday, April 6, 2001, at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital after suffering full cardiac arrest on Monday, April 2, at her home.
Born March 28, 1947, in Long Beach, she lived in the Orange County area for the last 32 years. She had worked for Bristol park Medical Group in Costa Mesa for five years and Edinger Medical Group in Huntington Beach.
Ms. Wilson is survived by her mother, Miriam J. Wilson of Oceanside; brothers Steven B. Wilson of Topeka, Kan., and Dr. Gregory B. Wilson of Greenville, S.C.; sisters-in-law Maria Wilson of Abilene, Kan., and July Wilson of Greenville, S.C.
Her cremains will be buried at sea.

Juanita Ness, 90
CARLSBAD - Juanita M. Ness, 90, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at her daughter's home in Lake San Marcos of cancer.
Born July 29, 1910, in Sparta, Ohio, she lived in Carlsbad for 10 years. She retired in 1967 from Lake County Court House. She was a member of the Emblem Club No. 116 in Oceanside and a lifetime member of No. 85 in Painesville, Ohio. She was a member of the Golf Association and a volunteer for Crippled Children. She was past president of American Legion Auxiliary.
Mrs. Ness was preceded in death by her first husband, Albert M. Davino; second husband Donald W. Ness; daughter Debora Lynn Ness; and grandson James Kevin Davino. She is survived by son James R. Davino of San Clemente and stepson Albert M. Davino of Ashtabula, Ohio; daughter and son-in-law Sharon D. and W. L. "Hap" Adams of San Marcos; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service is planned for a later date in Painesville, Ohio. A private cremation and inurnment in Painesvillle, Ohio is planned.

Maria Guillen, 84
ENCINITAS - Maria S. Guillen, 84, died Sunday, April 15, 2001, at her home.
Born Nov. 16, 1916, in Anaheim, she lived in Encinitas for 47 years. She retired in 1996 and was a parishioner of St. John's Catholic Church.
Mrs. Guillen was preceded in death by her husband, Pedro S. Guillen, on Jan. 23 1986. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Ruben and Stella Guillen of Oceanside; daughters and sons-in-law Marian and Augustine Castillo of San Marcos, Lupe and Ignacio Burgos of Vista, Mary and Johnny Montanez of Vista and Hope Hill of Carlsbad; brother and sister-in-law Manuel and Adelaide Mora of Perris; sister Marcelina Mora of Escondido; grandchildren Ruben Jr., Victor, Steven, Jesse, Nadine, Peter, Robbie, Valerie, Natalie, Ruben, Gina, Zeke, Daniel, Peter; six step-grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Viewing was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at Eternal Hills Mortuary. A Mass was held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 19, at St. John's Church in Encinitas and burial followed.
The family suggests memorial donations to San Diego Hospice, 4311 Third Ave., San Diego, CA 92103.

Adrian Pifer, 78
VISTA - Adrian Charles Pifer, 78, died Monday, April 9, 2001, at his home.
Born March 27, 1923, in Nunda, N.Y., he lived in Vista for 18 years. He had worked for McDonnel Douglas Aircraft. He retired as a major in the U.S. Marine Corps Aviation after serving 23 years. He served from 1941 to 1964, during World War II and the Korean War as General Vandergrift's chief. He was a Scottish Rite Mason 32 degree. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association; a former chief at Santa Ana, Nation Y-Indian Guides. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was the holder of a record largemouth bass at Lake Henshaw at 14 pounds.
Mr. Pifer was preceded in death by his grandson, Adam Pifer, in 1993. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Vivian Pifer of Vista; sons Gary Pifer of Oceanside and Douglas Pifer of Albany, Ore.; daughters-in-law Holly Pifer of Oceanside and Nancy Pifer of Albany, Ore.; and grandchildren Amanda, Lindsey, Lucas, Garrett and Kelly.
No services will be held at the request of the deceased. A private cremation is planned.

Ann Nelson, 88
VISTA - Ann Krystine Nelson, 88, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at her home.
Born Feb. 5, 1913, in Mansfield, Ohio, she lived in Vista for 18 years. She was a court reporter for Richland County Common Pleas Court for 30 years.
Mrs. Nelson is survived by her brother William Hammer of Vista; sister Ilene Schnell of Ashland, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
No formal services are planned. A private cremation with burial at Mansfield Memorial Park in Mansfield, Ohio is planned.

Mararet Holley, 87
HEMET - Mararet B. Holley, 87, died Friday, April 13, 2001, in Hemet.
Born Jan. 19, 1914, in Pala, she lived in Hemet for 37 years. She had worked for the city of Hemet. She served as tribal secretary for Pala Band of Cupeno Indians and was a founding member of Cupa Cultural Center. She was president of Professional Business Women's Club, a member of Ramona Pageant Association, California Indian Education Association and Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church and Choir.
Mrs. Holley is survived by brother James Brittian of Hemet; sisters Ione Mendez of San Jacinto and Bertha Jackson of Pacifica; numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Visitation and rosary is scheduled for today, April 20, at Pala Mission in Pala with the Rev. Marconi officiating. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at Pala Mission with Marconi officiating. Burial will follow at Pala Cemetery with Marconi officiating.

