Joseph John Bulash Sr., 87, died
in Mountain View Dec. 30. A Johnstown, Pa. native and World War II Army veteran, Bulash moved to Mountain View in 1950. He owned Bulash Ceilings and was a partner and owner of the Penguin Cafe in San Francisco.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Mary. He is survived by sister Frances "Toots;" son John; daughter Mary Jo; son Joey; grandchildren Larry, Matt Lance, and Peter; and three great grandchildren.
A vigil was held Jan. 4 at Cusimano Family Colonial Mortuary, followed by a funeral mass on Jan. 5 at St. Joseph's Church. Bulash was interred at Gate of Heaven.

Lena Marie Alameda
Lena Marie Alameda, 105, died
in Milpitas on Dec 26.
A native of Centerville (now Fremont), Alameda lived in Mountain View for 80 years. She worked as a clerk at Wagner's Drug Store and was treasurer for the Young Ladies Institute for 60 years. She was a member of Saint Joseph's Church and a lifelong member of the Mountain View Historical Association.
Alameda never married
and had no children. She is survived by nieces and nephews, grandnephews, and great-grandnieces and nephews.
A memorial was held Jan. 21 at Villa Sienna.

Marian F. Roberts
Marian "Robbie" Roberts, 90, died
in Los Altos on Jan. 19.
A native of New Castle, Indiana, Roberts moved to Los Altos 43 years ago. She helped establish the Foothill College nursing program and served as chair of the Chico State University nursing program. After retirement she taught English to non-English speaking families at Mountain View's St. Timothy's Episcopal Church and volunteered with the American Red Cross and the Santa Maria Urban Mission.
She will be greatly missed by her friend and companion of 54 years, Marian Miller.
A memorial service was held Jan. 24 at St. Timothy's Church. Memorials may be made to Santa Maria Urban Ministries of San Jose, 778 South Almaden Ave., San Jose, CA 905110 or a charity of choice.

Mardeen Smith
Mardeen Smith, 80, died
in Mountain View on Jan. 22.
A native of West Virginia, Smith worked as a bus driver for the Whisman School District. She was a member of The Order of The Eastern Star and the White Shrine of Jerusalem.
She is survived by husband Walter and daughter Sharon.

Bernice Delores Schmidt
Bernice Schmidt, 89, died
in Mountain View on Jan. 24.
Schmidt was born
to a Mountain View pioneer family and was raised on the family apricot ranch on Calderon Avenue in old Mountain View. She attended Mountain View High School and San Jose State University and worked as a stenographer for Pacific Gas and Electric's Mountain View office for 35 years. She was a polio survivor, having contracted the disease in 1956, one month before the vaccine was introduced to the public.
Schmidt is survived by daughter Carol, grandson Ric and sister Laverna. Her husband Carl Schmidt, who was also a Mountain View native, predeceased her in 1980.
Services will be held Jan. 30 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mountain View Chapel of Spangler Mortuaries, 799 Castro St. Donations may be made to the Sempervirens Fund Drawer BE, Los Altos, CA 95402 or a charity of choice.

Dorothy Janice Forencich
Dorothy Janice Forencich, 78, died
in Mountain View on Feb. 2. Forencich was a native of Wilkes Barre, Pa. She is survived by children Jane, Frances and Catherine; grandchildren John, Jeanette, Richard, Kristina, Nicole and Jennifer; and great-grandchildren Jessica, Ciara, Kandace, William, Madison, Briana and Andrew. She is preceded in death by husband George.

Mickey Galdrige
Mickey Galdrige, 72, died
in San Jose on March 1. An Oahu, Hawaii native and Korean War navy veteran, Galdrige was a longtime Mountain View resident. He was a member of the Spanish Heritage Club of Santa Clara and the American Legion Post of Los Altos.
Galdrige is survived by wife Esther of 49 years; children Peter and Robbie; grandchildren Ryan, Michael and Jeffery; and siblings Alfred, John, Frances and Henry.
Memorial services were held on March 5 at the Cusimano Family Colonial Mortuary.

David O. Krantz
David O. Krantz, 59, died
March 26.
A Mountain View resident of 17 years, Krantz was a native of Medford Lakes, New Jersey. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and worked as a teacher, author, editor, school psychologist, publishing executive, and educational activist for special education reform.
Krantz published the newsletters Parents Educating Parents and Special Education Observer and wrote Taming the IEP. At the time of his death, he was CEO and board chair of CPP, Inc. in Palo Alto.
Krantz is survived by his wife Jackie, children Katy and Bill, mother Adele and brother Matthew.

William Atwood
Services for William Atwood, 79, who died
May 5 in Sonora, were held Tuesday at Spangler Mortuaries in Mountain View. A Sonora resident, Atwood served in the Navy during World War II and the Air Force during the Korean War. He had 22 years of military experience and was also a retired shipping clerk. He was preceded in death by his wife, Femanda, and daughter, Anita Walters, and is survived by children Alice Davis and Kenneth Atwood of Sonora, Richard Laino of Walled Lake, Mich., Paul Laino of Wheatland, Calif., 16 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and his niece, Linda Marcel.
