Marian L. Aadland
(1947 - 2012)

Marian L. "Cass" Aadland, 65, of Galt, died April 11. She was born on Feb. 3, 1947 in Sacramento.
Mrs. Aadland graduated from Galt High School. She drove a school bus for the Galt Joint Union Elementary School District and sold real estate for a short time. She was a talented artist, and enjoyed fishing, lunch and movies with her friends, and most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Rob Aadland of Galt, and Dan Aadland of Jackson; sisters, Teresa Michel of Acampo, and Judy Fernandez of Valley Springs; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Bill Cass and Ernie Cass.
A memorial service will be held at a later time.
Ben Salas Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Isamu Sam Kamita
(1941-2012)

Isamu Sam Kamita passed away at the age of 71 on October 15, 2012. Sam was born in Watsonville, California, on July 8, 1941 to Shoshichi and Masano Kamita. He retired from the City of Sacramento Parks and Recreation Department after 30 plus years. He enjoyed fishing, photography and especially walking his dogs. Sam loved his dogs and cats. He was a member of the Sacramento Zoological Society and the Northern Nevada Geological Society.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Shoshichi and Masano Kamita, and his 5 brothers; Jim, Kaz, Harry, Tom, and Ben. He is survived by his nieces and nephews; Steven Kamita (Elizabeth), David Kamita (Suzie), Stacy Lorenzen (Jim), Donna Kamita, and George Kamita (Christine). Sam also leaves behind 10 great nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3pm, Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the Lodi Buddhist Temple, 23 North Stockton St., Lodi. Inurnment will be held privately at Cherokee Memorial Park, Lodi. Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home is honored to serve the Kamita Family.

Bill Henslee
(1930-2012)

Bill Henslee of Lodi passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at the age of 82. He died at Lodi Memorial Hospital lovingly surrounded by his family.
Bill was born in Hobart, Oklahoma, on June 1, 1930 to Joseph and Rella Henslee.
He served in the United States Navy.
He is survived by his children Gary (LaDonna) Henslee of Clio, CA, Sharon (Rick) Sanders of Lodi, Kathy Webster of Sacramento, 15 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 11/2 great-great-grandchildren, sisters, Irene Karimi, Joanne Reel and Pat (Paul) Cary, all of Fontana, CA, as well as brothers, Joe (Marie) Henslee of Sparks, NV, Jim (Mona) Henslee of Delhi, CA and Paul (Rosie) Henslee of Grass Valley, CA and numerous others.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, LaVeta Sue Henslee, son, Larry Henslee, parents, Joseph and Rella Henslee, brothers, Bob and Jay; sisters, Alma, Thelma, Velma, Juanita, Selma, Chris, and Callie .
While living in Lodi, he attended Church of Christ, where he was active in the Joy Bus, writing stories and poetry and using his handyman skills around the church building and mechanic skills working on the Joy Bus engine.
In his earlier years, Bill was in the grocery management business in Southern California while in Lodi he worked as a mechanic and tow truck driver for Geweke Ford, owned and operated Cool It Radiator Service, worked as a handyman and landscaper and was in real estate.
Bill enjoyed being with his family, fixing things, woodwork, stained glass, helping others and had a green thumb with his wonderful vegetable gardens which he enjoyed sharing with his family straight off the vine.
He will be remembered for his willingness to help others and always having a story to tell. He will be missed by all who loved him and will remain in our hearts forever.
Military Honors will be rendered at Lodi Memorial Cemetery at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 20 followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Christ, 600 S. Ham Lane, Lodi, CA.

Joan Marie Gaines
(1935-2012)

Joan Marie Gaines, beloved mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother, entered into eternal life on October 10, 2012 at the age of 77. She was born on February 8, 1935 to Henry and Margaret Schwab in Peever, South Dakota.
Joan met Bill Gaines in 1954, while he was in the U.S. Navy, stationed at Rough and Ready Island and they married that same year. She worked together with her husband at Maxwell Motors in Stockton and Lodi for 12 years. She then went on to work for H & R Block in Lodi for 23 years and retired just two weeks ago. Joan was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Being surrounded by her family is what she loved the most. Joan enjoyed cooking, gardening, golfing, reading and playing card games. She always looked forward to her gambling trips to Jackson or to the horse races!
One of Joan's greatest gifts was her time and support she gave to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all of their sports activities. Whether it was football, wrestling, baseball, softball, swimming or water polo, she followed each child with excitement and dedication. She and Bill were both founding members of the Tokay High School Boosters Club.
Joan lived life with authenticity, honesty and laughter and created many fond memories with her family and friends for them to cherish. She will forever be in the hearts of her four children Rod Gaines (Jaynie Tamura) of Lodi, Rock Gaines (Tina) of Lockeford, Daphne Gaines of Stockton and Rick Gaines (Kandy) of Lodi. She will also be missed by her grandchildren Rodney (Sara) Gaines, Kristen Gaines, Jennifer Gaines, Jill Gaines, Dr. Stephanie Edgerly, Gina Edgerly, Brett Edgerly, Kimandy (Bert) Bowerman, Jessica (Pete) Reed, Scott Gaines and ten great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her devoted sister, Lynn McCarty of Lodi, sister-in-law, Shirley Gaines of Ceres, one nephew and two nieces.
Joan was welcomed into heaven by her husband of 54 years and her parents.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service which will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at "Mom's House", 4817 Cosmos Drive in Stockton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Tokay High School Athletic Department, Attention Louis Franklin, 1111 Century Boulevard, Lodi, CA, 95240.

