Services will be Friday for Diane Mary Rodgers, who died of cancer Wednesday at Watsonville Community Hospital. She was 68.
Mrs. Rodgers was born in San Jose and moved to Watsonville as an infant. She graduated from Moreland Notre Dame Academy.
She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church and the altar society there. She dedicated her life to raising her family and helping others.
Mrs. Rodgers is survived by her husband of 43 years, Milton Rodgers of Watsonville; son Dan Rodgers of Watsonville; daughters Christy Rodgers and Claudia Dalton of San Jose; and two grandchildren.
A combination rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Our Lady Help of Christian Church. Burial will follow at Valley Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3-9 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel, 222 E. Lake Ave., Watsonville.

Marie Bates
Private services will be later for Marie B. Bates, who died Sunday in Santa Cruz. She was 90.
Mrs. Bates was born in Hanford and grew up in Berkeley. She had lived in Santa Cruz for the past 10 years.
After receiving a bachelor’s degree in history from UC Berkeley, she worked as an office manager for Crocker Bank in Carmel, and was also manager of the Carmel Art Association for more than 30 years.
Mrs. Bates enjoyed walking, hiking and all aspects of nature.
She is survived by son Barry Bates of Felton; sister Marge Olsen of Lafayette; brother Bill Brailsford of Walnut Creek; and two grandsons.
Arrangements are by Santa Cruz Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Roy Garlinger
As his request, no services are planned for Roy O. Garlinger, who died Saturday in Watsonville. He was 85.
Mr. Garlinger was born in Azusa.
He is survived by wife Annie Garlinger of Watsonville; daughters Hazel A. Schafer of Salinas and Hazel D. Davis of Tuolumne City; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Burial will be private.
Arrangements are by Davis Memorial Chapel of Watsonville.

Charles Rodgers
Services will be Friday for Charles W. Rodgers, who died Saturday at his home in Lathrop. He was 63.
Mr. Rodgers was born in Ripley, Okla. and raised in Santa Cruz, where he lived for more than 20 years. He recently lived in Cape Hatteras, N.C. for two years before moving to Lathrop two weeks ago.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam wars, retiring in 1982. He worked for San Lorenzo Lumber in Santa Cruz and recently at K.O.A. Campgrounds in Cape Hatteras.
Mr. Rodgers enjoyed bowling and fishing.
He is survived by wife, Brenda Rodgers of Lathrop; daughters Jean Rodgers of Lathrop and Sandra Brookman of Watsonville; sons Allen Rodgers of Clearfield, Utah, and Steven Rodgers of Layton, Utah; sister Virginia Mello of Capitola; and 10 grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Salvation Army, 1305 E. Weber St., Stockton. Burial will be private.
Arrangements are by P.L. Fry and Son.

Theresa Dawal
Services will be Saturday for Theresa A. Dawal, who died Sunday. She was 75.
Mrs. Dawal was born in Kahuku Oahu, Hawaii, and raised in Union City. She had lived in Watsonville for the past 45 years.
She was a longtime member of the local Jehovah’s Witnesses congregation, and had served as a full-time minister since 1987.
Mrs. Dawal enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by sons Teodorico and Robert Dawal of Watsonville, John Agraviador of Union City and Steven Dawal of Lawrenceville, Ga.; daughters Frances Valenzuela of Bakersfield, Tammie Kraner of Troutdale, Ore., Christine Dingus of Santa Cruz and Cheryl Caplett of Montebello; sisters Helen Sevilla, Dardene Sibonga and Erlene Falsken; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Briccio Dawal, died before her.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 480 Green Valley Road, Watsonville.
Arrangements are by Davis Memorial Chapel in Watsonville.

James McPherson
Private graveside services will be held for James D. McPherson, who died Saturday in Santa Cruz after a long illness. He was 47.
Mr. McPherson was born and raised in Santa Cruz.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Coral Sea. He recently worked as a long-haul truck driver for Vida Lines.
Mr. McPherson enjoyed playing golf and fishing, especially with his twin nephews, Rob and Scott, and his dog pal, Kyla. He also enjoyed B-1 league fast-pitch softball.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Tres Pueblos Post No. 7263 and served on the VFW Honor Guard.
Mr. McPherson is survived by mother Mabel McPherson of Santa Cruz; brother Robert McPherson Jr. of Santa Cruz; sisters Jeanne Young of Capitola and Phyllis Bonds of Santa Cruz; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His father, Robert McPherson Sr., died in 1994.
Burial will be at Santa Cruz Memorial Park.
Arrangements are by Santa Cruz Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Kenneth Nilsen
Services will be Tuesday for Kenneth "Ken" Edward Nilsen, who died Sunday in a car accident near Stockton. He was 47.
His daughter Kari Nilsen also was killed in the accident.
Mr. Nilsen was a California native, and had lived in Santa Cruz for 13 years. He was an insurance claims adjuster for 20 years, and a member of the Central Coast Adjusters Association.
He also was a member of Hope Lutheran Church of San Mateo, and the Norwegian Seamans Church of San Francisco.
A golf lover, Mr. Nilsen belonged to the Northern California Golf Association, Rancho Canada Golf Club, and Seascape Golf Club. He also loved motorcycles, skiing, bicycling and bowling, though his main interest was family.
Family members said he will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend.
Mr. Nilsen is survived by wife Lynn B. Nilsen; daughter Krista Ann Nilsen of Santa Cruz; parents Inga and Wilhelm Nilsen of San Carlos; brothers Kurt Nilsen of Los Gatos and John Nilsen of Belmont; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oakwood Memorial Crystal Chapel, 3301 Paul Sweet Road, Santa Cruz. Services for his daughter will be conducted at the same time.
Graveside services will follow.
Arrangements are by Oakwood.
