Born April 10, 1928, in San Diego, she lived in Ramona all her life. She attended Ramona schools and graduated from Ramona High School. She was a homemaker and enjoyed music and playing the piano and organ.
Mrs. Booth is survived by her sons Joe Booth Jr. of Ramona, Robert Booth of Ramona, Jimmy booth of San Marcos and Earl Moshbach of Ramona; brothers Elmer Logan of Los Angeles and Bard Logan of Phoenix; sisters Ethel of Fallbrook and Bonnie of Huntington Beach; and two grandchildren.
Viewing is scheduled for noon, and funeral service at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at Bonham Bros. & Lee Ramona Chapel with the Rev. Pete Mayfield officiating. Graveside service and burial will follow at Nuevo Memory Gardens.

ESCONDIDO - Manuel F. Espinosa, 64, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001.
Born June 10, 1936, in Fresnillo, Zacatecas, Mexico, he lived in Escondido for 42 years. He was a cement finisher for Davis Concrete Inc. for 25 years. He enjoyed gardening.
Mr. Espinosa is survived by his wife of 36 years, Consuelo Espinosa of Escondido; sons and daughter-in-law Joe Bueno of Rialto, Steve Paceno of Hollywood and Juan and Renee Espinosa of Escondido; daughters and sons-in-law Shirley and Robert Wolfe of Escondido and Lupe and Frank Ortega of Escondido; brother Guadalupe Espinosa of Mexico; sisters Luisa Rodarte of Mexico and Felicita Ontiveros of Mexico; aunt Carmen Espinosa of Escondido; grandchildren Julie Serrato, Jessica Brieno, Guiseppi and Dante Bueno; and six great-grandchildren.

SOLANA BEACH - Helen White, 89, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, in a San Diego care center.
Born June 17, 1911, in DuBois, Pa., she had lived in Solana Beach for 26 years.
Mrs. White is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Jo Ann Milligan of Livonia, Mich., Marylinn Jarratt of Tustin, J. Cathleen and LeRoy Winkler of Clawson, Mich., Dolores and Michael Dertinger of Commerce Township, Mich. and Deborah and Michael Huhn of Farmington Hill, Mich.; sons Jerome White of Spring Valley and Christopher White of Lakeside; sister Ruth Armijo of Albuquerque, N.M.; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. with rosary recited at 7 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at the Encinitas Chapel. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, April 23, at St. Leo's Catholic Mission. A private Interment will be at El Camino Memorial Park in San Diego.

Peter G. "Sonny" Tholl, Jr.
Mr. Tholl was born on Sept. 3, 1940 in Pasadena. He grew up in Del Mar and graduated from San Dieguito High School. He joined the Navy, returned home and worked at the Del Mar Race Track Carpentry Shop. He was very talented and creative
in many aspects of his life. He became a general contractor specializing in
structural concrete. He received a heart transplant in 1990, at UCSD Medical
Center. He died April 16, 2001, at home.
He is survived by his spouse, Kenlon Van Kempin; daughter Susanne Costello; son Peter G. Tholl, III; grandchildren Jack, Nicholas, and Nathan; brother Robert Tholl; and his dog Mindy. He will be missed.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Sea Grove Park in Del Mar.

Margaret Elizabeth (Maul) Oram, 83 years old, died on Tuesday, April 17, 2001, in Rancho Bernardo. Beloved mother of Robert Oram. Loving mother of Thomas Carlisle and Nancy Hadley, and the mother-in-law of Karen Carlisle and Ken Hadley. Devoted grandmother of Todd, Nathan, Jessica and Trevor. Also survived by her brother, Ted Maul and her niece and nephews.
Her warmth, sweetness and loving disposition will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on April 23, at the First Congregational Church in Escondido.

ESCONDIDO - Laura Denise Keck-Nelson, 36, died Monday, April 16, 2001.
Born Nov. 20, 1964, in Riverside, she lived in Escondido for five years. She was a homemaker for six years.
Mrs. Keck-Nelson was preceded in death by her daughter, Bianca Keck, in 1993.
She is survived by her husband, Rick E. Nelson of Escondido; mother Marilyn M. Keck and father Raymond K. Keck, both of Phoenix; stepson Tyler Nelson of Escondido; stepdaughters Brittney Nelson and Ashleigh Nelson, both of Las Vegas; brother David Keck of Schfield, Ohio; sisters Marie Asp of Cleveland and Martha Pszenitzki of Big Prarie, Ohio; step-granddaughter Kayleigh Nelson of Las Vegas; nephew Robert Reynolds; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, April 23, at Community Lutheran Church at Valley Parkway and Lake Wohlford Road with the Rev. William R. Vogelsang Jr. officiating. A private cremation is planned. Following the service, lunch will be served at Eastwoods Meadows Clubhouse at 2550 E. Valley Parkway. Friends are welcome to bring a side dish or dessert.

