Virginia Spear Wilkinson
"Gina" passed away peacefully at her home on April 26, 2001, after a long illness with cancer.
She was born in Los Angeles on July 19, 1929, to Albion Whitney and Virginia Spear, an old California family. She was a daughter-in-law of Mary Vail Wilkinson, the daughter of Walter Lennox Vail, who founded the Vail Ranch, what is now Rancho California.
Virginia lived in Temecula since 1957. She was an artist who studied at Otis Art Institute and taught painting until shortly before her death. She was a devoted and caring wife and mother who always made time for her children and family. She gladly donated her time and abilities to her charities and friends. The family will remember her for her strength of character, her caring nature, love of travel and being a "mom" to everyone.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 44 years, James Vail "Sandy" Wilkinson; her children, Anne Nanni of Spokane, Wash.; Whitney Wilkinson of San Diego; Mary Eliza Schreckenberger of Carmel; her six grandchildren; and her brother Thomas A. Spear of Escondido.
No services will be held. Any memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Valleys, PO Box 686, Sun City, CA 92586, or a charity of choice.

Virginia Spear Wilkinson

Penny East, 42
Penny Louise East of Fallbrook passed away on Jan. 24, 2001.
She was preceded in death by her brother Lowell East.
Ms. East is survived by her mother; Beverly J. Diaz; father Ronald East; three sons, Shane, Eric and Jeremy; two brothers; and two sisters; and her grandfather, Lloyd East.
Cremation has been completed.
Burial services will be held at 10 a.m. at the Fallbrook Masonic Cemetery on Friday, May 4, with the Bishop of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints presiding.
Arrangements are being handled by Berry Bell & Hall Mortuary of Fallbrook.

William Brownlee II, 23
LOS ANGELES - William James Brownlee II, 23, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001.
Mr. Brownlee was born in Glendale and raised in Elfin Forest. He was a heavy equipment technician and had recently moved to Los Angeles.
Mr. Brownlee is survived by his father, William Brownlee I of San Dimas, mother Colleen Taggart of Elfin forest; grandmother Betty Brownlee of Los Angeles; sisters Meghan Haff of Elfin Forest and Cara Brownlee of Burbank; brothers Corey Brownlee of Burbank and Andrew Taggart of Elfin Forest; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 30, at Encinitas Chapel in Encinitas. Funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. May 1, at Encinitas Chapel. Cremation and private inurnment is planned.
El Camino Memorial/ Encinitas Chapel is handling arrangements.

Sarah Mayswinkle, 80
OCEANSIDE - Sarah "Sally" Mayswinkle, 80, died Friday, April 20, 2001, of a massive stroke.
Born March 7, 1921, in Dearborn, Mich., she lived in Oceanside for 10 years. She retired on April 1, 1983, from Veteran's Administration. She was a medical social worker for the Red Cross in Japan at a military hospital during the Korean War.
Mrs. Mayswinkle is survived by her husband of 41 years, Dale Mayswinkle of Oceanside; and sisters Gerry Flemming of Farmington, Mich., and Alice Langschied of Fort Wayne, Ind.
A private cremation is planned.
Telophase Cremation Society is handling arrangements.

George Plocic, 80
ESCONDIDO - George S. Plocic, 80, died Monday, April 2, 2001, at his home of natural causes.
Born Oct. 22, 1920, in Yugoslavia, he lived in Escondido for 45 years. He was a commercial egg rancher and real estate broker. He retired in June 1986. He was an aviation metal smith in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He enjoyed fishing, and competitive archery.
Mr. Plocic was preceded in death by his son, James Plocic, on Nov. 21, 1979. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Raylene Plocic of Escondido; stepson Randy Treadway of Escondido; daughter Patricia Kreh of Philadelphia, Pa.; stepdaughter Torrie Magee of Escondido; brother and sister-in-law Joseph and Helen Plocich of Glendale; and seven grandchildren.
A private cremation is planned.
The family suggests memorial donations to the Elizabeth Hospice, 150 W. Crest St., Escondido, CA 92025.

