Jane B. Greene, 70, died
April 11, 1994, of massive brain damage from a fall. A resident of Palo Alto since 1961, she was a native of Wood River, Ill. She was known as an ardent 49er and Giant's fan and traveled extensively with her husband, a retired TWA pilot. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Stewart Greene of Palo Alto; two sons, Charles and James Greene of Menlo Park; a daughter; and five grandchildren. A mass will be held April 15 at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, 1093 Channing Ave., Palo Alto. Contributions to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
Raymond Kenneth Jacobsen
Raymond Kenneth Jacobsen, 78, A builder, architect and developer who was a longtime Menlo Park resident, died
April 5, 1994 at his home after a long illness. A native of San Francisco and a 1942 graduate of Stanford University, he was a member of the Mounted Patrol of San Mateo County and the Shack Riders. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Jacobsen of Menlo Park; two daughters, including Karen Mora of Woodside; a son; and four grandsons. A memorial service will be held April 18 at 2 p.m. at the Menlo Park Presbyterian Church, 950 Santa Cruz Ave.
Shirley Wilkerson
Shirley Wilkerson, 61, a Palo Alto resident, died
April 10, 1994 in Palo Alto. A native of Eugene, Ore., she attended Mills College in Oakland and the University of Oregon at Eugene. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Wilkerson of Palo Alto; her mother; two sisters; and nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held April 15 at 3 p.m. at the family home, 935 Ramona St., Palo Alto.
Sheldon C. Woodward
Sheldon C. Woodward, 72, a longtime Portola Valley resident, died
April 9, 1994 after a short illness. A native of Michigan, he attended Wesleyan University and the University of Michigan Medical School. Following service in the Army Medical Corps, he joined the Menlo Medical Clinic, specializing in pediatrics. His interests included photography, botany and open space preservation. He was active in the Charles Armstrong School, served on the Archive Committee for the town of Portola Valley and for the past 15 years was a docent at the Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Woodward of Portola Valley; four sons; and six grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve.
Walter Nelson Bush
Walter Nelson Bush, 82, a 43-year resident of Atherton, died
April 14, 1994 at the Veterans' Affairs Hospital in Palo Alto. A native of San Francisco, he attended the University of California, Berkeley, and Oregon State University. He worked for Price, Waterhouse before World War II. He served in both Europe and the Pacific during World War II, after which he worked with Del Monte Foods for 30 years. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sarah, and two sons. Elsa H. Davison
Elsa H. Davison, 83, a four-year resident of Palo Alto, died
April 4, 1994. A native of Montana, she graduated from Montana State University in 1933, where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She went on to teach in normal school and she was an editor of the Billings Gazette. In 1941, after moving to Seattle with her husband, she taught in elementary school and volunteered time to the Children's Hospital working to set up a program that would provide milk to public school children. She also volunteered time to the YWCA where she ran a group for teens, and to Bishop S. Bayne at the Cathedral. In 1951, she moved to Arcadia, Calif., and taught in the Vanguard Program for St. Luke's Episcopal Church. She is survived by a daughter, Sonya Lamb of Menlo Park; a sister; and two grandchildren.
John B. Dermody
The Rev. John B. Dermody, 85, died
April 18, 1994 in Mountain View. A native of Ireland, he was pastor emeritus of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish in Palo Alto. He is survived by a sister; two nieces; and four nephews. A vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. April 15 and a funeral mass will be said at 10 a.m. April 26 at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 3233 Cowper St., Palo Alto.
Milton Flocks
Milton Flocks, 79, an 18-year resident of Palo Alto, died
April 14, 1994 of cancer. An ophthalmologist practicing in Palo Alto for 36 years, he was one of the first to use the laser in medicine. He pioneered the development of a revolutionary diagnostic technique in ophthalmology and he was an inventor of the Harrington-Flocks multiple pattern method of visual field examination. He served in the U.S. Army for five years during World War II as an officer in the Medical Corps and was awarded the Bronze Star. He served as president of the Portola Valley School Board and was a member of the American Humanist Association. He is survived by three sons, including Franklin Flocks of Palo Alto; a daughter; two grandchildren; a brother; and a sister. A memorial gathering will be held April 30 at the Palo Alto Unitarian Church, 505 E. Charleston Road, Palo Alto. Joanne O. Freeman
Joanne O. Freeman, 67, a native of Palo Alto, died
April 15, 1994 in Los Altos Hills. She is survived by four sons, including Verne Freeman Jr. of Palo Alto and Steven Freeman of Los Altos Hills; three daughters, including Suzanne McKenna of Menlo Park; a sister; and six grandchildren, including Melanie Rose Freeman and Camille Joy Freeman of Palo Alto, and Kelly McKenna and Holly McKenna of Menlo Park.
Michael Gordon Head
Michael Gordon Head, 52, a former Palo Alto resident, died
April 20, 1994 of cancer. A 1960 graduate of Palo Alto High School, He served as a lieutenant of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was director of corporate purchasing at Syntex Inc. of Palo Alto for 13 years. He is survived by his wife; two sons; two sisters; and his father. Muriel Price Jones
Muriel Price Jones, 85, died
April 13, 1994 in Menlo Park. She graduated from Stanford University with a degree in English literature and tutored students in the San Jose School District. She was active in several community organizations, including Allied Arts Guild, the Peninsula Rose Society and the Friendly Visitors. She is survived by two sons, Robert Squier Jones Jr. of Portola Valley and Nicholas Price Jones of Menlo Park; a daughter; seven grandchildren, including Kenneth Price Jones of Menlo Park and David, Alison and Peter Jones of Portola Valley; and a great-granddaughter. Dorothy Knoles McAllister
Dorothy Knoles McAllister, 91, a 17-year resident of Portola Valley, died
April 6, 1994. She studied music at the College of the Pacific and began teaching in 1925 at Marysville High School. After moving to the Bay Area in 1931, she served as organist for two churches, the San Mateo Presbyterian Church and the First United Methodist Church of Burlingame. She traveled extensively with her husband to Europe, Asia and South America and finally settled in Portola Valley. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, Mu Phi Epsilon, the PEO and the First United Methodist Church of Palo Alto. She is survived by a sister and two brothers, including George H. Barbara Miller Moore
Barbara Miller Moore, 43, died
April 11, 1994 of cancer. Born in Alexandria, Va., she lived in the San Francisco Bay Area from the age of 3 until moving to Texas with her family in 1991. She was a professional consultant in management and human resource development and worked for IBM, Motorola, AMD and other corporations. She graduated from Cubberley Senior High School in Palo Alto and earned a bachelor's degree in religious studies from Occidental College in Los Angeles. She earned a master's in counseling psychology and a certificate in general management from the University of Santa Clara. A gifted choral singer, she performed with the Occidental College Glee Club and various church choirs. She is survived by a husband; three young children; her father and stepmother; and two sisters. A memorial service will be held April 24 at 3:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Palo Alto, 625 Hamilton Ave., Palo Alto.
