Oliver W. Grow, 90

CARLSBAD - Oliver W. Grow, 90, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, in Escondido of a stroke and pneumonia.
Born Oct. 24, 1910, in Roxborough, Pa., he lived in Carlsbad for nine years.
He retired in 1970 as a mechanical engineer. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 180th Infantry, 45th Division. He commanded a combat battalion in France and Germany. He was awarded two Purple Hearts for injuries and two Bronze Stars for exemplary conduct in ground combat in 1945. The medal he received for the European Theater has stars for five combat operations. He retired as a major.
He was a member of the Retired Officers Association and Sons of the American Revolution He was a past state adjutant of the Military Order of the World Wars and a past president of the Kiwanis Club in La Habra. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Encinitas.
Mr. Grow was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Grow, in 1993.
He is survived by his sister-in-law Mary Salisbury of Klamath Falls, Ore.; nieces and nephews Sheila and Paul Kinder of Escondido, Valerie Paulson of Klamath Falls, Ore., and William B. Salisbury III of Cincinnati.
Interment will take place at 1 p.m. Friday, April 27, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside with the Rev. William Harmon of Bethlehem Lutheran Church officiating.
The family suggests memorial donations to Oliver W. Grow Memorial Fund, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 925 Balour Drive, Encinitas, CA 92024.
Eternal Hills Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Patty Loveland, 95
CARLSBAD - Patty B. Loveland, 95, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at her home.
Born March 17, 1906, in Basin, Wyo., she lived in Carlsbad for six years. She was a member of the Carlsbad Community Church. She was a handicapped training supervisor at the Helping Hand of Goodwill in Kansas City, Mo., for 13 years before retiring at the age of 77. She had been active in the Trinity Methodist Church in Kansas City.
Mrs. Loveland was preceded in death by her father Jacob Sowers; mother Minnie Haynes Sowers; sisters Margaret S. Joy and Gurtrude Thompson; brother Guy Sowers. She is survived by her son, Robert Briggs of Carlsbad; grandchildren Rob Briggs, Lisa Skinner, of Walnut Creek and Randy Briggs of San Francisco; and two great-grandchildren.
No formal services are planned. A family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Clayton Munyer, 78

ESCONDIDO - Clayton Carl Munyer, 78, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at his home.
Born Feb. 3, 1923, in Hibbing, Minn., he lived in Escondido for 28 years.
He was an auto technician with Lange & Runkel Chevrolet for 50 years. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a sergeant during World War II.
Mr. Munyer is survived by his wife of 20 years, Kathleen A. Munyer, of Escondido; sons Brett Kirkpatrick of Camarillo and Richard Munyer of St. Louis, Mo.; daughters Kathy Cushing of Andover, N.Y., Barbara Ziegenfuss of Sonora, Kim Clouse of Santa Rosa and Christy Munyer of St. Louis, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Community Reform Church with the Rev. John Bales officiating. Inurnment with military honors will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego.
The family suggests memorial donations to Vitas Hospice, 8880 Rio San Diego Drive, San Diego, CA 92108.

Stanley Savage, 75

RAMONA - Stanley Frederick Savage, 75, died Thursday, April 19, 2001.
Born Oct. 18, 1925, in Brewer, Maine, he lived in Ramona for five months. He lived in Pismo Beach previously and Los Banos for more than 30 years. He served in World War II in Navy Aviation, stationed in the South Pacific. He received his pilot's license in the 1960s. He retired from Pacific Telephone after working for 30 years.
Mr. Savage is survived by his wife of almost 51 years, Mary Savage of Ramona; daughters and sons-in-law Annette and Rev. Dewayne Williams of Ramona and Linda and Will Wakeling of San Clemente; son and daughter-in-law Ken and Marylou Savage of Clovis; sisters Marguerite Worthington of Texas and Donna Williamson of Maine; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Viewing is scheduled from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at Bonham Bros. & Lee Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 30, at Bonham Bros. & Lee Ramona Chapel with his son-in-law the Rev. Dewayne Williams of Main Street Church of Ramona officiating. Graveside services will follow at Nuevo Memory Gardens.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Main Street Church, 825 Main St., Ramona, CA 92065.

