Lois Ann Hildenbrand
(1929 - 2017)
Having lived a fulfilling life, Lois Ann Hildenbrand passed away on May 17th, 2017, at the age of 88, with family by her side. She is now reunited with the love of her life, William "Bill" Hildenbrand, her husband of 51 years.
Lois was born in Kennard, Nebraska, on January 22, 1929, to Andrew and Olga Fowler. At the age of 15, Lois and her mom boarded a train to travel to Michigan to visit her brother. It was on this train trip that Lois met a handsome soldier named, Bill. He was on the first part of his journey to India, to serve in World War II. Addresses were exchanged, along with letters, pictures and cookies for Bill, for two years, while he completed his service. Upon a few days of Bill's return to the states, he made a trip to Kennard. He asked Lois' father for her hand in marriage. Bill and Lois were engaged for one week and married the next, in Nebraska, on December 22, 1946. After their wedding, they returned to Bill's hometown of Lodi, California. Lois began working at Fritz Rott's bakery and Bill worked as a painting contractor. Within three years of marriage, they built their home, where Lois lived for 65 years. Lois was first and always a loving and devoted wife to Bill. At the age of 21, she also became a devoted and loving mother to James "Jim" and three years later to Joani.
Lois kept the books for the family business of Hildenbrand and Son Painting Contractors. She took great pride in her home and yard. She enjoyed cooking, baking and hosting the family, especially during the holidays. She was a Cub Scout leader, taught Sunday School, and enjoyed fishing, boating, and camping.
Lois was a dedicated docent for the San Joaquin County Historical Society and Museum for over 30 years. In 1991, she presented the idea of the "Festival of Trees" to the museum. This annual family event continues to be a success as a result of the hardworking docents and community support.
Lois was a member of Lodi's Vintage Doll Club and enjoyed hosting club programs, events, and luncheons.
Silver Lake has always been a very special place for the Bill Hildenbrand and Walt Sayler families. Ideas for a chapel at Silver Lake, between these two families, became a reality in 1973. Lois served on the chapel's committee for over 30 years with her best friend, Delores Sayler-Harr. Upon their husbands' passings, these two ladies continued to share good times with their families at Silver Lake.
Lois is survived by her son Jim Hildenbrand and his children Tyler and Trevor, her daughter Joani Pruitt and her husband, David, and their children Katy and William, and William's wife Missy and their son Jace. Lois is also survived by three loving sister-in-laws, Florence Fowler, Mayvis Kundert and Vera Cook, along with her husband Lyle, nieces and nephews of the Fowler, Painter, and Cook families, and her dear friend, Delores Harr.
At Lois Hildenbrand's request, "No service. Have a picnic at Silver Lake, when the snow melts."
Family traditions inspired by Lois' creative, direct, but loving, elegant and proper style will continue to honor and cherish her memory. Memorials may be made in her memory to Silver Lake Chapel Memorial Fund or the San Joaquin County Historical Society and Museum.

Leendert "Leen" deSnayer
(1960 - 2010)
Dairyman Leen deSnayer, 50, died Thursday, September 16th in a tragic car accident.
He is remembered by his family and friends as a hard working, passionate, and energetic man who always approached life in a positive way. He was an astute businessman who loved his work and all it entailed. Even though his choice of occupation required him to be on call 24 hours a day, he found it a joy and wouldn't have it any other way. DeSnayer was raised in a little town called Biert, in the Netherlands, on his family's dairy farm and grew to love and appreciate dairy cows and the industry. In 1984, he married Paula van Exel in Holland, and emigrated to Lodi, CA, to fulfill the vision of starting their own dairy. Beginning with only 50 milking cows, the couple worked tirelessly to grow their business. Nearly twenty-five years, after all the challenges, sweat and tears, their dairy now boasts over 1500 milking cows and 1600 non-milking cows and heifers on 700 acres - quite an achievement. While dairy farming was his passion, Leen's greatest joy came from his family. He was a devoted husband and father who loved spending time with his wife and 3 daughters. He was always ready with a big smile and laughing blue eyes. Spending time together whether working, riding bikes, watching a movie, attending sporting events, or just sitting at the kitchen counter laughing and telling jokes was equally special to him. Friends knew they were genuinely welcome, and Leen always took time to visit no matter how busy he was. They could also count on a cup of coffee and a cookie on the side … a Dutch tradition.
As his friends and colleagues can attest, Leen was a man of strong values and humility. He was true to his word and people knew they could count on him. He was generous and would help anyone in need. In addition to the demands of his business, de Snayer was a delegate for Dairy Farmers of America Coop, sat on the board of the San Joaquin Dairy Herd Improvement Association and the District 5 Milk Advisory Board. Since 1986, the de Snayer Dairy hosted over 100 international agricultural trainees from around the world. Leen received a great deal of satisfaction being able to mentor these young students as they embarked on their careers.
He is survived by his wife, Paula Corinne de Snayer of Lodi; three daughters, Alison Corinne Stirm of Atlanta, GA, married to Brandon Stirm, Jessica Ann de Snayer and Erin Lee de Snayer both of Lodi, CA; his mother, Geertje Scheygrond de Snayer of Zuidland, Netherlands; four brothers, Pleun, Gerard, Cor, and Anton de Snayer all from Biert, Netherlands. He was preceded in death by his father, Leendert de Snayer. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 23rd at 11 a.m. at the Zion Reformed Church of Lodi, Pastor Matt Duerr presiding. Visitation will be at Lodi Funeral Home today, Wednesday, September 22nd from 1 p.m. - 8 p.m. Private graveside services will be held on Friday at Cherokee Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions can be made to Tulare Sale Yard at 4013 South K Street, Tulare, CA 93274. Make checks payable to Cal Poly Dairy Cow Fund. In memo space on check, write "Leen de Snayer Memorial Fund".
