Fernando G. Gomez, 78, a 37-year resident of Atherton, died
June 26, 1994. He was a medical officer in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines. While he was there he survived the Batann Death March and two years in a POW camp. In 1946 he came to San Francisco and practiced obstetrics and gynecology until his retirement in 1991. He is survived by his wife, Helynne Gomez of Atherton; four daughters; four sons; a niece; and 19 grandchildren. A memorial mass will be said July 8 at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Nativity, 210 Oak Grove Ave., Menlo Park. John H. Steinhart Sr.
John H. Steinhart Sr., 77, a resident of Portola Valley, died
June 28, 1994. A native of San Francisco, he was a graduate of Stanford University Law School in 1941. He served as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was an attorney with Steinhart, Goldberg, Feigenbaum and Lader. He was a past president of the Jewish Community Federation of the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma counties; and of the Jewish Family Services agency. He also had been a director of Mount Zion Hospital in San Francisco and the Stanford Convalescent Home. He is survived by his wife, Helene T. Steinhart of Portola Valley; a daughter; four sons, including Peter Steinhart of Palo Alto, John Steinhart Jr. of Atherton and Steve Steinhart of Menlo Park; a sister; eight grandchildren; and a cousin. Elverna E. Christian, 95, a resident of Menlo Park for one year, died
June 29, 1994 after a short illness. A native of Iowa, she was a homemaker. She is survived by a daughter, a son, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Annie T. Sterrett, 94, a 10-year resident of Palo Alto, died
July 2, 1994 at Stanford Medical Center after a short illness. A native of Pennsylvania, she was a retired schoolteacher. She was a member of the Grove City O.E.S. #86 in Pennsylvania, the Menlo Park Presbyterian Church and the Presbyterian Women of Menlo Park Presbyterian Church. She is survived by three sons, including James Sterrett of Palo Alto; a daughter; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Florence Kennedy Carlson
Florence Kennedy Carlson, 84, a 26-year resident of Menlo Park, died
July 4, 1994 after a short illness. A native of Washington, D.C., she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of the Nativity in Menlo Park. She is survived by a daughter, Camilla A. Shroff of Atherton; and a son. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Agnes S. Evans, 86, a former resident of Palo Alto, died
July 10, 1994 in Los Altos. A native of Elk Horn, Iowa, she was a member of the Palo Alto Senior Center. She is survived by two sons; three daughters, including Jane Rowan of Palo Alto and Lynn Evans of Menlo Park; two sisters; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held July 26 at Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery
in Elk Horn, Iowa.

June 29, 1994. A native of New Bedford, Mass., she was a homemaker. She is survived by a daughter, Eleanor Hacking of Palo Alto; and two grandchildren, including James Van Campen of Palo Alto.

Antha Miller Crawford, 93, a 21-year Portola Valley resident, died
July 5, 1994 at Stanford Hospital of a cerebral hemorrhage. Born in Chicago, she graduated from Vassar College in 1921. She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening and sports. She is survived by a son; two daughters, including Constance Crawford of Palo Alto; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
James W. Moss
James W. Moss, 72, a resident of Palo Alto, died
July 10, 1994 at Stanford Hospital. He was an employee of the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center for 23 years. A native of Fourstates, W.Va., he is survived by his wife, Freddye Moss of Palo Alto; two daughters; two sons, James Moss Jr. and Jeffrey Moss of Palo Alto; a brother; a sister; and three grandchildren.
