Born April 4, 1915, in Rochester, N.Y., he lived in Ramona for nine years. He was an automobile salesman for 30 years and served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves from 1943 to 1945.
Mr. Archibald is survived by his daughters, Linda Dellens of Ramona and Carolyn Reynolds and Jeanne Brunner, both of New York; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 10, at Oak Hill Memorial Park, with the Rev. Alex Draese of the First Congregational Church oficiating. Burial will follow.

Francis Byrne, 93
OCEANSIDE - Francis Yoder Byrne, 93, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999, of prostate cancer, at his home in Oceanside.
Born Oct. 25, 1906, in Clyde, Kan., he lived in Oceanside for nine years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a storekeeper 1st class. He was a member of the Catholic Church and a lineman supervisor for Pacific Telephone before retiring.
Mr. Byrne was preceded in death by his sister, Mildred Byrne; and his nephew, Steve Hampton, in 1999. He is survived by his wife, Carmelina R. Byrne; cousins Milton Regnier and Darylene Newell, both of Clay Center, Kan.
A rosary was recited Sunday, Dec. 19. A memorial service was held Friday, Dec. 17, at San Rafael Catholic Church in Rancho Bernardo, with the Rev. Lloyd officiating. A memorial Mass was celebrated Wednesday, Dec. 29, at Mission San Luis Rey, with the Rev. Vince officiating. Interment
took place Wednesday, Dec. 22, at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in Point Loma, with military honors.

OCEANSIDE - Larry B. Spinner, 54, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, in Oceanside.
Born June 16, 1945, in New Jersey, he lived in Oceanside for 12 years. He was a Teamster.
Mr. Spinner was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Spinner, in 1978. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Pamela Spinner of Oceanside; daughters Gina Spinner of Phoenix and Erin Spinner of Oceanside; brothers Ray Wilson of Howell, N.J., and Ken Ilgavizious of Mountainside, N.J.; and sister Patty DiMaggio of Rahway, N.J.
A celebration of life Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Carlsbad with the Rev. Stephen McCall officiating. A private cremation is planned with cremains to be scattered at sea.

MENIFEE - John Montizor Tapia, 51, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, of hypertension, in Menifee.
Born in Long Beach, he lived in Menifee for 10 years. He was a chef with Inland Valley Medical Center for 20 years and served in the U.S. Army for two years. He was a member of St. Vincent's Catholic Church.
Mr. Tapia is survived by his wife, Carmina A. Tapia of Menifee; brothers Donald Tapia of San Diego and Felix Tapia Jr. of Long Beach; and sister Brenda Ngoho of Culver City.
Visitation will be held from noon to 5 p.m., with a rosary recited at 4 p.m., today, Jan. 8, and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 9, at Evans Brown Sun City Chapel. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 10, at St. Vincent's Ferrer Catholic Church. Burial will follow at 11:45 a.m. at Riverside National Cemetery, Staging Area 4.

Arthur Rice, 82
TEMECULA - Arthur T. Rice, 82, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, of cancer, at his home in Temecula.
Born Sept. 27, 1917, in Farmington, Utah, he lived in Temecula for 14 years. He served as a fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force from 1941 to 1955, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. He received a Distinguished Flying Cross. He earned a bachelor degree from the University of Utah and a master's in business administration from Harvard University in 1952. He owned and operated Art Rice Dodge in Burbank for seven years, worked with Dean Witter in Beverly Hills for more than 10 years and served as license commissioner for the city of Burbank. He farmed an avocado ranch for 20 years and was a member of the Santa Margarita POA.
Mr. Rice is survived by his wife, Lucille Rice of Temecula; daughters Cindy Rice of Pullman, Wash., Christine Weingold of Studio City and Traci Locke of Saratoga; brother H.D. Rice of Centerville, Utah; sisters Lucy Freeman and Alice Brown, both of Salt Lake City, Zola Pound of Steamboat Springs, Colo., Afton Morris of Solana Beach and Helen Wolford of Alexandria, Va.; and six grandchildren.

WINCHESTER - Matthew Steven Warren, 26, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, in a motorcycle accident at Lake Skinner Recreation Area.
Born Dec. 6, 1973, in North Port, Mich., he lived in Winchester for two months. He was a graduate of Michigan State University and was project manager for Plant Equipment in Temecula.
Mr. Warren is survived by his wife, Jennifer Warren of Winchester; parents Steve and Leona Warren of Traverse City, Mich.; sister Rachel Lewis of Lake Odessa, Mich.; and grandparents Emma Warren of Helen, Mont., and Elzo and Mitty Sexton.

LAKE ELSINORE - Arthur Joseph Rennie, 77, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Riverside.
Born April 22, 1921, in St. Joseph, Minn., he lived in Lake Elsinore for 29 years. He was an operating engineer for Local Union No. 12 in Los Angeles for 43 years.
Mr. Rennie is survived by his wife, Esther Rennie of Lake Elsinore; brothers Lawrence Rennie and Norbitt Rennie, both of Minnesota; sisters Nel Pfannenstein, Bernadette Roske and Dorothy Roske, all of Minnesota, and Mary Zabiuski of Idaho; two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

SUN CITY - Armand Anthony Colapietro, 84, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, of cardiac arrest, at Menifee Valley Medical Center.
Born Jan. 4, 1916, in Winsor Locks, Mass., he lived in Sun City for 17 years. He was the owner/operator of Windsor Locks Supermarket in Springfield, Mass., for 40 years and served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945, a member of the Spearheaders of 3rd Armored Division. He was a member of St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church of Sun City and of the Italian Social Club of Sun City.
Mr. Colapietro is survived by his wife, Diane Colapietro of Sun City; and sisters Esther Penna of Long Meadow, Mass., Teresa Reaves of West Hartford, Conn., and Margaret Bertelli of Beverly Hills, Fla.
A funeral service will be held in Springfield, Mass. Burial will take place at Saint Michael's Cemetery.