Philip Arena, 68
ESCONDIDO - Philip "Phil" Arena, 68, died Sunday, April 15, 2001.
Born June 17, 1932, in Cliffton, N.J., he lived in Escondido for 57 years. He worked for the Humane Society and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Escondido High School.
Mr. Arena is survived by his mother Concetta "Connie" Arena of Escondido; brother Joseph "Joe" Arena of Escondido and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A graveside with full military honors will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 20, at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Doris Hartmann, 81
VISTA - Doris Marguerite Hartmann, 81, died Sunday, April 15, 2001.
Born July 17, 1919, in Nanticoke, Canada, she lived in Vista for 15 years. She was a member of Shadowridge Country Club and St. Mark's Parish.
Mrs. Hartmann was preceded in death by her husband, Rupert L. Hartmann, on April 30, 1998 and son Phil Hartmann on May 28, 1998. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law John and Valerie Hartmann of Topanga Canyon and Paul and Christy Hartmann of Aguanga; daughters and son-in-law Jane Hartmann of San Francisco, Nancy and Joseph Martino of Sidney, Ohio, Martha Willey of Santa Maria and Mary Hartmann of Dana Point; sister Madelyn Tonkin of Mexico City Beach, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today, April 20, at St. Mark's Catholic Church in San Marcos with the Rev. Burt Bowdoin officiating. A private cremation is planned.

Ruth Treadwell, 70
OCEANSIDE - R. Ruth Treadwell, 70, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, of lung cancer.
Born Jan. 16, 1931, in Denver, she lived in Oceanside for 33 years. She was employed as an accountant for 20 years with Camp Pendleton Base Clubs Systems. She was a member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church where she taught Continuing Christian Development and serving as both a lector and Eucharistic minister. She did volunteer work at the hospital at Camp Pendleton.
Mrs. Treadwell was preceded in death by her father, Frank Quintana, on Sept. 24, 1989. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Cecil Myers Treadwell of Oceanside; mother Roman R. Quintana of Northglenn Colo.; son Cecil G. Treadwell of Oceanside; daughters and sons-in-law Diana and Bill Calder of Oceanside and Beverly and Bill Alexander of Victorville; brothers Frank E. Quintana of Denver and Robert L. Quintana of Arvada, Colo.; sister Marguerite F. Ellis of Northglenn, Colo.; grandchildren Michael, William, Matthew, Mark and Rebecca Alexander and Sandra, Russell and Roxy Calder; and three great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. with a memorial Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. today, April 20, at St. Margaret's Catholic Church with the Rev. Bill Gold officiating. A private cremation is planned.

Mary Bastyr, 82
ESCONDIDO - Mary J. Bastyr, 82, died Friday, April 13, 2001.
Born March 19, 1919, in Richlands, Va., she lived in Escondido for five years. She was a homemaker for 57 years. She served in the U.S. Army during World War II. She enjoyed gardening, country music, traveling, square dancing and reading.
Mrs. Bastyr is survived by her husband of 57 years, Irvin Bastyr of Escondido; son and daughter-in-law Bill and Carmen Bastyr of Cerritos; daughter and son-in-law Judy and Clay Sweatland of Escondido; brothers and sisters-in-law Ken and Joan Wysor of Richlands, Va; Bill and Lula Wysor of Richlands, Va., and George and Carol Wysor of Slaughter, La.; and grandchildren Michelle and Michael Voye of Murrieta and Nicole Bastyr of Cerritos.
A graveside service is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 23, at Riverside National Cemetery with Steve Delamarian officiating.

Mary Walsingham, 63
VISTA - Mary R. Walsingham, 63, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Tri-City Medical Center.
Born Aug. 5, 1937, in Duluth, Minn., she lived in Vista for one year. She was previously from Riverside since 1963.
Mrs. Walsingham was preceded in death by her son, Rod Walsingham, on June 5, 1977. She is survived by her son, Rory Walsingham of Salem, Ore.; sister and brother-in-law Susan and Marvin Michelotti of Great Falls, Mont.; and grandson Rodney Aaron Walsingham.
Interment service is scheduled for 2 p.m. today, April 20, at Crestlawn Memorial Park and Mortuary in Corona.

OCEANSIDE - Lawrence "Larry" Fajardo, 46, died Sunday, April 15, 2001.
Born Nov. 7, 1954, in Santa Monica, he worded for IESA in international sales.
Mr. Fajardo is survived by his wife, Bente Fajardo of Oceanside; mother Jan Fajardo; father Tony Fajardo; sons and daughters-in-law John and Ayako of San Diego and Chris and Lauren of Los Angeles; daughter Trine of Oceanside; sisters and brothers-in-law Olivia of Arizona, Marion and Dale of Arizona and Emily and Russ of Alta Loma; grandson Joshua; and seven uncles.
A Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. with interment following, Friday, April 27, at Mission San Luis Rey with the Rev. Ken officiating.

Lefton Johnson Sr., 75
FALLBROOK - Lefton Durrel Johnson Sr., 75, died Monday, April 16, 2001.
Born Aug. 1, 1925, in Brewton, Ala., he was a retired independent truck driver and worked for Armour Oil Co. for 15 years. He served in the U.S. Navy for 16 years.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his son Lefton D. Johnson Jr. and wife Connie of Fallbrook; daughters and son-in-law Beth and Rep Purves of Irrigon, Ore., Nickie Johnson of Kennewick, Wash., and Ree Decker of Boardman, Ore.; brothers and sister-in-law J.B. and Laura Johnson of Centry, Fla., and J.C. Johnson of Florida; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. today, April 20, at Community Baptists Church with the Rev. Art Blodgett officiating. A private cremation is planned.

Wilbert McIntyre, 84
LAKE SAN MARCOS - Wilbert John McIntyre, 84, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, in Oceanside.
Born Oct. 19, 1916, in New York City, he lived in the county for 20 years. He retired from Pennsylvania Railroad as a mailroom supervisor after 30 years. He served as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church.
Mr. McIntyre is survived by his wife of 33 years, Louise McIntyre of Lake San Marcos; sisters Celeste McIntyre and Florence McIntyre, both of Pelham Manor, N.Y.; and nephew Gregory Furke of Pelham Manor, N.Y.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, at St. Mark's Catholic Church with the Rev. George Dunkley officiating. A private interment at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma is planned.
