PHOENIX - Jason Anthony Marcotte-Swanson, 19, died Sunday, July 30, 2000, in an automobile accident in Phoenix.
Born March 6, 1981, he graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1999 and was a surfer. He was an employee of Pacific Sales and a student at Mira Costa College.
Mr. Marcotte-Swanson is survived by his parents, Shelly and Steve Marcotte of Carlsbad; brother Lucien Hardy III of Vista; and sister Tanessa Marcotte of Carlsbad.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today, Aug. 3, at North Costa Church on Melrose Drive in Vista. A memorial service is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, at Ponto Beach in Carlsbad, south of Carlsbad State beach. His ashes will be scattered at sea at sunset Friday.

Ralph Pederson, 83
SUN CITY - Ralph A. Pederson, 83, died Thursday, July 27, 2000, at his home.
Born July 2, 1917, in Moorhead, Minn., he lived in Sun City for 18 years. He earned an associate of arts degree from the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1940, and was a dispatcher with Public Service of New Jersey for 25 years before retiring. He served in the Army Reserves as a lieutenant colonel from 1942 to 1977 and was a member of the Lawn Bowlers Club, Bridge Club, Retired Officers Club and St. Vincent Church in Sun City.
Mr. Pederson was preceded in death by his wife, Clare Pederson. He is survived by his son, Dr. Richard T. Pederson of Los Alamitas; and sisters Marjorie Ehrlich and Charlotte Pederson.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. today, Aug. 3, at Evans Brown Sun City Chapel. Burial will follow at 11:15 a.m. at Riverside National Cemetery, Staging Area 2.

CANYON LAKE - Ola P. Greenwald, 88, died Monday, July 31, 2000, at Corona Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 27, 1911, in Coweta, Okla., she lived in Canyon Lake. She was a retail clerk for Saks Fifth Avenue in New York for 10 years and enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading and traveling.
Mrs. Greenwald is survived by her daughter, Catherine Hollingsworth of Canyon Lake; and one grandchild.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 3, at Evans Brown Sun City Mortuary. A funeral service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, at the mortuary. Burial will take place at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills.

FALLBROOK - Josephine Marie Schaeffer, 88, died Monday, July 31, 2000, in San Marcos.
Born May 31, 1912, in Elgin, Ill., she lived in Fallbrook for 40 years. She owned Schaeffer's Nursery in Fallbrook for 54 years and was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fallbrook, past member of St. Peter's Ladies Altar Society and past member of the Fallbrook Garden Club.
Mrs. Schaeffer was preceded in death by her husband, Max Schaeffer, in 1972. She is survived by her sons, Roland Schaeffer of Fallbrook and Max Schaeffer of Carlsbad; daughter Margaret Lawson of Arcadia; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today, Aug. 3, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fallbrook. Burial will follow at Fallbrook Masonic Cemetery.

ESCONDIDO - Ethel Ziphora Lewis, 88, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, in Escondido.
Born April 4, 1912, in Boyd, Texas, she lived in Escondido and San Marcos since 1942. She was a homemaker and a member of Emmanuel Faith Community Church. She loved gardening, sewing, fishing and the outdoors.
Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Edwin Lewis, in 1994. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Robert Halstead of Escondido; brother Thelbert Burns of Porterville; sister Esther Tackett of Bakersfield; grandchildren Gary, Cheryl, Steve and Lisa; and great-grandchildren Gene and Robyn.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana, with the Rev. Richard Williams officiating.

Born Oct. 13, 1931, in Pittsburgh, she lived in Sun City and had lived in Escondido for 27 years. She was a sales clerk for Walker Scott department store for 12 years.
Mrs. Kent is survived by her husband of 35 years, George R. Kent of Sun City; brother Earl Leita of Wexford, Pa.; sister Isa V. Leita of Pittsburgh; nieces Bobbye Lussier of San Diego and Lucy Cronin of Castro Valley; and great-nephews Brian Lussier of San Diego and Christopher Cafaro of San Francisco.

Born June 19, 1956, in Indianapolis, she lived in Oceanside for most of her life. She attended El Camino High School and Oceanshores.
Ms. Saxton-Hixen-Schlee was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Schlee, in 1992; and her brother, James Saxton, in 1994. INYOKERN - Donald Harry Miller, 64, died Monday, July 24, 2000.
Born July 5, 1936, in Boscobel, Wis., he lived in Inyokern for three years. He worked for Pipefitter Local 343 before retiring in 1993. He served in the U.S. Navy for eight years.
Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Miller. POWAY - Linda Alice Despars, 41, died Monday, July 31, 2000, of a brain aneurysm, at Kaiser Zion Hospital.
Born Sept. 11, 1958, in Buffalo, N.Y., she lived in Poway for seven years. She was a Realtor for Coldwell Banker and involved with the Poway Unified School District Parent-Teacher Association and the BUNCO Club. She was an organ donor.
Mrs. Despars is survived by her husband of 19 years, Robert Despars of Poway; mother Grace Pembleton of Poway; son Michael Despars of Poway; daughter Alaina Despars of Poway; brothers John Pembleton of San Pedro and Charles Pembleton of Germany; and sister Christine Merchant of San Diego.

ENCINITAS - Paul M. McCluskey, 85, died Friday, June 30, 2000, at Scripps Oceanview in Encinitas.
Born Feb. 9, 1915, in Canada, he lived in Encinitas for 19 years. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
Mr. McCluskey is survived by his companion of many years, Margarite MacDonald of Encinitas; and great-grandchild Katie MacDonald.
A private cremation is planned with interment to take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma, with military honors and ceremony.

