POWAY - Russell Hopkins, 84, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999.
Born May 29, 1915, in Maryland, he lived in Poway. He was a campus police officer for Mt. Holyoke College and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1949 to 1956. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Poway.
Mr. Hopkins is survived by his wife, Margaret P. Hopkins of Poway; son Paul Hopkins of South Hadley, Mass.; daughters Susan Hopkins of San Diego, Carol Hopkins of Poway and Janice Showers of Ramona; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A private interment will take place at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma.

OCEANSIDE - Barbara A. Carlier, 42, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, in La Jolla.
Born July 14, 1957, in Green Bay, Wis., she lived in San Diego County for 20 years. She was a medical records supervisor at Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital for 19 years, a member of the Valley Bible Church in San Marcos and a secretary of AWANA.
Mrs. Carlier is survived by her husband of 10 years, James W. Carlier of Oceanside; mother Shirley Leurquin of Connellsville, Pa.; sons Jimmy Carlier and Joey Carlier, both of Oceanside; brothers Francis Leurquin of Enid, Okla., Joseph Leurquin of Connellsville and Duane Leurquin of Redwing, Minn.; and sisters Michelle Channon and Lisa Vidrio, both of Houston, and Charlene Astorga of Tracy.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at Allen Brothers Mortuary, San Marcos Chapel. A graveside service with interment will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park, with the Rev. Bill Ferrel officiating. A memorial service is scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at Palomar Christian Church in San Marcos, with the Rev. Ferrel officiating. A reception will follow.

OCEANSIDE - Louis Paul Decuir, 77, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, in Escondido.
Born June 29, 1922, in Louisiana, he lived in Oceanside for six years. He worked for McDonnell Douglas Aerospace and served in the military during World War II.
Mr. Decuir is survived by his sons, John Decuir of Salinas and Lawrence Decuir of Solana Beach; two brothers; two sisters; and four grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Tuesday, Dec. 28, in Las Vegas. Burial followed at Palm Valley Memorial Park in Las Vegas.

ENCINITAS - Curtis Joseph Mettling, 75, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, in Encinitas.
Born July 9, 1924, in Minneapolis, he lived in Encinitas for three years. He was a Realtor and general contractor throughout California for more than 30 years.
Mr. Mettling is survived by his wife of 50 years, Norma Mettling; son Curtis Glenn Mettling of Leucadia; daughters Holly Hamilton of Castroville and Linda Mettling of Carlsbad; twin sister Carol Risk of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and grandchildren Jennifer McMenamin, Kyle Mettling and Cory Mettling.

ESCONDIDO - Evelyn C. Sizemore, 72, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at Palomar Medical Center.
Born June 11, 1927, in Tangier, Okla., she lived in Escondido for nine years. She was a purchasing agent for Teledyne-Ryan Aerospace, retiring in 1991.
Mrs. Sizemore was preceded in death by her husband of 22 years, Joseph Charles Sizemore, in 1978. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Mary Lytle of Vista and James and Judy Lytle of San Marcos; brother Ray Coombes of San Rafael; sister Bea Grice of Solana Beach; grandchildren Jeremy Lytle, January Chavez, Donald, Samantha, Daniel, Crystel and Daryan Lytle; and great-grandchildren Jacey and Jenna Lytle and Justice Chavez.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today, Jan. 8, at Mobile Park West Clubhouse in Escondido, with the Rev. Patricia Durham officiating. A private cremation is planned and scattering of cremains at sea off the coast of Point Loma will take place at a later date.

Frank Herman, 84
CARLSBAD - Frank Joseph "Skipper Frank" Herman, 84, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, of pneumonia, at Scripps Hospital in La Jolla.
Born Nov. 16, 1916, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., he lived in Carlsbad for 16 years. He worked for television stations KFMB and KTLA, playing the role of Skipper Frank in the 1950s and 1960s, and was a founding member of the Magic Castle in Hollywood. He was manager of the Cable TV division for Teleprompter Corporation and for Foote, Cone and Belding.
Mr. Herman is survived by his wife of 55 years, Georgina Herman of Carlsbad; mother Clara Burr of Atlanta; father Frank Joseph Herman Sr. of Atlanta; sons Wes Herman of Santa Barbara, Bruce Herman of Cabo San Lucas, Vince Herman of Inglewood and Greg Herman of Carlsbad; and grandchildren Jeremey, Chiarra, Andy, Matt, Amy, Cole and Riley.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9, at Eternal Hills Chapel.

SAN MARCOS - Marie Catherine Miller-Hause, 90, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at a local convalescent home.
Born April 5, 1909, in Montello, Wis., she lived in San Marcos for 13 years. She was the owner/operator of Mother's Restaurant in Madison, Wis., for 25 years and was a member of Joslyn Senior Center in San Marcos.
Mrs. Miller-Hause was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lewis Hause, on Oct. 17, 1999; and her daughter, Marjorie Marie Shomberg, on May 17, 1998. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Catherine Ann and Paul Fields of Lake San Marcos and Donna Mae and Ernie Sansone of Tucson, Ariz.; niece and nephew Norma Jean and Peter Leahy of Portage, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, at St. Mark's Catholic Church in San Marcos, with the Rev. Burt Boudoin officiating. A private cremation is planned and inurnment will take place at Desert Memorial Park in Cathedral City.