Harold Walter "Ace" Davis
(1944-2012)

Harold Walter Davis passed away on September 26, 2012. Ace was born in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania, on July 1, 1944 to Chester and Mary Davis. He served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1973. During that time, he served in Vietnam. Ace moved to California in 1973. He married the love of his life, Diana Mathiowetz, July 17, 1976 in Reno, Nevada. Ace worked for General Mills for 32 years, retiring in 2010. He loved fishing with his two buddies, Joe Kiser and Art Olmas. Ace also enjoyed going back to the east coast to visit his family. He loved spending time with his two grandsons, his pride and joy. Ace will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Ace is survived by his daughter, Sarah E. Azevedo (John) of Lodi, grandchildren, Cameron and Colin of Lodi, brothers, Joe Kasper of PA and Paul Kasper of NJ, sisters Adelle Miller of PA and Bette Davis of NC, father-in-law Jerome Mathiowetz, numerous nieces and nephews, and the Englert family. He was preceded in death by his parents Chester Davis and Mary Englert, loving wife Diana Davis and brothers Edward and Butch Davis.
A Memorial Service will be held 10 am, Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Chapel of Flowers, Cherokee Memorial Park, Hwy 99 & Harney Ln., Lodi. Inurnment was held privately at Cherokee Memorial Park. Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home is honored to serve the Davis Family.

Bruce Crabtree
(1948-2012)

Bruce Crabtree passed away on October 4 after a courageous battle with lung cancer at the age of 64. He was born in Porterville, on June 10, 1948. He grew up in Elk Grove, and graduated from Elk Grove High School. He worked his entire career in agriculture serving farmers primarily in the Delta.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Claudia, and two children, daughter Sara Tozlian (Dennis) of Paso Robles and son, Joshua Crabtree (Onallee) of Elk Grove and his precious grandchildren Kailey, Nari, Nolan and Hannah. Bruce is also survived by two brothers, Basil and Stanley Crabtree and six sisters Barbara West, Betty Wallen, Bonnie Parker, Beverly Kuntz, Brenda Gibbs and Susan Sutter. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Please join us for a celebration of Bruce's life on October 19 at 11 AM at Elk Grove Funeral Chapel at 9101 Elk Grove Blvd in Elk Grove. Remembrances in Bruce's name can be made to the Travis Fisher House, 100 Bodin Circle, Travis, CA 94535-1804.

Elsie Madeliene Azevedo
(1920-2012)

Elsie M. Azevedo passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was 92. Elsie was born on March 5, 1920, to Alfred and Eva Martin. She has lived the past 50 years in Lodi, where she worked in health care for many years as a Nurse's Assistant.
She enjoyed painting, quilting, sports and vacations with the family.
Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Frank R. Azevedo who passed away in 1969, a grandson Michael Azevedo, 2 brothers and a sister.
She is survived by her children: Frank E. Azevedo, Barbara Ann Bossana, John A. Azevedo, Mary Harrison, 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and bothers John Martin and Ernie Martin.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the Evergreen Chapel at Cherokee Memorial Park, Hwy 99 and Harney Lane in Lodi. Visitation will take place from 4-8 pm on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home, 831 Industrial Way, Lodi.

Rickey Seiji Kiriu
(1956-2012)

Lifelong Lodi area resident Rickey Seiji Kiriu, 56, passed away suddenly on October 11, 2012. Rick was born April 10, 1956, in Lodi. He was raised in Lodi, and attended both Lodi elementary and high schools. Rick was a graduate of Fresno State University, where he was an active member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and earned a degree in Engineering. Rick worked for the County of Fresno before returning to his hometown to work for the City of Lodi as a traffic engineer for the past 27 years. As a young man, Rick was active in sports, church, and the Boy Scouts amongst many other activities. Rick was an Eagle Scout and active in athletics winning a reputation as a fierce competitor on the basketball court where he used his height and natural abilities to become an accomplished player. Rick was a longtime team member of the Buddhist Church of Lodi Japanese League playing for the Intruders. Rick also enjoyed playing baseball for the Buddhist Church League playing for the Lodi Nisei Civics. In addition to basketball and baseball, Rick enjoyed water and snow skiing, fishing and camping. Rick was a very generous and giving man whose huge smile matched his giving heart. Rick contributed freely of his time and talents to his family and was a long time volunteer for various community organizations including the Buddhist Church, Kiwanis Club, and youth sports programs. Rick was always willing to lend a helping hand. Rick loved his family and was involved in the activities and interests of his children. Rick designed the family home and took great pleasure in working on many projects with his family. Rick loved to cook and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and extended family for whom he would prepare gourmet meals on his commercial grade cooktop. Rick also spent countless hours barrel barbecuing for various charities and family, mixing his love of cooking with an easy going, humorous personality, hosting friends and family for both planned and impromptu gatherings.
Rick is survived by his wife, Inez Villa Kiriu of 23 years, son, Kristopher Villa Kiriu and daughter, Karissa Villa Kiriu, all of Lodi; parents Tom and Terry Kiriu of Lodi; brothers, Randy (Debra) of San Diego, Russell (Sandy) of Galt and Rob of Lodi; close family members, Gloria, Lamont, Ginny, Frank, Junior, Cathy, Manuel, Aurora, Gabe, Veronica and many uncles, aunties, cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family members. Rick was preceded in death by infant daughter, Kristen. Rick and his infectious smile will truly be missed by the lives he touched. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., at the Buddhist Church of Lodi, 23 North Stockton Street, Lodi. Committal will be private. Lodi Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
