The Wears moved to Menlo Park in 1946, and Wear's prowess at political campaigning helped guide six City Council candidates into office. She also served on the state and San Mateo County Republican Central Committees and was a co-founder of the Menlo Park Republican Caucus. She worked locally on Ronald Reagan's first presidential campaign.
Wear was a charter member of the local chapter of the American Association of University Women, the Ladera Oaks Swim and Tennis Club and the local PEO sisterhood.