ENCINITAS - Lillian O'Connell, 99, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, at Scripps Convalescent Hospital in Encinitas.
Born May 9, 1900, in Berkeley, she lived in Oakland and Orinda for 70 years, in Sun City and Riverside for 18 years and in Carlsbad and Encinitas for 11 years.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Providence Hospital Auxiliary, serving as president.
Mrs. O'Connell is survived by her son, Lloyd O'Connell of Encinitas; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at St. John's Catholic Church in Encinitas. Interment
will take place at Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Hayward.

RANCHO BERNARDO - Margaret S. Wright, 93, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, of congestive heart faillure, at Remington Club Assisted Living.
Born Jan. 26, 1906, in Denver, she lived in Rancho Bernardo for 29 years. She was a journalist for the Denver Post/Rocky Mountain News. She was a member of the Rancho Bernardo Community Church and former president of the College Women's Club, a member of the Visiting Nurses Association and Seven Oaks organizations.
Mrs. Wright was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Fred Alexander Wright, in 1990. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Dr. Fred S. and Carol Wright of Guilford, Conn.; daughter and son-in-law Nancy Wright and Ralph Lund of Bonita Springs, Fla.; sister Harriette Smith Brotherhood of Belmont; grandchildren David G. Lund of Ohio, Wendy L. Warner of Mich., and Catherine M. Wright of Mass.; and great-grandchildren Andrew, Margaret and Peter Lund and Alyssa and Amanda Warner.

Born Nov. 8, 1907, in Des Moines, Iowa, she lived in Carlsbad for 26 years. She was a secretary for Waite Phillips Petroleum in Los Angeles.
Mrs. Ginger was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Ginger, in 1974. She is survived by her son, John B. Ginger of Fallbrook; one grandchild; one nephew; and one niece.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at Carlsbad by the Sea Retirement Home Chapel, with Chaplain Phillip R. Deming officiating. Burial will take place at Prairie View Cemetery in Paullina, Iowa, at a time to be determined.

ESCONDIDO - Jerome H. "Jerry" Davis, 80, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, of pneumonia, at Valle Vista Convalescent Home.
Born Feb. 26, 1919, in Warrensburg, Mo., he lived in Escondido for 28 years. He worked for Lloyd's Furniture in San Diego for 21 years and was a member of Emmanuel Faith Community Church. He served in the U.S. Navy.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret Davis of Escondido; daughter Marica McMicken of New Harmony, Utah; and grandchildren marica McMicken and Michael McMicken.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 10, at Emmanuel Faith Community Church, with the Rev. Joe Silvey officiating.

VISTA - Anne Diner Schultz, 89, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at her home in Vista.
Born Aug. 2, 1910, in Winnepeg, Manitoba, Canada, she lived in Vista for 26 years. She was a medical secretary for Dr. Cole for 40 years.
Mrs. Schultz was preceded in death by her daughter, Audrey Schultz, in 1947. She is survived by her husband, Harold Schultz of Vista; son Denny L. Schultz, DDS, of Kalispell, Mont.; sisters Clara Hennell of Escondido and Trina Gerson of Lawndale; and three grandsons.
No formal service is scheduled. A private family cremation with scattering of cremains at sea is planned.

OCEANSIDE - Clifford A. Letourneau, 73, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, of heart failure, at Scripps Hospital in Encinitas.
Born July 8, 1926, in Monterey Park, he lived in Oceanside for 24 years. He was an operating engineer from 1942 to 1974 and an Oceanside business owner from 1975 to 1987. He served in the U.S. Navy as an electrician 3rd class and was a member of St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Oceanside, the Alhambras and Las Ramadas Camper Club.
Mr. Letourneau is survived by his wife of 37 years, Consuelo Letourneau of Oceanside; son Stephen Letourneau of Oceanside; daughters Liza McPhee of Santa Fe, N.M., and Margaret Rye, Patricia Brewster and Jeanette Mejia, all of Oceanside; brother Ray Letourneau of Hesperia; and grandchildren Amber Brewster, Vincent Rye, Vanessa Mejia and Rosie Mejia.

Born Nov. 6, 1909, in Omaha, Neb., she lived in San Diego County for 39 years. She was a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service for 10 years and served as a Wave in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Smith. She is survived by her stepdaughter, Lynette Petrie of Kenmore, Wash.; and brother and sister-in-law Rober and Dorothy Snyder of Lake Havasu, Ariz.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at the First Presbyterian Church of Oceanside, with the Rev. William Enns officiating. A private entombment will take place at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

Born Feb. 17, 1907, in Schuyler, N.Y., she lived in Escondido for 25 years. She was a teacher before retiring and a member of the United Methodist Women.
Mrs. Blauvelt is survived by two granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.

VISTA - Benjamin Nicholas Segovia, 87, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at his home.
Born Sept. 10, 1912, in Durango, Mexico, he lived in Vista for 49 years. He worked for San Diego Concrete before retiring and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Mr. Segovia is survived by his wife of 45 years, Antonia Segovia of Vista; son Richard Nieves; daughters Loraine Goggia, Anna Rodigo and Betty Shoup; sisters Mary Martinez and Ana Rauirez; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