Blanche Ortiz, 93
SAN FRANCISCO - Blanche S. Ortiz, 93, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, in San Diego.
Born May 19, 1907, in Nicaragua, she lived in San Francisco for 53 years. She was a seamstress.
Mrs. Ortiz is survived by her sons, Frank J. Ortiz of Gulf Shores, Ala., and John L. Ortiz of Fallbrook; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
No services will be held at the request of the deceased. A private cremation is planned.
Telophase Cremation Society in San Marcos is handling arrangements.

Fallbrook - Penny Louise East of Fallbrook passed away on Jan. 24, 2001.
She was preceded in death by her brother Lowell East.

John Rosas, 81
CARLSBAD - John E. Rosas, 81, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Tri-City Medical Center.
Born Oct. 18, 1919, in New Mexico, he lived in Carlsbad for 24 years. He was the owner and operator of a glass glazing company and retired in 1990. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a sergeant. He was a member of the Oceanside Elks Lodge.
Mr. Rosas is survived by his sons Patrick Rosas of Fullerton and Michael Rosas of New York City; daughters Penny LaGasse of San Jose, Judy Davidson of Oceanside, Jonnie Gilardi of Carlsbad and Christine Mance of Canyon Lake; 12 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma.

Robert Courtney, 35
SUN CITY - Robert Darell Courtney, 35, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at his home of cancer.
Born Jan. 9, 1966, in Glendale, he lived in Sun City for six months and lived in San Diego previously. He attended Rio Seco Elementary in Santee and Grossmont High School in La Mesa. He worked for Vons supermarket in San Diego for 15 years. He was involved in Little League baseball, Pop Warner football and youth basketball. He also enjoyed playing golf. He was a three time All-Star in baseball.
Mr. Courtney is survived by his parents, Jene and Shirley; daughters Brandi, Brianna, Bradie and Brooke; brother Dale; sisters Nancy Ricondo and Susan Bradley, all of San Diego; grandmothers Joy Jones and Monette Courtney; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; and girlfriend Creva Nunez.
Visitation is scheduled from 10:30 to 11 a.m. and memorial service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, at Temecula Valley House of Praise. Interment icon will be at Menifee Valley Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Temecula Valley House of Praise Building Fund in his memory.

Manuela Padilla, 59
ESCONDIDO - Manuela Lopez Padilla, 59, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, in Escondido.
Born April 14, 1941, in Gonzalez, she lived in Escondido. She was a homemaker for 20 years.
Mrs. Padilla is survived by her daughters, Franchesca Campos of Oceanside, Joann Orozco of Vista and Jeanette Padilla of San Diego; son-in-law Gregorio Salazar of Oceanside; grandchildren Desiree Perez, Sergio Orozco, David Orozco, Nathan Orozco and Annika Orozco, all of Vista, and Gregory Salazar, Tohana Ramirez and Nanette Bass, all of Oceanside; and great-grandchild Kahleeq Bass of Oceanside.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. today, July 31, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary, with the Rev. Malcolm Smith officiating. A Mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at San Luis Rey Mission Church. Burial will take place at San Luis Rey Cemetery.

Melna Green, 87
SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Melna Dial Green, 87, died Saturday, July 29, 2000, at her home.
Born May 28, 1913, in Uniontown, Ala., she lived in Spartanburg and had lived in Pensacola, Fla. She was a secretary for the Naval Intelligence Service before retiring and a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Lillian, Ala., where she taught Sunday school for many years.
Mrs. Green is survived by her sons, Charles T. Green of Oceanside and Alan E. Green of Spartanburg; grandchildren David Green and Johnathan Green, both of Spartanburg, and Kelly Green and Kevin Green, both of Maui, Hawaii; and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held and burial will take place in Pensacola.

