Gloria M. Garcia, a 30-year-resident of Woodside, died
June 1, 1994 at Sequoia Hospital. She was 90. A native of Hawaii, she had lived in the Woodside-Redwood City are for 71 years. She and her husband owned and operated the Landmark Grocery Store in Redwood City from 1925 to 1957. She is survived by three sons, three sisters, three brothers, nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Thomas N. Cullen
Thomas N. Cullen, 81, a former resident of Menlo Park, died
June 7, 1994 after a long illness. He had been a resident of Redwood City for the past four years after living in Menlo Park since 1952. He was a newspaper executive, retiring in 1977 after working for the San Francisco office of the Texas Daily Press League, the New Call Bulletin and the San Francisco Chronicle and Examiner. He was a member of the Native Sons of the Golden West, Redwood Polar #66 and Sons of Italy Galileo Galilei #1950 of Redwood City. He was also a member of the South End Rowing Club of San Francisco, past president of St. Joseph's Fathers Club of Menlo Park and past president of Newspaper Advertising Sales Association of San Francisco. He is survived by a son, two sisters and two grandchildren. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. June 10 at Redwood Chapel, 847 Woodside Road, Redwood City, where funeral services also will be held at 10:30 a.m. A funeral mass will be said at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 3900 Middlefield Road, Menlo Park.
Joseph D. Schellinger
Joseph D. Schellinger, 75, a longtime resident of Palo Alto, died
June 2, 1994. A native of Palo Alto, he attended local schools and served in the U.S. Army during the occupation of Japan after World War II. After returning to Palo Alto, he was in the automobile business until his death. He is survived by his wife, Nadine Schellinger of Palo Alto; a brother; two nephews; and a niece. Dorothea Downer White
Dorothea Downer White, 89, a 40-year resident of Palo Alto, died
May 27, 1994 at Channing House. A native of Kansas, she was a graduate of Kansas State. During World War II as part of the war effort, she began raising turkeys, becoming one of the largest turkey producers in western Kansas. After moving to California, she was a longtime member of the Palo Alto League of Women Voters as well as a member and former president of local chapters of the PEO and Kappa Kappa Gamma. She was a participant in the Los Altos Forum. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ellen White of Palo Alto, and a grandson.
Herbert D. Goudzward
Herbert D. Goudzward, 86, a 40-year resident of Palo Alto, died
June 7, 1994 in Menlo Park. A native of Idaho, he worked for the Department of Labor and ran duplicate bridge clubs with his wife, Helen. He is survived by his daughter, Genie Alexander of Palo Alto, and three grandchildren.
Janice M. Bleil
Janice M. Bleil, 47, a resident of Palo Alto since 1970, died
Nov. 27, 1994, of cancer. She was founder and president of Qtrain Corporation, a company specializing in the application of the audiodigital technology she invented. A graduate of Michigan State University, she received her Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1980. She is survived by her husband James W. Corcoran of Palo Alto; her father; her sister; and two brothers. A memorial service is scheduled for Dec. 3, at 2 p.m., at Newman House, 1247 Cowper St., Palo Alto. John Edward Higgins
John Edward Higgins, 90, a resident of Menlo Park for 28 years, died
Nov. 22, 1994. Born in San Francisco, he spent most of his working years at sea. He served with the Army in World War II in the southwestern Pacific campaigns. Later he attended the Army's Command and General Staff School at Fort Leavenworth, and was assigned to the faculty at the end of World War II. He retired as chief purser of Matson Lines Trans Pacific Vessels. He is survived by his wife Joy Higgins of Menlo Park; five sons; and three grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent De Paul, St. Francis Center in Redwood City or to the S.P.C.A.
Gazelle E. Janzen Turrentine
Gazelle E. Janzen Turrentine, 86, a resident of Palo Alto and Menlo Park since 1948, died
Nov. 15, 1994. A graduate of Ohio State University, she worked as a librarian at Food Research Institute at Stanford University and then as a librarian at Menlo College until her retirement. She is survived by a son, Walter S. Janzen of Palo Alto; three granddaughters; two grandsons; and three great grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to any charity.

Virgil A. Anderson
Virgil A. Anderson, 95, a retired professor at Stanford University Medical School, died
Nov. 12, 1994 in Brookings, Ore. Born in McMinnville, Ore., he graduated from Willamette University, earned a masters degree from Stanford and received his doctorate from the University of Wisconsin. He also served in World War I. At Stanford, he taught speech correction from 1946 to 1965 in the department of speech pathology and audiology, authoring four books on the subject. Six years ago he moved from Stanford to Brookings, Ore. He is survived by a brother; a daughter; two grandsons; three granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.
