Funeral services were held today at St. Joseph Church for Walter A. Fagan, who died
on Sept. 6. Born in Greenleaf, KS in 1919, Fagan was a longtime resident of Mountain View, where he opened Walter A. Fagan Co. Interiors and Floor Coverings on Castro Street. He was the father of six, an active parishioner in St. Joseph's Church, and a member of the Mountain View Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Business Association and Civitan. It was those three loves -- his family, his faith community, and his business -- to which Fagan committed his energy.
He is survived by 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, as well as his widow, Dolores, of Mountain View. The family respectfully requests any donations be made to St. Joseph Church Renovation Fund or any other charity of your choosing.

Don Schaefer
Funeral services were held earlier this month for Don Schaefer, former recreation supervisor for the City of Mountain View.
Donald Schaefer, 66, passed away Sept. 15 doing what he loved most: fishing on the Klamath River in Northern California. He and his wife of 36 years, Jere, lived between Mountain View and Klamath over the last 20 years.
Schaefer was born
Oct. 27, 1935, in Santa Rosa. His career in Mountain View spanned more than 30 years; as recreation supervisor he ran the city's youth, senior center and tennis programs. He started the Mountain. View Tennis Club and ran tournaments for boys and girls, as well as the national hardcourt tournaments for 12-year-old girls. He was on the Northern California Tennis Board and was one of four to receive an award for dedication to junior tennis in Northern California. Don most recently helped coached the Del Norte High School Girls' Tennis team in Crescent City.
Survivors included his wife, Jere; brother Bill; mother-in-law, Andrea Klein; brother-in-law, Mike Klein; nephews Michael, Brandon and Matthew and nieces Stephanie and Veronica.

Georgina "George" Blach
Georgina "George" Blach, oldest of Blach children
A rosary was held in Los Altos Wednesday for Georgina Blach, who passed away Oct. 5 at age 82. She was the oldest of 12 children born
to Georgina Blach, for whom Blach Intermediate School is named. The family also founded Blach Construction Company. She is survived by her brother, Jim Blach (owner of Clarke's Charcoal Broiler), and seven other siblings.
A Mountain View resident, Blach was born
in San Francisco where she graduated from Lone Mountain University. She was a lay missionary for many years at a hospital in Panama, said Jim. Upon returning to the Bay Area, Blach taught Spanish at Blach School.
She was a member of the Junipero Serra Club and a parishioner and secretary at St. William's Catholic Church in Los Altos. "She was very devoted to her calling, her religious feeling," said Jim.

Alfred Tisch
Alfred Tisch, stockbroker and arts supporter
Services were held at the Los Altos United Methodist Church in Los Altos today for Alfred E. Tisch, longtime resident of Los Altos and Mountain View. He died
at home on Oct. 1 from cancer.
Tisch was a stockbroker and financial adviser in Santa Clara for 41 years and a member of the Bohemian Club in San Francisco. He and his late wife, Joanne, were active supporters of the Bus Barn Stage Company (formerly L'ACT) and the Los Altos Library. He is survived by daughters Linda Sivertsen and Carol Allen, and grandson Tosh Sivertsen of Los Angeles.

Dan Romano
Services were held Nov. 11 at Roller, Hapgood and Tinney Funeral Home in Palo Alto for Dan Romano, who died
Nov. 8 at the age of 91. A funeral mass was held the following day at St. Athanasius Church. A native of Italy and a Mountain View resident for 17 years after his retirement from a career as a contractor in New Jersey, Romano is survived by Carmela, his wife of 63, son John Romano and his wife Susan of Palo Alto, granddaughter Shannon, and many nieces and nephews.
Burial will take place at St. Peters Cemetery, New Brunswick, New Jersey. The Romano family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Walter Liewer
Services were held Friday, Nov. 8 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Los Altos for Walter Liewer, an aircraft technician and long-time Los Altan, died
Tuesday at age 90. A Nebraska native, Liewer was a high school football star. He attended South Dakota State University in 1930 and 1931 until the Depression hit.
Liewer enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was transferred from the Midwest to Moffett Field in 1939. While stationed at Moffett, he met and married
Lucille Bleibler Baxter, a member of one of Los Altos' founding families. The couple was married
in December 1941, following the attack on Pearl Harbor. Last December they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Following the war, Liewer joined his wife at her present Cherry Avenue home. Trained in aircraft mechanics, he became a member of the fledgling NACA Space Group in 1945 When NASA was born
he participated in wind tunnel experiments and served as a liaison between NASA and Ames Laboratory until his retirement in 1972.
Liewer is survived by his wife, Lucille Liewer; son Richard; daughter Marilou; grandchildren Jeremy and Nicholas Liewer; and Alden and Patricia Swanton; brother John; and sister, Helen.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that remembrances be donated to St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 473 Lincoln Avenue, Los Altos, 94022.

Donald L. Carey
Services were held at Spangler Mortuary on Aug. 31 for Donald L. Carey, a Mountain View resident and teacher in the Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District for 34 years.
Born March 27, 1933, in Oregon, Carey moved to Chico as a child and graduated from California State University, Chico, in 1958. He served two years with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and then received his Masters Degree from California State University, San Jose.
From 1967 to 1993, Carey taught business and economics at Awalt High School and the old and new Mountain View and Los Altos High Schools. In addition to teaching, "Mr. C." coached Bobby Sox Softball, PAL and AYSO Soccer for both boys and girls -- most recently coaching an AYSO youth team with his daughter.
Active in retirement, Carey enjoyed duck hunting with his son, hiking, tennis, travel, World War II history, and most recently, scuba diving. He took a special delight in his grandsons' sports and school activities.
He is survived by Jan, his wife of 49 years; son Bob of Atascadero; daughter Lissa Evans of Mountain View; grandchildren Jacob and Austin Evans and Andrea Fernandez; and sister Judy Clemens of Barstow.

Bertha Mary Bulash
Services were held Oct. 9 at Cusimano Family Colonial Mortuary and Oct. 10 at St. Joseph Church for Bertha Bulash.
A devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and wife, a native of Johnstown, PA and a 47-year resident of Mountain View, Bulash was married
to husband Joe for 62 years. Bulash was preceded in death by her 10 brothers and sisters; she was 85. She is survived by sons John and Joey; daughter Mary Jo Geyer; grandchildren Larry and Matt Geyer and Lance and Peter Bulash; and great-grandchildren Stephanie, Courtney and Ashley Geyer. Kenneth Thompson Prior
Services were held Nov. 14th at the Los Altos United Methodist Church for Kenneth T. Prior.
A longtime south Palo Alto resident, Prior passed away Nov. 10 after a brief illness. He was 76.
Born on Jan. 6, 1926 in San Bernardino, Prior enrolled at Stanford and dropped out after his freshman year, to join the Navy during World War II as a radio operator. He completed his degree in 1950 and met his future wife while working at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
He moved back to Palo Alto and resided in Barron Park for 48 years, working for Ampex Corporation for 30 years. In his retirement he enjoyed travel and spending time with his grandchildren.
Prior is survived by Lois, his wife of 49 years; sons Thomas of Sacramento and Christopher of Palo Alto and daughter Marquerite Fisher of Mountain View and 11 grandchildren.