Clarene Cobb, 70
FALLBROOK - Clarene Cobb, 70, died Monday, April 23, 2001, at her home.
Born June 13, 1930, in Pomona, she lived in Fallbrook for 11 years.
Mrs. Cobb was preceded in death by her husband, Norman, in 1989. She is survived by her daughters, Lynda Walsh, Janice Chow and Carol Trebbe, all of Fallbrook and Nancy Holt of Newport, Ore.; and eight grandchildren.
Private services were held. Neptune Society handled the arrangements.
The family suggests memorial donations in her name to one of the youth organizations her grandchildren were involved in, Fallbrook High School JV Water Polo, JV Baseball, Fallbrook Youth Baseball, or Potter JHS Dragster Team.

Fred Stivers Jr., 77

CARLSBAD - Colonel Fred Stivers Jr. 77, U.S. Army Signal Corps, Retired, died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at his home of lung cancer.
He was born in 1924, in Boise, Idaho. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and for 34 years after. He served with General Marshall's peace mission in India and China after the war. He served seven years with the Department of the Army Strategic Communications in the Pentagon in Washington, DC, followed by duty in Stuttgart W. Germany commanding the 32 Signal Battalion. He commanded the 2nd Signal Group in Vietnam. He was the first commander of STRAT-COM's Communication and Electronics Engineering Installation Agency - Pacific in Hawaii and Okinawa as well as in Europe in Mannheim, W. Germany.
He was a graduate of the Command and General Staff College, the National War College and the University of Maryland. He received a master's degree in history form California State University Fullerton. After retirement he was associated with Computer Sciences Corp in Red Bank, N.J. and with Merdan Group in Red Bank and San Diego.
Mr. Stivers is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughter Alison Lewis of Marengo, Ill.; sons Eric of Meridian, Idaho and Patrick of Phoenix; brother Hal of Richland, Wash.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, April 30, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.

Wilma Femmer, 85
LAKE SAN MARCOS - Wilma May Femmer, 85, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, of heart failure.
Born Jan. 5, 1916, in Scott, Kan., she lived in Silverado Senior Living. She had lived in Lake San Marcos for 20 years. She was a graduate of Riverside High School. She had lived in Culver City for 35 years where she was active in the Eastern Star and PTA. She catered for Stern's Steak House before retiring in 1978.
Mrs. Femmer is survived by her husband, Melvin W. Femmer of Lake San Marcos; son Phillip Gurian of New Orleans; stepson Donald Gregory Femmer of Tucson, Ariz.; stepdaughter Sharon Elle Femmer of Escondido; sister LaVerne Hawse of San Marcos; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 4 p.m. today, April 26, at United Church of Christ of Lake San Marcos.

Marjorie Hanson, 83
RENO, Nev. - Marjorie Lewis Hanson, 83, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at Washoe Village at South Meadows in Reno.
Born April 17, 1917, in Los Angeles, she attended the University of California at Davis. She lived in Escondido for 51 years where she was a travel agent and agency owner for many years. She had lived in Reno for the past seven years.
Mrs. Hanson was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Hanson, in May 1999.
She is survived by her son, John V. Hanson of Reno; daughter Caroline Blackburn of Canton, Texas; and granddaughter Wendy Hanson of Carson City, Nev.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Escondido Humane Society Building Fund, 3000 Las Palmas Ave., Escondido, CA 92027 or the Circle of Life Hospice of Reno, 1575 Delucchi Lane, Suite 214, Reno, NV 89502.

Anna Lavoie, 79
OCEANSIDE - Anna E. Lavoie, 79, died Saturday, April 21, 2001 in Oceanside.
Born August 5, 1922 in Cambridge, Mass., she lived in Oceanside for eight years. She retired from National Plastics Corp., where she was employed as a bookkeeper.
She was a member of St. Anne's Women's Guild, San Luis Rey parish and Secretary to the Board at Laguna Vista Mobile Home Park.
Mrs. Lavoie is survived by her husband of 55 years, Arthur R. Lavoie of Oceanside son Robert Lavoie of Los Angeles; daughters Carol Lavoie and Suzanne Davis of Oceanside; sisters Margaret Quinn of Oceanside and Elaine Daddona of Waterbury; and grandson Damon C. Davis.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 27, at the Mission San Luis Rey Parish Chapel.
Accu-care Cremation Center is handling the arrangements.

