Sue Bolender Detwiler, 68, a lifetime resident of Palo Alto, died
Oct. 1, 1994 of emphysema. She graduated from Palo Alto High School in 1943 and attended the University of Wisconsin and San Jose State University. During World War II she worked for Hiller Helicopter Co. in Palo Alto, and most recently she worked for USF & G Insurance Co. She was active in local fox hunting groups. She is survived by a sister, Nan Bolender Blackledge of Palo Alto; two daughters; a granddaughter; two nephews; four nieces; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Scott Dimmick
Scott Dimmick, 44, a 17-year resident of Atherton, died
Oct. 18, 1994 of a sudden illness. A manufacturing engineer with Quantum Corp., he was a member of the Christian Science Church in Menlo Park. He is survived by his wife, Jackie Leonard-Dimmick of Atherton; two brothers, including David Dimmick of Los Altos Hills; and his mother and father. A funeral service will be held Oct. 21 at 10 a.m. at Campagna & Spangler Mortuary, 650 Live Oak Ave., Menlo Park.
Austin Mosher
Austin Mosher, 99, a resident of Menlo Park, died
Oct. 12, 1994 in Menlo Park. Born in Santa Cruz, he attended the University of the Pacific and University of California, Berkeley, before going to Milan, Italy, for vocal training from Maestro Borgatti in the 1920s. Later he returned to the United States and became a featured baritone soloist with NBC Radio. He also established a successful voice studio and became a prominent baritone, voice teacher, pianist and conductor in San Francisco. Most notably, he directed several Gilbert and Sullivan Operattas at the old Bush Street Theater. He was also a member of the list of 50 at the Bohemian Club for the last 50 years, the Musician's Union, the San Francisco Rotary Club, the Kiwanis Club, the California Lodge and the Family Club. He is survived by two daughters; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson. A memorial service is planned for Nov. 11 at 1 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 2323 Euclid Drive, Redwood City.

Mildred D. Pettigrew, 85, a 40-year resident of Palo Alto before moving to Kahuku, Hawaii, in 1990, died
Oct. 18, 1994 in Kailua, Hawaii. She is survived by her husband, Bruce C. Pettigrew; two sons; and six grandchildren.
Jozo Tomasevich
Jozo Tomasevich, 86, a 48-year resident of Palo Alto, died
Oct. 15, 1994. Born in Croatia, he came to the United States on a school fellowship and settled here after World War II. He became a professor of economics at San Francisco State University in 1948, retiring as professor emeritus in 1973. He published two books on economic and political change in modern Yugoslavia, and was completing a third book, scheduled to appear next year, when he died. He was honored for his academic contributions by the American Association for the Advancement of Slavic Studies in 1989. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Neda Tomasevich of Palo Alto; three children; three grandchildren; a brother; and nieces and nephews. A memorial service is scheduled at the Palo Alto Cultural Center, 1313 Newell Road, on Nov. 11 at 2 p.m.

Peter Castle, 38, a former resident of Palo Alto, died
Sept. 28, 1994 in Spokane, Wash., after suffering a pulmonary embolism. He graduated from Cubberley High School in 1974 and moved to Spokane in 1980, where he graduated from Eastern Washington State University and worked in the telemarketing industry. Virginia Martha Gray Herlinger, 84, a Palo Alto and Los Altos resident for nearly 60 years, died
Oct. 21, 1994. Born in Shelbyville, Ind., she attended college in Oklahoma City. She worked for the Palo Alto School District and enjoyed traveling, history, needlework and her family. She is survived by two sons, James Herlinger of Portola Valley and David Herlinger; a daughter, Jane Swenson; and three grandchildren.

The Rev. Leon A. Kief, 81, a former resident of Palo Alto, died
in Tuscon, Ariz. He worked as a chaplain for the Veterans Administration Hospital of Palo Alto for nine years before retiring in Tuscon in 1978.

Oct. 14, 1994 at Stanford Medical Center. Born in Connecticut, she was a registered nurse at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Palo Alto and a member of the American Nurses Association. She is survived by her husband, William A. Hall of Palo Alto; her mother; a sister; and five stepchildren, including Diana F. Hall of Palo Alto. Memorial services will be held Oct. 30 at 4 p.m. at the Unitarian Church of Palo Alto, 505 Charleston Road. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
