LONG BEACH - Gladys Mabel Woodward, 89, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Bixby Knolls Towers in Long Beach.
Born June 8, 1911, in Mangum, Okla., she lived in Long Beach for two years and had lived in Sun City for 28 years. She was a homemaker for 68 years. She enjoyed square dancing and traveling and was a member of Sun City United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Woodward is survived by her sons, Donald Woodward of Tucson, Ariz., and Dale Woodward of Seal Beach; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1:15 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 21, at Riverside National Cemetery, Staging Area 2. Burial will follow.

Harvey Rechnitzer, 86
ESCONDIDO - Harvey B. Rechnitzer, 86, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at his home.
Born July 4, 1914, on S. Juniper in Escondido, he lived his entire life at this address. He made the adobe bricks and built his own home on the property where he was born. He was a professional painter, paper hanger and carpenter and worked for MCRD for 27 years, retiring as a quarterman. He was given a Superior Accomplishment Award. He restored machines and engines displayed at the California Gas & Engine Tractor Show and at Grape Day Festival. He was a member of Hidden Valley Christian Church.
Mr. Rechnitzer was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, F. Mildred "Mickey" Rechnitzer, on Sept. 4, 1995. He is survived by his sons, Lin Rechnitzer and Jack Rechnitzer, both of Escondido; daughter Dinah Olds of Escondido; brother Andreas Rechnitzer of El Cajon; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at Hidden Valley Christian Church in Escondido, with the Rev. Pete Mayfield officiating. Inurnment will take place at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

RAMONA - Helen H. Bowen, 92, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000.
Born Sept. 23, 1907, in San Diego, she lived in Ramona for more than 50 years. She graduated from San Diego High School and San Diego State College. She was a teacher from 1926 to 1977, teaching at Midland School in Poway when it was a four-teacher school, at Valley School and in Warner Springs and Penasquitos. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and a lifetime member of the Ramona Pioneer Historical Society.
Mrs. Bowen was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Bowen, on Nov. 17, 1984. She is survived by her sons, Ed Bowen of Ramona and Dave Bowen of Collbran, Colo.; daughter Ann Varnado of Ramona; brother Steve Hulbert of La Mesa; grandchildren Chi and Bo Varnado and Dale, Jason and James Bowen, all of Ramona, Tamara Deacon of La Mesa and Kevin and Daniel Bowen of Utah; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at Nuevo Memory Gardens in Ramona, where her ashes will be buried with her late husband.

SUN CITY - Rena E. Waite-Clarke, 54, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, of lung cancer, at her home.
Born in Jamaica, she lived in Sun City for five years. She attended Technical Institute and worked as a cosmetologist in Riverside for five years. She was a member of Christ the King Community Church and Mount Carey Baptist Church.
Mrs. Waite-Clarke was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by two daughters; one son; mother Violet E. Waite; five brothers; four sisters; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, at Evans Brown Mortuary in Sun City. A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at the mortuary. Burial will follow at Perris Valley Cemetery.

SUN CITY - Clara Irene Zimbo, 94, died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000, at Menifee Valley Medical Center in Sun City.
Born Dec. 17, 1905, in Buckeye, Ariz., she lived in Sun City for five years. She was an office attendant for Guenthers Murrieta Hot Springs Spa in Murrieta for 32 years. She enjoyed gardening and raising chickens and birds.
Mrs. Zimbo is survived by her daughter, Irma Mytrowitz of Sun City; granddaughters Linda Allen of Calpine and Denise and Tom Mullen of Colorado; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Burial will take place at Elsinore Valley Cemetery.

Nicholas Ellul, 77
SUN CITY - Nicholas Ellul, 77, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at Menifee Valley Medical Center in Sun City.
Born Nov. 29, 1922, in Malta, he lived in Sun City for 12 years. He was a quality controller at Chrysler in Michigan for 23 years and served in the Merchant Marines from 1961 to 1972. He was a baker and enjoyed telling jokes and stories. He was a member of St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Sun City.
Mr. Ellul is survived by his wife, Andreana Ellul of Sun City; daughters Connie Ellul and Rita Ellul, both of Sun City; and sister Maria Grima of Malta.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., with a rosary recited at 7 p.m., today, Aug. 20, at Miller-Jones Mortuary. A funeral service is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21, at St. Vincent's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael O'Day officiating. Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Crestlawn Memorial Park.

John Morgan, 74
EUREKA - Judge John Burns Morgan, 74, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, from heart disease and cancer.
Born Dec. 8, 1925, in Long Beach, he lived in Eureka and had lived in Riverside County, including Riverside and Temecula for 45 years. He practiced law in Riverside County for almost 30 years. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry with the 103rd Division and was awarded a Purple Heart. He attended Bakersfield Junior College and the law school at Stanford University, graduating in 1953. He was a public defender and deputy district attorney for Riverside County before going into private practice in 1965. He was a U.S. Commissioner from 1967 to 1971 and retired in 1994. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and shoot trapping. He helped develop a backpacking and rock climbing store, Highland Outfitters.
Judge Morgan is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Morgan; sons and daughters-in-law John and Brenda Morgan and David and Sue Morgan; daughter Melanie Morgan; grandchildren Michael, Steven, Crystal, William, Travis, Bradley and Lynzie; and niece Jan Ford Paxton and nephew John Paxton.

VISTA - David Lara Garcia, 85, died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at his home.
Born Oct. 8, 1914, in Colton, he lived in Vista for 27 years. He was a bartender for the Green Lantern Cocktail Lounge and a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.
Mr. Garcia is survived by his wife, Aurelia Garcia of Vista; son David M. Garcia of Vista; daughters and son-in-law Margaret Gilbert of Vista and Irma and Roberta Apodaca of Hayward; brothers Edward Garcia of San Diego and Alfred Garcia of Lakewood; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Dunlap was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond A. Dunlap, in 1972. She is survived by her sons, Timothy R. Dunlap of Fallbrook, Kit C. Dunlap of Chula Vista and Danny R. Mr. Hotz was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Jane Amelia Hotz, in 1997. He is survived by his sons, Paul Hotz of Vista and Marshall Govindin of Quebec, Canada; daughter Gail Tarrant of Lake Forest; and grandchildren Christi Tarrant of San Francisco and Kimberly Tarrant of Ontario.

Abraham Kahn, 91
MURRIETA - Abraham S. Kahn, 91, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at Rancho Springs Medical Center in Murrieta.
Born Oct. 22, 1908, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Murrieta for 10 years. He was a self-employed musician for 60 years and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Congregation B'nai Chaim in Murrieta and the Knights of Pythias King David Lodge No. 237. He was also a member of the Musicians Union of California. He enjoyed travel, good food and good clothing.
Mr. Kahn was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Kahn. He is survived by his sister, Tillie Kahn of Miami; and brother-in-law Ben Slackman of Las Vegas.
A graveside service was held Monday, Aug. 21, at Riverside National Cemetery, Staging Area 3, with Rabbi Akiva N. Gerstein officiating.