Edmund Kisiel, 88
VISTA - Edmund Kisiel, 88, died Monday, April 23, 2001, at Brighton Gardens Convalescent Facility.
Born Sept. 1, 1912, in Cleveland, he lived in Vista for 16 years. He was retired from the Cleveland Police Department where he was a superintendent of communications.
Mr. Kisiel was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Gregg, in 1999.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen E. Kisiel of Vista; daughter Phyllis Anderson of Vista; brother and sister-in-law Chester and Casey Kisiel of Cleveland; sisters Helen Mowinski of Cleveland and Angeline Rodgers of Hawaii; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. with rosary recited from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at Eternal Hills Mortuary.
A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, April 30, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with the Rev. Patrick Mulcahy officiating.
Inurnment will be held at a later date and time at Mission San Luis Rey. A private cremation is planned.

Marilyn Felker, 67
FALLBROOK - Marilyn Lorene Felker, 67, died Thursday, April 19, 2001.
Born Aug. 11, 1933, in Sibley, Iowa, she lived in Fallbrook for 28 years. She was a homemaker for more than 50 years.
Mrs. Felker was preceded in death by her husband, Richard G. Felker Sr., in 2001.
She is survived by her stepson, Richard G. Felker Jr. of Alabama; daughters and sons-in-law Brandi and Guy Cordova of Brownsville, Ore., Lisa and Steven Minniear of Burton, Mich.; stepdaughter Denise Erickson of Roseburg, Ore.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, at Fallbrook Masonic Cemetery with the Rev. Don Starkey officiating.
The family suggests memorial donations to Fallbrook Hospice, 624 E. Elder St., Fallbrook, CA 92028.

Gerard Cozette, 80

SAN DIEGO - Gerard Johnson Cozette, 80, died Monday, April 16, 2001 at Sharp Memorial Hospital.
Born July 19, 1920, in Omaha, Neb., he retired after 42 years as an industrial engineer for Western Electric. He also served as an instructor-pilot in the U.S. Air Force during World War II
Mr. Cozette was preceded in death by his parents Gerard G. and Margaret J. Cozette.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Steven G. and Cheryl Cozette of Columbia, Miss., and James M. and Gail Cozette of Omaha, Neb.; brother and sister-in-law Bernard L. and Adrienne Cozette of Naples, Fla.; sister and brother-in-law Greta L. and Paul Stancik of San Diego; and granddaughter Jennifer Cozette of Omaha, Neb.
A private service and interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Omaha, Neb. is planned.
The arrangements are being handled by Alhiser-Comer Mortuary.

Carl Josephson, 89

OCEANSIDE - Carl Arnold Josephson, 89, died Monday, April 23, 2001, at Tri-City Medical Center.
Born April 13, 1912 in Chicago, he was a Production Control Printer for R. R. Donnelley & Sons Co. for 42 years.
He was a World War II Army veteran, a 29-year member of the Vista Plus Club and a volunteer at the Vista Courthouse. He served a three -year term on the Vista Crime Commission, and was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Vista.
Mr. Josephson was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Marie Josephson, who died in 1998.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Kent Alan and Cheryl Josephson of Crete, Ill.; brother Alvin Josephson of Glen Ellyn, Ill., grandchildren Kristen Salinas of Shorerville, Ind., and Lauren Stockoe of Midlothian, Va.; and one great-grandchild.
A visitation was held on Wednesday, April 25. A memorial a service will be held at 10 a.m. today, April 26 at Allen Brothers Mortuary. A private burial will follow.

Charles Gubser, 69
FALLBROOK - Charles S. Gubser, 69, died Wednesday, April 18, 2001.
Born Oct. 26, 1931, in Glendale, he was self-employed in desk top graphics.
Mr. Gubser was preceded in death by his daughter, Cherie Lynn Gubser, in 1988.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Orolie Gubser of Fallbrook; son Charles T. Gubser of Greenville, S.C.; brother and sister-in-law Raymond and Fran Gubser of New Mexico; sisters and brothers-in-law Bobbie and Mark Golding of Utah and Pam and Mike Geary of Las Vegas.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 23, at Christ the King Lutheran Church of Fallbrook. A private cremation is planned.

Geraldine Kopper, 77

POWAY - Geraldine Frances Kopper, 77, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Villa Monte Vista.
Born Feb. 13, 1924, in Chicago, she worked as a legal secretary for the University of Chicago.
Mrs. Kopper is survived by her husband, Selwyn Kopper of Rancho Bernardo.
A private cremation and service is planned.
The family suggests memorial donations to the San Diego Zoo, Park Avenue, Balboa Park, San Diego, CA 92134 or to the Lincoln Park Zoo, 2200 North Cannon Drive, Chicago, IL.
