Katherine M. Ahlert, 89, a Menlo Park native who taught grade school in the area for 40 years, died
in Palo Alto on Feb. 3, 1994. A 1924 graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, she went on to teach at Woodside Grade School and St. Joseph's in Atherton. Frank A. Memmo, 70, a resident of Atherton for 30 years, died
at Stanford Hospital on Feb. 10, 1994 after a short illness. The Pennsylvania native was an electronics engineer with California Microwave. He is survived by two daughters, a son and a brother.

Rosalie Monahan, 93, a Palo Alto resident for 51 years, died
in Sacramento on Feb. 3, 1994. A native of South Dakota, she is survived by two sisters and a granddaughter.
Sister Marie Cecile O'Brodovich
Sister Marie Cecile O'Brodovich of Our Lady of the Rosary Convent in Palo Alto died
on Feb. 8, 1994. A native of Spokane, Wash., she spent many years as a teacher and student. She received a master's degree from St. Louis University. She came to Palo Alto in 1991 for her retirement. Services will be held at Our Lady of the Rosary Church on Feb. 18 at 8 a.m. Donations may be made to the Development Fund of the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, 3221 Cowper St., Palo Alto, CA 94306.
David A. Stevenson
David A. Stevenson, 65, a professor of materials science and engineering at Stanford, died
Feb. 6, 1994 of lung cancer. A resident of Los Altos Hills, he was also a triathlete who placed first in his age group in several Iron Man Competitions in Hawaii. The author of more than 150 scientific papers, he was an early advocate of compound semiconductors, which are now used widely in commercial microelectronics. A native of Albany, N.Y., he received degrees from Amherst College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He came to Stanford in 1958 after teaching in several Latin American institutes. He is survived by his wife, Fran Sherwood of Los Altos Hills; three children; and five grandchildren.
Myrene Cassel
Myrene Cassel, 94, a resident of Menlo Park for 20 years, died
at Sharon Heights Convalescent Hospital in Menlo Park on Feb. 5, 1994. A native of Renton, Wash., she was a retired executive secretary for the State Department in Washington, D.C. She is survived by a nephew.
Jean Gertridge Jones
Jean Gertridge Jones, 75, a longtime Palo Alto resident, died
at home Feb. 11, 1994. A native of Los Gatos and a graduate of the University of Washington, she worked for the American Red Cross during World War II. She was a member of the Junior League of Palo Alto, the Garden Club of Palo Alto and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Menlo Park. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Webster Jones Jr.; a son; two daughters; a brother, John Holmes Gertridge of Menlo Park; and five grandchildren. Donald S. Tong, 59, a Menlo Park resident for 30 years, died
in San Francisco on Feb. 15, 1994. A native of China, he was an engineer with Raychem Corp. and a member of the Church of the Nativity in Menlo Park. He is survived by his wife, Edna Tong of Menlo Park; his son Christopher Tong of Menlo Park; his mother; a brother; and a sister. Friends may visit after noon Feb. 18 at Campagna & Spangler Menlo Park Mortuary, 650 Live Oak Ave., Menlo Park, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be said Feb. 19 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Nativity, 210 Oak Grove Ave., Menlo Park. Virginia S. Ziegler
Virginia S. Ziegler, 54, a longtime resident of Palo Alto, died
Feb. 5, 1994 after a yearlong fight with cancer. A registered dietitian with San Mateo County for the past five years, she worked at Crystal Springs Rehabilitation Center, the San Mateo AIDS clinics, and the county jail. She held degrees from the University of California, Berkeley and San Jose State University. She was active in the Palo Alto schools, volunteered for KQED and was a member of the American Association of University Women. She is survived by her husband, David Ziegler of Palo Alto; a son; two daughters; and a brother. Services will be held Feb. 19 at 3 p.m. at First Unitarian Church, 505 East Charleston Road, Palo Alto. Joyce Breiseth, 85, a Palo Alto resident for 11 years, died
Feb. 14, 1994 in Oakland. A native of Minneapolis and a graduate of the University of Minnesota, she is survived by a daughter, Nan Bentley of Palo Alto; four sons; nine grandchildren, including Heather and Karen Bentley of Palo Alto; and a great-grandson.

John B. Deans, 64, a sales manager who had lived in Palo Alto since 1977, died
in Santa Clara on Feb. 15, 1994. A Pennsylvania native, he was a deacon at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Palo Alto. He is survived by his wife, Karen Hastings Deans of Palo Alto; four sons, including Thomas G. Deans of Palo Alto; three daughters; a brother; and 11 grandchildren.
