Glen Powers, 83
SUN CITY - Glen Edward Powers, 83, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, of congestive heart failure, at Magnolia Convalescent Hospital in Riverside.
Born Nov. 25, 1917, in Aberdeen, Wash., he lived in Sun City for 14 years. He was a pneumatic tool operator at the Naval Shipyards in Long Beach for 25 years and served in the U.S. Army from 1934 to 1937.
Mr. Powers is survived by his wife, Geraldine Powers of Sun City; daughter Pat Jones of Manteca; son Mark Powers of La Mirada; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at Riverside National Cemetery, Staging Area 1. Burial will follow.

Joan Huegel, 65
SUN CITY - Joan LaRee Huegel, 65, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Menifee Valley Medical Center in Sun City.
Born April 20, 1935, in Lincoln, Neb., she lived in Sun City for 10 years. She was a kitchen supervisor for the San Bernardino Unified School District for five years and enjoyed oil painting, collecting antiques, interior decorating and working outside.
Mrs. Huegel is survived by her husband of 48 years, Walter Huegel of Sun City; daughters Elizabeth Quirk of Canyon Lake and Rowena Roma of Topeka, Kan.; sisters Sally Abington of Fort Walton School, Fla., Kalli Bradley and Katherine Markham, both of Lincoln, Neb., and Sharon Vest of Rockport., Mo.; brother Ronald Bradley of Lincoln; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at Miller-Jones Mortuary. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the mortuary.

Kenneth Muehlhauser, 78
CARLSBAD - Kenneth O. Muehlhauser, 78, died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at San Clemente Hospital.
Born Feb. 21, 1922, in Mascoutah, Ill., he lived in Carlsbad for 25 years. He was a precision grinder for Miller Precision Grinding and served in the U.S. Marines.
Mr. Muehlhauser was preceded in death by his mother and father, Amalia and Otto Muehlhuuser. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lavina Muehlhauser of Carlsbad; son Kent Muehlhauser of Escondido; daughters Linda Muehlhauser-Alt of Encinitas and Leslee Muehlhauser of Carlsbad; sister Mildred S. Muehlhauser of Mascoutah; and grandchildren Justin McCunn, Travis Fain, Morgan Fain and Jasmine, Tyler and Dillon Muehlhauser and John Alt Jr.
A private memorial service is planned. His ashes will be scattered.

Bobbie Shelton, 68
OCEANSIDE - Bobbie J. Shelton, 68, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, in Oceanside.
Born Aug. 27, 1932, in Redwine, Ark., she lived in Oceanside for 33 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Shelton was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Shelton, in 1997; and her son, John C. Shelton, in 1969. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, James and Deborah Shelton of Vista; daughter Cynthia Windrum of Oceanside; brothers and sisters-in-law Wallace and Janice Cossey of Little Rock, Ark., and Donny and Diane Cossey of Sherwood, Ark.; sister and brother-in-law Doleres and Leon Southern of Bryant, Ark.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

ESCONDIDO - Connie Jean Formiller, 39, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Palomar Medical Center.
Born Nov. 4, 1961, in Nashville, Tenn., she lived in Escondido for 10 years. She worked for Costco in San Marcos and was a parent volunteer at Felicita Elementary School for five years, a PTA member and a volunteer for Project READ.
Mrs. Formiller is survived by her husband of 21 years, James Formiller of Escondido; and daughter Lisa Jean Formiller of Escondido.
A funeral service will be held at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Escondido, with Deacon Tom Maher officiating. A private cremation is planned.

ESCONDIDO - Nancy Lynn Arrington, 43, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, in Escondido.
Born June 14, 1957, in Sioux City, Iowa, she lived in Escondido for 20 years. She was a Christian school teacher in North County for 18 years and a member of the Escondido Jaycees, Emmanuel Faith Community Church and North Coast Community Church in Vista. She attended Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Okla.
Ms. Arrington is survived by her father, Robert Thomas of Arvada, Colo.; daughter Felicia Arrington of Escondido; brother Gregory Thomas of Golden, Colo.; and sister Sharon Thomas of Lakewood, Colo.
Burial will take place at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

VISTA - Hildegard T. Murray, 72, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, in Vista.
Born April 7, 1928, in Augsburg, Germany, she lived in Vista. She was a homemaker and loved to cook and play bingo.
Mrs. Murray is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Argia McKercher and Patricia Murray, both of Escondido, and Caroline and Scott Rattenborg of Lake Elsinore; and grandchildren Valarie Pinney, Brian Rattenborg and Joey McKercher.

Janet Kane, 72
OCEANSIDE - Janet H. Kane, 72, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000.
She was born in 1928 in Chicago and lived in Oceanside. She enjoyed New Orleans style jazz, did sound set-up for festivals and was a contributing writer for Intermission, the publication of the New Orleans jazz clubs of Southern California. She was a sales agent and consultant for the Armento Liturgical Arts Co. of Buffalo, N.Y.
Ms. Kane is survived by her mother, Arvilla Marie Kane of Mount Prospect, Ill.; brother Edward F. Kane Jr. of Apache Junction, Ariz.; sisters Barbara Kolassa and Joan Crescio; friends Sarah Hart and John Swanson of Oceanside, Liz Huefner of Long Beach and Eli and Karen Pavoni of Wildomar; and many relatives in Tecumseh, Mich.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date at Mission San Luis Rey Chapel.
Maria Salsido, 88
VISTA - Maria Consuelo Salsido, 88, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Tri-City Medical Center.
Born Aug. 14, 1912, in Mexico, she lived in Vista for 71 years. She was a homemaker for 35 years.
Mrs. Salsido is survived by her sons, Manuel Salsido and James Salsido, both of Santa Barbara, and Jose Salsido of Jantau Island, Hong Kong; daughters Alice Salcido of Fallbrook, Rosie Villarial and Dora Alvarado, both of Vista, and Hortancia Githen of Santa Barbara; brothers Tony Grijalva of Murrieta and Gilbert Grijalva of Oceanside; sisters Mary Amparano of Vista and Berniece Torres of Carlsbad; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at Allen Bros. Mortuary, Vista Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Eternal Hills Memorial Park.

