On January 8, 2010, A. Virginia Davis, fondly known as Ginger to her family and friends, left her cancer ridden body to be with her precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Ginger, a retired SICU RN at St. Joseph's Medical Center, was known by her colleagues as the Fire Lady due to testing the fire alarm system by overcooking a bag of microwave popcorn. The City of Stockton Fire Department made her day by showing up in response to the alarm. The smoke carried two floors and she was never allowed to live it down. Ginger was employed by St. Joseph's Medical Center for 27 years, until her retirement in 2005.
Ginger was born in Canon City, CO, in 1938, raised in the Sacramento area, graduating from Grant Union High School in 1956. She married her husband and widower, Mel Davis, on May 26, 1961. They bore three beautiful children, Rachelle, Greg, and Linda who in turn gave them two son-in-laws, one daughter-in-law, and six grandchildren. She has two sisters and one brother and many nieces and nephews.
Ginger is much loved and will be missed but is rejoicing in the presence of her Savior and King. Look out pecan pie, here she comes. We love you, Sweets, Mama, and Grandma.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the A. Virginia "Ginger" Davis Memorial Nursing Fund at Jim Elliot Christian High School, 2695 W. Vine, Lodi, CA 95242.