Fred Hammond, 71
VALLEY CENTER - Fred Richard Hammond, 71, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000, in La Jolla.
Born July 4, 1929, in Anaheim, he lived in Valley Center for 27 years. He was an equipment operator for Dorfman Construction Co. for 40 years and served as a corporal in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1952. He was a member of the American Legion.
Mr. Hammond is survived by his wife, Alberta J. Hammond of Valley Center; son Richard Dale Hammond of Escondido; daughters Judy Lynn Hammond of Polson, Mont., and Kathleen Jane Hied of San Marcos; brother James Hammond of Durant, Okla.; and grandchildren Roce-Lan Wymer, Wesley Hied, Whitney Hied and Thomas Hammond.

Hewitt Coleman, 83
FALLBROOK - Hewitt Lincoln Coleman, 83, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, in Fallbrook.
Born Oct. 12, 1916, in Detroit, he lived in Fallbrook for 21 years. He was a lead man for McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft for 23 years and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.
Mr. Coleman is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sylvia M. Coleman of Fallbrook; daughters Andrea Merrifield of San Marcos, Cheryl Wentz of Irvine, Barbara Schaefer of Sartell, Minn., and Denise Kline of Yakima, Wash.; brother Gary Coleman; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
No service will be held at the request of the deceased. Burial will take place at a time and location to be determined. A private cremation is planned.

Michael Robertson, 50
ESCONDIDO - Michael Ray Robertson, 50, died Thursday, July 27, 2000, in Poway.
Born July 8, 1950, in Madera, he lived in San Diego County for 14 years. He was a systems engineer for British Aero Space. He graduated from UCLA in 1973 and was a poker player and loved sports, especially football, traveling and bed and breakfast hotels.
Mr. Robertson is survived by his companion of nine years, Jolene Henkel of Escondido; mother Gwen King of Madera; son John Andrew Robertson of Santa Cruz; daughter Monica Anne Robertson of Escondido; and brothers Steve Robertson of Fresno and Doug Robertson of Portsmouth, N.H.
Viewing will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at Alhiser-Comer Mortuary. A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, at Madera United Methodist Church. A private cremation is planned.

ESCONDIDO - Hilda Anora Baldwin Bailey, 84, died Sunday, July 23, 2000, at Palomar Medical Center.
Born April 15, 1916, in Brown City, Mich., she lived in Tucson, Ariz., and in Escondido for 30 years. She was a licensed psychiatric attendant nurse in Pontiac, Mich., and a nurses aide in Tucson and Escondido before her retirement in 1977.
Mrs. Bailey was preceded in death by her husband, E. Jack Bailey, in 1968; her sisters Mary Priscilla Baldwin, Margaret Greer and Ethyl Orchard; brother James Baldwin; and grandson Steven Jockwig.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Marilyn Bailey of Oxford, Mich.; daughters and sons-in-law Jeanette and Bill Jacobs of Escondido and Wilma and Dave Jockwig-Froling of Davisburg, Mich.; brother Nelson Baldwin of Croswell, Mich.; sisters-in-law San Borst of Rochester, Mich., and Eveis Baldwin of Marlette, Mich.; grandchildren Kevin, Barbara, Kelley, Bill, Susan, Korey, Dustin, Christine, Kimberley and Stephanie; great-grandchildren Eric, Ashley, Alexa, Shawn, Matthew, Vanessa, Jaime, Emily, Cassie, Elizabeth and Brandon; and several nieces and nephews.

Patricia Johnson, 67
OCEANSIDE - Patricia Margaret Johnson, 67, died Wednesday, July 19, 2000, from complications of emphysema, at Tri-City Medical Center.
Born April 21, 1933, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, she lived in Oceanside for 38 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her son, Scotty Drake, in 1979. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, David and Robin Drake of League City, Texas, and Mark S. Drake and Mike D. Drake, both of Oceanside; and grandchildren Kayann and Rachel Lynn Drake of Chicago, Andrea and Jonathon Drake of Texas and Ryan and Kyle Drake of California.
A Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 29, at San Luis Rey Mission Chapel, with the Rev. Andres Rivero officiating. A private scattering of ashes at sea is planned.

DESTIN, Fla. - David E. "Dave" Johnson, 43, died Thursday, July 27, 2000, after a long illness, in Destin, Fla.
Born April 22, 1957, he was a former resident of San Marcos and attended San Marcos High School. He was a self-employed plasterer and loved hunting and fishing.
Dave is survived by his daughter, Angela Johnson of San Marcos; son Daniel Johnson of San Marcos; and an extended family and friends.
A funeral service was held in Destin on the beach. His cremains will be scattered in Park Rapids, Minn.
Isobel Heron, 65
SAN MARCOS - Isobel A. Herron, 65, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, at a San Diego hospital.
Born March 5, 1935, in Ottawa, Canada, she lived in San Marcos for 13 years. She was a homemaker for 45 years and served in the Royal Canadian Air Force.
Mrs. Herron is survived by her husband of 45 years, J. Barry Herron of San Marcos; son Jay Herron of San Marcos; daughters Wendy Jones of San Marcos, Nancy Smith of Phoenix and Kelly Davis of Long Beach; brothers Leo Bisson and John Bisson, both of Ottawa; sister Teresa Falkner of Vancouver, Canada; and five grandchildren.
A private memorial service is planned. A private family interment will take place at San Marcos Cemetery.