John Allen, 77
TOPEKA, Kan. - John Wesley Allen, 77, died Thursday, July 27, 2000, at a hospital in Topeka.
Born March 17, 1923, in Augusta, Kan., he lived in Nebraska, Idaho, Washington, Montana and Fallbrook. He worked as a cowboy and stockman for the Old Union Stockyards in Spokane, Wash., for 20 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fallbrook.
Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Laura M. Eveland Allen, on Sept. 25, 1997. He is survived by his daughters, Bertha Nagin of Woodlynne, N.J., and Gladys Allen of Topeka; son Dale Allen of North Port, Wash.; sisters Nellie Eveland and Martha Allen, both of Lewiston, Idaho and Audry Lund of Spokane; brothers Joe Allen of Hope, Idaho, Dick Allen of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, and Walt Allen of Oregon; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
No service will be held in Topeka. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Fallbrook. Interment icon will take place at Fallbrook Masonic Cemetery.

Claudine Rowell, 78
ESCONDIDO - Claudine Marie Rowell, 78, died Thursday, July 27, 2000, in Escondido.
Born Sept. 24, 1921, in Corona, she lived in Escondido for 67 years. She was a bookkeeper/secretary and served as past president of the American Legion Post 149. She was a member of Emmanuel Faith Community Church and loved crafts, gardening, cooking and reading.
Mrs. Rowell was preceded in death by her sons, Ron Timm, in 1975, and Curtis Rowell, in 1975; and daughter Ann Forill, in 1989. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, G. Curtis Rowell of Escondido; daughter-in-law Barbara Rowell of San Marcos; daughters and sons-in-law Kay and Joe Serrano of San Marcos, Karen Freiberg of Boise, Idaho, and Kathy and Bill Corbett of Chandler, Ariz.; 23 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary, with the Rev. Richard Williams and Joe Serrano officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park.
The family suggests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society, 12405 Rancho Bernardo Road, Suite 100, San Diego, CA 92128.

Larry Shoemaker, 61
RANCHO BERNARDO - Larry R. Shoemaker, 61, died Friday, July 28, 2000, in
Carmel Mountain.
Born Sept. 28, 1938, in Emmaus, Pa., he lived in Rancho Bernardo for 12 years and in San Diego County for 35 years. He was a self-employed electrician and former owner of Pomerado Electric. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1965, including time in Vietnam. He was an electrician aboard nuclear-powered submarine, including the USS Angler, USS Proteus and USS Bacuna. He was a member of the U.S. Submarine Vets and the Poway Stamp Club.
Mr. Shoemaker is survived by his mother and father, Thelma and Stanley Shoemaker of Escondido; daughters Sandra Roberts and Sheryl Shoemaker, both of Escondido; brothers Daniel Shoemaker of San Diego and Stanley H. Shoemaker of Escondido; sister Terole Carmack of Escondido; and four grandchildren.
A private Interment will take place at Greenwood Memorial Park in San Diego.

Jennie Farmer (Arviso), 76
ESCONDIDO - Jennie Elen Farmer (Arviso), 76, died Friday, July 21, 2000, in Escondido.
Born Sept. 8, 1923, in Rock Springs, Wyo., she lived in Escondido for 28 years. She was a tailor of men's clothing before retiring in 1984.
Mrs. Farmer was preceded in death by her husband, John O. Arviso, in 1968. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Ray and Linda Arviso of El Centro, David Arviso of Escondido and Frank and Sherry Arviso of Wildwood, Mo.; daughters and sons-in-law Mary and Larry Vigne of Brentwood and Ada and Jerry Isbell of El Centro; brother and sister-in-law Joe and Connie Sisneros of Lake Elsinore; sister Joanne Bonsell of Eureka, Nev.; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at the Escondido Seventh-day Adventist Church. A private cremation is planned.
The family suggests memorial donations to the American Diabetes Association, 225 Broadway, Suite 310, San Diego, CA 92101.