ESCONDIDO - Carolyn Jean Pearcy, 59, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at her home.
Born Sept. 3, 1941, in Illinois, she lived in Escondido for 33 years. She worked for Magnetic Arts and H.P. before retiring in 1999. She was a member of Gateway Community Church in Escondido.
Mrs. Pearcy was preceded in death by her father, Wilton Dee Morrison, in 1964. She is survived by her husband of six years, Thomas L. Pearcy of Escondido; mother Clara Mabee of Pekin, Ill.; son Scott Bell and fiance Clare Thomas of Escondido; stepsons and daughter-in-law Donald Pearcy of Las Vegas, Scott and Anne Pearcy of St. Paul, Minn., and Eric Pearcy of Escondido; daughters and sons-in-law Cheri and Roland Allen of Vista and Laurie and Toby Brown of Escondido; stepdaughter and son-in-law Stacey and Andy Dawson of Poway; brothers and sisters-in-law Bob and Ellen Morrison and Allen and Beth Morrison, all of Pekin, and James Morrison of Chicago; sister and brother-in-law Marge and Barrie Wilson of Aurora, Ill.; grandchildren Brooke Brown, Kristoffer Brown, Kylie Brown, Amanda Allen, Jenna Judziewicz, Noah Dawson and Cali and Baby Pearcy.

SAN MARCOS - Marie Alvarado, 80, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at Escondido Care Center.
Born Nov. 7, 1920, in Mexico, she lived in San Marcos. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Alvarado was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Thomas Alvarado, on Sept. 1, 1989. She is survived by her sons, Daniel Garcia of Escondido, Arthur Garcia of Poway and Thomas Alvarado Jr. of Las Vegas; daughters Diana Ceballos, Phyllis Wencek and Doreen Boyens, all of San Marcos, and Teresa Maden of Wisconsin; brother Edward Gonzales of Arkansas; sisters Virginia Hayden and Gloria Popejoy, both of Arizona, and Amparo Wilcox of Arkansas; 17 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Harry Edwards, 88
SAN MARCOS - Harry W. Edwards, 88, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at Scripps Ocean Vie Convalescent Hospital in Encinitas.
Born June 29, 1912, in London, Ontario, he lived in San Diego County for 54 years. He served as a master tech. sergeant for the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was a Frazee Paint Co. store manager for 35 years.
Mr. Edwards is survived by his wife, Sherry Edwards of San Marcos; daughter and son-in-law Susan and Walter Moise of San Marcos; son Gary Edwards of Jamul; brother Gilbert Edwards of Rancho Bernardo; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, at the High Country Villa Club House in Encinitas. A private inurnment will take place at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego.

Paul Haughey, 89
ESCONDIDO - Paul Stephen Haughey, 89, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, from complications of a stroke.
Born Aug. 30, 1911, in Nottingham, England, he came to America at the age of 10 and lived in Escondido for 43 years. He was an educator and administrator for the Seventh-day Adventist Church for 42 years and operated the Christian ABC book store in Escondido from 1976 to 1982. He was a co-owner of Gillons Floral Gardens in the San Pasqual Valley from 1982 to 1995 when he retired.
Mr. Haughey was preceded in death by his mother and father, Florence and Stephen Haughey; and his wife of 59 years, Vera Bernice Glantz Haughey, in 1995. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Marolyn Haughey of Escondido; daughter and son-in-law Dottie and Bill Gillon of Escondido; sister Ruth F. Hallar of Grants Pass, Ore.; grandchildren Teri Kuhlman of Walla Walla, Wash.; Richard Haughey II of Manhattan Beach, Todd Petrik of Salt Lake City, Kristi McGee, John Gillon and Lenae Haughey, all of Escondido; great-grandchildren Meghan McGee and Patrick McGee, both of Escondido, and Spencer Kuhlman of Walla Walla; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Escondido Seventh-day Adventist Church. A private family interment will take place on Sunday, Dec. 10, at San Pasqual Cemetery.

Born July 15, 1916, in Indiana, she lived in Oceanside. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Maloney is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Carleen Maloney of San Diego and Dennis and Ginger Maloney of Tahoe City; daughters and sons-in-law Marjorie and Robert Plassmeyer and Carol and Robert Olchawa, all of Oceanside, and Kathleen and Gary Bolinger of Tennessee; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

POMONA - Loretta June Patten, 50, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at her home.
Born Sept. 20, 1950, in Flagstaff, Ariz., she lived in Pomona for 20 years.
Mrs. Patten was preceded in death by her father, Elzear O. L'Esperance, in June 1955. She is survived by her former husband, Bob Patten, of Ventura; mother Joan L'Esperance of Rancho Cucamonga; daughter Dana Patten of Oceanside; brothers and sisters-in-law Charles and Nancy L'Esperance of Oceanside and Jim and Trudy L'Esperance of Rancho Cucamonga; and grandchild Mahara Olguin.