SUN CITY - Joyce Lela Johnson, 57, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Menifee Valley Medical Center.
Born Jan. 8, 1944, in Bell Garden, she lived in Sun City for 29 years. She was a homemaker for 39 years and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed painting and collecting Beanie Babies and Chihuahuas.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband, Thomas Johnson, of Sun City; daughter Theresa Dunn of Sun City; sisters Joan Adulto of Rockford, Ill., and Dorothy "Jackie" Owens of La Palma; and two grandchildren.

Richard Meden, 64
TEMECULA - Richard Ernest Meden, 64, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at Inland Valley Regional Medical Center in Wildomar.
Born April 6, 1937, in Alpena, Mich., he lived in Temecula since 1999. He did undergraduate work at Albion College and the University of Michigan. He received a law degree in June 1961 from Tulane University in New Orleans. He served in the Army National Guard. He joined the law firm of Donald K. Gillard. In 1971, he was appointed as probate and juvenile court judge of Alpena County. He was president of the 26th Judicial Circuit Bar Association. He served as director and vice president of the Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the Probate and Juvenile Judges Association of Michigan. He was the former chairman of the Alpena County Republican Party and its executive committee and a convention delegate. He served as commodore of the Alpena Yacht Club and secretary-treasurer of the International Shipmaster's Association Lodge 19. He was a former member of the White Birch Hunting Club in Wellington Township and a member of the Lake Winyah Club and the Alpena Country Club.
Mr. Meden was preceded in death by his sister Marilyn. He is survived by his wife, Patty Jo Meden; son Thomas Richard Meden; daughter and son-in-law Christine and Steve Margulies; and granddaughter Kameron Margulies, all of California; brother William Meden of Alpena; and sisters Beverly Hill and Linda Bingham.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Trinity Episcopal Church.

Donald Hester, 67
SUN CITY - Donald Ray Hester, 67, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at Menifee Valley Medical Center.
Born June 2, 1933, in Kankakee, Ill., he lived in Sun City for one year. He worked for Northrup Grumman in Anaheim as a maintenance supervisor for 20 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1950 to 1952 and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Long Beach. He enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles, traveling and cooking.
Mr. Hester is survived by his wife, Marian Hester of Sun City; daughters Donna Falcon of Hesperia and Margeen Roberts of Perry, Ga.; sons Daniel Hester and John Hester, both of Sacramento, Ryan Upton of Tustin, Devlin Upton of Playa Del Rey and George Baugh of Costa Mesa; brother Bob Hester of Mission Viejo; sisters Pam Teeter of Rancho Cucamonga and Jackie Hester of Colorado; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous foster children.
A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, at Evans-Brown Mortuary. Burial will take place at Riverside National Cemetery.

Thomas Roach, 54
SAN DIEGO - Thomas "Wink" D. Roach, 54, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at UCSD Medical Center.
Born April 7, 1947, in Oklahoma, he lived in San Diego for 25 years. He served in the U.S. Army as a Green Beret during the Vietnam War and received three purple hearts, one silver star and several other medals.
Mr. Roach was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy roach and sister Shirley Allen, on June 30, 2000. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Maxine and Brian F. Burney of Poway; and numerous nieces and nephews.

ESCONDIDO - Irene Race, 84, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001.
Born Sept. 12, 1916, in Longmont, Colo., she lived in Escondido for four years. She was previously from Phoenix.
Mrs. Race was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Race, in 1996. She is survived by son David Race of Lancaster; daughters Ronelle Kantola of Salem, Ore., and Loralee Carter of Peoria, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Kenneth Ruwe
Kenneth Darwin Ruwe, loving father, brother and grandfather, died of pneumonia on March 21.
Born in Marathon, Iowa on Sept. 2, 1917, Ken spent his youth and teen years in different parts of Iowa. He came to California in the late 1930s and settled down to raise a family with his new wife, Wanda Fuller. Ken had a 28-year career with the Los Angeles County Fire Department retiring in 1976. He is survived by his daughter, Melinda Carrico of San Diego; his son Craig Ruwe of New Mexico; a sister Geneva Peterson of Hacienda Heights, another sister, Cathy Fry of Laguna and two grandchildren, Laurie and Dan Carrico.
Mary 'Mae' Smith
Mary "Mae Smith, 84, was born in Lowell, Mass., daughter of Thomas and Katherine Sherry. She is survived by husband Jim Smith and two children, Sherry Wheeler of Carlsbad and Jason Smith of Ashville, N.C. and two grandchildren Chelsea Smith of Cleveland and Tyler Wheeler of Carlsbad; sister Eilene McDonough of Dracut, Mass.
Mae was educated at Lowell Commercial College and Lowell Institute and worked as a principal interviewer for the U.S. government for several years. She and her family are former residents of Dracut, Mass., Scarboro, Maine, Hartford, Conn., Indianapolis, Ind., and Carlsbad since 1983. Mae and Jim have been members of St. Patrick's congregation for 17 years and have recently observed their 59th wedding anniversary.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Carlsbad on Tuesday, April 24.