LAKE ELSINORE - V.A. "Satch" LaValley, 67, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 1999, from complications of diabetes, at St. Bernardine Medical Center.
Born April 28, 1932, in Underwood, Minn., he lived in Lake Elsinore for four years. He graduated from Battle Lake High School and attended Chico State College, graduating with a bachelor of arts in education. He earned his master's degree at the University of Minnesota and joined the faculty of Pine Island High School in Minnesota in 1955, where he taught English, literature and drama. He worked for Murrieta Elementary School, teaching English, literature and drama to 6th, 7th and 8th graders, retiring in 1984. He helped produce the first exhibit of early movie costumes at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and co-authored the exhibit book Hollywood in History.
Mr. LaValley is survived by his companion, Steve Lee; one brother and four sisters, all of Minnesota.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at Murrieta United Methodist Church.

SUN CITY - Paul Clayton DeMello, 69, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at Menifee Valley Medical Center.
Born Feb. 4, 1930, in Hyannis, Mass., he lived in Sun City for four years. He was a section head for Hughes Aircraft in El Segundo for 25 years. and served in the U.S. Navy from 1947 to 1954. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, No. 1956, of Sun City; a life member of Disabled American Veterans; and a member of the First Lutheran Church of Palmdale, serving as elder and vice president for several years.
Mr. DeMello is survived by his wife, Delphane DeMello of Sun City; and mother Lucy Robie of Barnstable, Mass.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 10, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Burial will take place at Riverside National Cemetery.

Born in October 1909, in Murrieta, he lived in Escondido for 3 1/2 years. He worked for the Fallbrook Union Elementary School District and was a member of the Murrieta United Methodist Church and Toastmasters.

LEUCADIA - Eugene Joseph Manganiello, 85, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, of pneumonia, at Palomar Medical Center.
Born June 8, 1914, in New York City, he lived in Leucadia for 25 years. He was an aeronautical engineer for NASA and a volunteer with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. He was past president of the Society for Automotive Engineers.
Mr. Manganiello is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen M. Manganiello of Leucadia; sons Gene Manganiello of Escondido and Guy Mark Manganiello of Los Angeles; daughters Gail M. Kelley of Carlsbad and Gwen E. Manganiello of Encinitas; sister Eleanor Mauro of Oceanside; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Ralph Copeland, 76
VISTA - Ralph Louis Copeland Sr., 76, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, of heart failure, in San Jose.
Born March 26, 1923, in Bridgeville, Pa., he lived in Vista for 20 years. He was the owner of Coppola's Gift Shop in Carlsbad and worked in retail sales for Safeway and Pacific Indoor Advertising. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air corps during World War II and was past president of Carlsbad Lions Club and a member of Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Copeland was preceded in death by his wife, Delphine Copeland, in 1999. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ralph Jr. and Kathleen Copeland of San Jose; daughter Louise Copeland of Vista; brother Frank Copeland of Frasier, Mich.; sister Rosemary Ryker of Fort Worth, Texas; granddaughters Kim Caldwell of San Jose and Tracy Field of Georgetown, Texas; and four great-grandsons.

VISTA - James David "Jim" Abernathy, 75, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at his home.
Born Dec. 1, 1924, in Inglewood, he lived in Vista for 16 years. He was a rabbit rancher for 39 years and served as a naval gunner's mate in the U.S. Navy aboard the battleship Missouri during World War II.
Mr. Abernathy is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret Abernathy of Vista; daughters Vicki Abernathy of Cardiff, Sue Moore of Norco and Linda Harvey of Vista; brothers Tom Abernathy and Billy Abernathy, both of Merced; sisters Thelma Huffman of San Pablo and Betty Lou Carll of Buena Park; and seven grandchildren.

Born June 26, 1916, in Everett, Wash., she lived in Fallbrook for two years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Religious Science, serving in the choir. She was a member of Runebury Lodge in Everett, Swedish/Finland Group, and a member of the Senior Center Kitchen Band, the YMCA Women's Auxiliary and past PTA president in Everett.
Mrs. Sheppard was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Sheppard, in 1992; and her son, Elmer Weaver, in 1982. She is survived by her son, Robert Weaver of Marysville, Wash.; daughter Marilee Ragland of Fallbrook; stepdaughter Betty Kayser of Stanwood, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Born Sept. 3, 1909, in Trento, Italy, she lived in Vista for 50 years. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1924 and began residency in Vista in 1936. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Wagner is survived by her son, Frank Wagner of Escondido; daughter and son-in-law Norma and Eugene Jungjohann of Germany; daughter-in-law Barbara Weeda of Escondido; grandchildren Mark Jungjohann of Hollywood, Earl Wagner of San Jose, Karin Jungjohann of Germany and Mia Jungjohann of Germany; and two great-grandchildren.
