Sister Gertrude Cutler, 80, an eight-year resident of Menlo Park, died
Sept. 14, 1994. A graduate of the State University of New York Colleges at Potsdam and Geneseo, she was a Franciscan Sister of the Atonement and a teacher. She is survived by three nephews, five nieces and many grandnephews and grandnieces.

Richard Kenneth Fox, 82, a former resident of Palo Alto, died
Sept. 15, 1994 in Red Bluff. A native of Visalia, he was a certified public accountant for 35 years. From 1945 to 1955 he has was the owner of Richard Fox CPA on University Avenue. He was a member of the Palo Alto Masonic Lodge and the California Society of CPAs. He is survived by his wife, a son, a daughter, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Anna Friedland, a resident of Menlo Park, died
Sept. 10, 1994. Born in Yonkers, N.Y., she owned a dress shop for 50 years there. She is survived by her daughter, Nathalie Gross of Menlo Park.

Sept. 14, 1994 at Stanford Medical Center. A native of Japan, he had been at Stanford for the last six months as a visiting professor. He is survived by his wife.
Joseph E. Olexo
Joseph E. Olexo, 72, a 35-year resident of Palo Alto, died
Sept. 13, 1994 of cancer. He was a native of Cleveland and a graduate of John Carroll University. He served in the Army during World War II and was an administrator at Lockheed Missiles and Space in Sunnyvale for 30 years, until he retired in 1989. He also was a member of the Senior Center of Palo Alto, sang in the Cupertino Choraliers and was a member of the Lockheed Dinosaurs. He is survived by his wife, Frances Higgins Olexo of Palo Alto; a daughter, Nancy; a son, Michael; and three sisters. Sept. 14, 1994 at his home. A native of New Jersey, he was an employee of David Bohannon Corporation for 53 years. He is survived by his wife, Marion Bell Schaeffer of Menlo Park; a son, Raymond Schaefer; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Florence M. VanDenburg, 96, a former resident of Menlo Park, died
Sept 11, 1994 at Ridgewood Care Center in Los Altos. A native of Chicago, she moved to California in 1940. She is survived by two nephews, including James E. Burch of Palo Alto.

Oscar Vargas, 10, a resident of East Palo Alto, died
Sept. 8, 1994 of a brain tumor. He was a student at Cesar Chavez Academy, where he was remembered as an excellent student. He was also a member of the school's band. He is survived by his parents, Feliciano and Luz Vargas; two sisters, Natividad and Rosa Moreno; and two brothers, Feliciano and Jorge Vargas, all of East Palo Alto. Roberta A. Devline
Roberta A. Devline, 73, died
Sept. 18, 1994. A native Californian and a longtime resident of Palo Alto, she was a registered nurse for more than 50 years in Palo Alto and Mountain View and was the treasurer of AAON, South Bay Chapter. She is survived by a daughter, Patti Graul; a son, Mike Devline; a sister; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial gathering will be held Sept. 24 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Los Altos United Methodist Church, 655 Magdalena Ave.
Ben Eckenhoff
Ben Eckenhoff, 51, died
Sept. 16, 1994 of leukemia. A resident of Los Altos, he served as an officer for five years in the U.S. Navy and worked for Alza Corp. in Palo Alto since 1973, eventually becoming a principal engineer, the company's highest scientific rank. He enjoyed sports and was active in Los Altos United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Eckenhoff; a daughter, Jenny; and a son, Jeff. Contributions can be made to the J.