Robert Wickliffe, 78
ESCONDIDO - Robert C. Wickliffe, 78, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at his home of complications of lymphoma.
Born May 16, 1922, in Lebanon, Ky., he lived in Escondido for 42 years. He graduated from Harvard University in 1941. He received his medical degree in 1951 from the University of Louisville Medical School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He opened his first ophthalmology practice in Kalamazoo, Mich., in 1955, before moving to Escondido in 1958. He was the first board certified ophthalmologist to establish a full time practice in town. In 1962 along with others he built the Escondido Medical Center at the corner of Ash and Pennsylvania. During his 30 years of practice in Escondido he served as the president of the Palomar Hospital medical staff in 1975 and was a member of Crippled Children Services. He retired from practicing ophthalmology in 1988. He was a member of the North County Hackers and Tennis Escondido. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf and tennis.
Mr. Wickliffe was preceded in death by his father, Thomas P Wickliffe; mother Elizabeth Wickliffe; and sister Elizabeth Ann Hamilton. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elizabeth "Libby" Wickliffe of Escondido; sons and daughters-in-law Tom and Janine Wickliffe of Vista, Steve and CJ Wickliffe of Anaconda, Mont., Jeff Wickliffe of Escondido and John Wickliffe of Escondido; brother and sister-in-law Don and Ginny Wickliffe of Escondido; eight grandchildren; nieces Sherry and Wendy Wickliffe; and nephews Charlie Wickliffe and Bob and Paine Garvie.

William Liebert, 75
OCEANSIDE - William "Billy" Edward Liebert, 75, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at Pomerado Hospital in Poway.
Born April 18, 1925, in Detroit, he lived in Oceanside for six years. He was a retired accordionist and piano player, a musical director, arranger, compose and conductor. He was a life member of the Professional Musicians Union Local 47, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, the Academy of Country Music and the Disabled American Veterans. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a pharmacist mate.
Mr. Liebert was preceded in death by his wife, Bettie Lorraine Liebert, in 1992. He is survived by son William F. Liebert of Oceanside; brother and sister-in-law Norman and Irene Liebert of Walled Lake, Mich.; sisters and brothers-in-law Geraldine and Joseph De George of Howell, Mich. and Carol and Al Orlowski of Dearborn Heights, Mich.; and grandchildren Rachael Lorraine and William Jonathon Liebert.

VISTA - Edward V. Salsido, 69, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at Tri-City Medical Center.
Born July 19, 1931, in Colton, he lived in Vista for 59 years. He retired from Camp Pendleton, in 1988. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a volunteer coach for Vista American Little League.
Mr. Salsido was preceded in death by his daughter Naomi Christine Salsido, in 1968; father Ambrose Salsido, in 1968; and sister Ruth Ervin, in 1998. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Doris Salsido of Vista; son Eddie Salsido of Vista; daughter and son-in-law Cindy and Leonard Castillo; brothers and sisters-in-law Walter and Anne Dominguez of Vista, Bernard and Mary Dominguez of Vista, John and Lupe Dominguez of El Cajon and Paul Dominguez of Old Town; nephews David Martinez of West Covina; and Mark Castillo of Vista; grandchildren Leonard, Christina and Michael Castillo; and six cousins.

LEMON GROVE - Evelyn G. Bullock, 93, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at Lemon Grove Monta Vista Lodge.
Born Aug. 31, 1907, in Los Angeles, she lived in Lemon Grove for 3 1/2 years. She was a registered nurse and retired in 1954. She was a member of Fallbrook Seventh-day Adventists Church, Fallbrook Garden Club and San Diego Zoological Society.
Mrs. Bullock was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn C. Bullock, in December 1981. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Georgia and Eugena Gilliam of Lakeside; Eleanor and Joseph Kellor of Pleasanton and Ruby and Duane Longfellow of Kingman, Ariz.; niece Penuy Irwin of Long Beach; grandchildren Helen Thomas of San Francisco, Deborah Milton of Laguna Beach, Lowery Keller of Pleasanton and Andrew Keller of Pleasanton; three great-grandchildren; and one grand-niece.

Born Aug. 13, 1970, in Escondido, she lived in Valley Center for six years. She was employed by Fox Accounting as an accountant. She enjoyed the Wild Animal Park, zoo, the beach and computers.
Mrs. Taff is survived by her husband of seven years, Brad M. Taff of Valley Center; mother Louise Brady and father Buddy Brady, both of Escondido; grandparents William and Dannie Brady of Escondido and William Griffin of Escondido; daughters Paige and Lauren Taff of Valley Center; brother Jason Brady of Escondido; sister and brother-in-law Nicole and Ryan Strathearn of Long Beach.

Gwen Klepin, 75
RAMONA - Gwen M. Klepin, 75, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at Palomar Hospital in Escondido.
Born Aug. 26, 1925, in Cicero, Ill., she lived in Ramona for 30 years and in San Diego for 18 years before moving to Ramona. She had been a bookkeeper for 30 years. She raised greyhound dogs and enjoyed dog racing, crossword puzzles, cross stitching and ceramics.
Mrs. Klepin is survived by her husband of 57 years, Leon Klepin of Ramona; sons Dennis Klepin of Chula Vista, Phillip Klepin of San Diego, Keith Klepin of Lakeside and Leon Klepin Jr. of San Bernardino; daughters Diane Lockwood and Yvette Klepin, both of Ramona; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
