April 17, 1994 at his home in Redwood City. A native of San Mateo County, he attended Menlo-Atherton High School and Canada College and served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman. He worked at the Menlo Park Police Department from 1975 until 1991. He is survived by his mother and father, a brother, a niece and a grandmother.

Alma C. Torcellini, 78, died
April 23, 1994 in Palo Alto. A native of Humphrey, Neb., she is survived by her husband, Lawrence J. Torcellini of Palo Alto; two sons; a daughter; a sister; and a brother. A funeral mass will be said at 10 a.m. April 27 at St. Athanasius Church, 160 N. Rengstorff Ave., Mountain View.
Calvin Young
Calvin Young, 48, died
April 19, 1994 of complications from AIDS. He worked at University Art Store in Palo Alto for more than 20 years. He volunteered with the Aris Project, which serves the HIV-positive population in the Santa Clara Valley. He is survived by a sister, two nieces and a nephew. Jack W. Chinn
Jack W. Chinn, 63, a resident of Palo Alto, died
April 16, 1994. A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley Optometry School, he practiced for the last 28 years in Mountain View. He served in the U.S. Navy and was active in the Palo Alto Elks Lodge and the Santa Clara Optometric Society. He was former member and past president of the South Palo Alto Lion's Club. He is survived by his wife, Carole Chinn of Palo Alto; four sons; two sisters; and a brother. Evelyn West, a resident of Palo Alto for more than 50 years, died
April 7, 1994. She is survived by a daughter, Diana Moller of Palo Alto, and two granddaughters, Kimberly and Erika Moller of Palo Alto.
Fremont O. Zschokke
Fremont O. Zschokke, 87, a Palo Alto native and descendant of the city's first settler, died
April 25, 1994. A graduate of San Mateo Junior College and the University of California, he was the Palo Alto city surveyor until 1952. He then managed a cattle ranch for four years before becoming a construction engineer for the city of Campbell from 1957 to 1973. As he felt he was too young to retire, he started his own construction inspection business in Milpitas, inspecting jobs on his motorcycle until his retirement at the age of 82. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union, Local 3. He was the grandson of Anna Probst Zschokke, the city's first settler, who established the school system; and of Fremont Older, the editor in chief of the San Francisco Call Bulletin. He is survived by his wife, Irene A. "Bobbie" Zschokke; a son, Phillip B. Zschokke of Palo Alto; three daughters, including Sandra L. Williams of Palo Alto; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Adelaide Planz Bowden
Adelaide Planz Bowden, 90, died
at home in Palo Alto March 31, 1994. A native of Bakersfield, she was married
to the late Jerome Bowden, for whom Bowden Park in Palo Alto is named. She is survived by two daughters, including Marianne Bowden Bowers of Palo Alto; two grandchildren; a sister; two nieces; and three nephews. Florence Rowell Pettit
Florence Rowell Pettit, 79, a 20-year resident of Palo Alto, died
April 25, 1994. A native of Fresno, she was the wife of the late Dr. Joseph M. Pettit, dean of engineering at Stanford University. She is survived by two daughters, including Marjorie Pettit Wilbur of Palo Alto; a son, J. Roy Pettit of Stanford; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. May 8 at Ladera Community Church on Alpine Road in Portola Valley.
William Weaver Jr.
William Weaver Jr., 64, a Stanford professor of civil engineering for 25 years, died
April 28, 1994 of leukemia. A native of Sacramento, he graduated from the University of California, Berkeley and received his master's degree and doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for two years. He authored six textbooks and numerous papers in his field of structural engineering. After retiring from the faculty, he enjoyed golf, reading and travel for Kauai, where he had a vacation home. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, four sisters, two brothers and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. May 6 at the First Congregational Church, Louis and Embarcadero roads, Palo Alto. Theresa Aberth
Theresa Aberth, 60, a resident of Palo Alto for more than 30 years, died
April 22, 1994. She received bachelor's and master's degrees from the City University of New York and worked as a volunteer at the Terrace restaurant in Palo Alto. She is survived by her husband, William Aberth of Palo Alto; two daughters, including Diane Groberg of Palo Alto; and a son, George Aberth of Palo Alto.
Margaret Kempenich Boothe
Margaret Kempenich Boothe, 83, a 60-year resident of Palo Alto, died
April 28, 1994. Born in Holbrook, Ariz., she graduated from Stanford University in 1931. She was a member of Mu Chapter of Gamma Phi Beta, Theta Sigma Phi and the American Association of University Women. She was a supporter of the Committee for Art at Stanford, an amateur graphologist and a bridge player. She is survived by a son, a daughter, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A memorial luncheon will be held May 21 at Glenwood Inn, 555 Glenwood Ave., Menlo Park.
