Frank J. ‘Nick’ Carter
Services have been held for Frank J. "Nick" Carter, who died at his Corralitos home July 24. He was 84.
Mr. Carter was born in Palo Alto.
He is survived by his wife, Antoinette "Toni"; son, Christopher Carter in Menlo Park; and daughter, Mary Louise Carter in Ruston, La.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Sequoia High School Alumni Association, P.O. Box 2534, Redwood City, CA 94064-2534 or Mathews Family ALS Fund, Forbes-Norris MDA-ALS, P.O. Box 7999, San Francisco, CA 94120-7999.
Arrangements were made by Oakwood Memorial Chapel.

Carmen De Muth
Services will be private for Carmen De Muth, who died July 26. She was 91.
Ms. De Muth was a native of Fall City, Wash. She had been a resident of Santa Cruz for 15 years.
She enjoyed reading mystery books.
She is survived by daughters Karen De Muth of Palo Alto and Debby De Muth of Soquel; and three grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Santa Cruz County Animal Services, 27 Janice Way, Scotts Valley, CA 95066.
Arrangements are by Oakwood Memorial Chapel.

MADELINE L. ANTONICIC
Passed away peacefully July 29, 2003 in Santa Cruz, CA at the age of 79. A native of Santa Clara County, she moved to Scotts Valley in 1987. She was a homemaker, businesswoman, an avid gardener and community volunteer.
Daughter of the late Fred and Julia Gonsalves, native of Madeira, Portugal. Sister of the late Genevieve Antonicic and Gayle Gonsalves. Wife of the late Walter Antonicic. Loving mother of Paulette McLain of Felton, Eric, Greg, and Mark Antonicic of Santa Cruz. Beloved grandmother of Riley Antonicic.
A tireless volunteer for 53 years for the American Legion Post 419 and V.A. Hospital in Palo Alto. She was honored as the National VAVS 2000 Volunteer of the year, she logged over 50,000 hours of service.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service Saturday, August 16th, 2003 at 11 am at the Lima Family Santa Clara Mortuary, 466 N. Winchester Blvd., Santa Clara. The family prefers donations to The Carmelite Monastery, 1000 Lincoln St., Santa Clara, CA 95050 or the Madeline Antonicic Memorial Fund for the VA Blind Center, 3801 Miranda Ave., Palo Alto, CA 94304.

Fenner Frederick Angell
No services will be held for Fenner Frederick Angell, who died Friday in Bend, Ore. He was 82.
Mr. Angell was born in Modesto to Clarence and Roxy before the family moved to Santa Cruz.
Mr. Angell graduated from Santa Cruz High School, where he was a star athlete in track and football. He also attended San Jose State.
Mr. Angell marriage Bonnie Ball in 1941. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy and took part in numerous combat operations in the South Pacific, including the battle of Iwo Jima. In 1948, he started the Pacific Lumber Co. in Soquel, which he sold in 1970.
Mr. Angell loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, golfing and boating. He and his wife also sailed from Alaska to Mexico.
Mr. Angell moved to Oregon in 2002 to be closer to family.
He is survived by sons Ron of Sunriver, Ore., and Mark of Kauai, Hawaii; daughter Nancy Hoiem of Maui, Hawaii; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. His wife died before him.
Contributions are preferred to Central Oregon Hospice, 2698 NE Courtney Drive, Bend, OR 97701. Arrangements are by Autumn Funerals.

Rosie Cardoza
Services will be Wednesday for Rosie Cardoza, who died at her Watsonville home Thursday after a brief illness. She was 82.
Mrs. Cardoza was born in Dos Palos and moved to Watsonville when she was a child. She belonged to the Valley Catholic Church, the I.S.T.W., the S.P.R.S.I. and the Benevolent Society.
She is survived by son Manuel Jr. of Camino; daughters Linda Erbe of Watsonville, Rose Marie Bianchi of Hollister and Amy Johnston of Salisbury, Md.; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Her husband, Manuel Sr., died before her.
A Rosary and Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Valley Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Watsonville Cemetery. Visitation is from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel.

Hildeliza Paz Valencia
Services will be Tuesday for Hildeliza Paz Valencia, who died Friday in her Watsonville home after a long illness. She was 74.
Mrs. Valencia was a native of San Pedro Tesistan, Jalisco, Mexico. She came to Watsonville in 1972.
She is survived by sons Pedro, Ignacio Jr. and Jorge, all of Watsonville; daughters Irene Cisneros, Maria Esther Navarro, Rosa Gradilla and Yolanda Romero, all of Watsonville, and Vickie Martinez of Madera; brothers Ezequiel Paz of Watsonville and Ramiro Paz of Mexicali; sisters Guadalupe Villaron of Watsonville and Dolores Valencia of Mexico; many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and caretaker and daughter-in-law Yolanda Valencia. Her husband, Ignacio Sr., and sister Consuelo Hernadez died before her.
A Rosary will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Valley Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Valley Church. Burial will follow at Valley Public Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. Tuesday at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel.

Beatrice P. Tarkington
Services will be Wednesday for Beatrice P. Tarkington, who died Thursday at Watsonville Community Hospital. She was 87.
Mrs. Tarkington was born in Oklahoma and lived in Santa Cruz County for many years. She worked for the Pajaro Valley School District and as a drapery seamstress for Home Interiors. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Watsonville.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years William C. Tarkington of Watsonville; son Stanley Tarkington of Hollister; daughter Carol Bailey of Sacramento; sister Alice Freeborn of San Jose; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, 101 Madison St., Watsonville.
Private Burial will be Pajaro Valley Memorial Park.
Contributions are preferred to the First Baptist Church, 101 Madison, Watsonville, CA 95076, or to the American Cancer Society, 1555 Soquel Drive, Santa Cruz, CA 95065.
Arrangements are by Davis Memorial Chapel.

Ann Miljas
Services will be Thursday for Ann Miljas, who died Sunday at Watsonville Community Hospital after a six-month illness. She was 93.
A native of Watsonville, Miss Miljas was secretary for Hardin Farms in Salinas for many years before she retired.
She was a member of the Watsonville Woman’s Club, the Corralitos Woman’s Club, the Young Lady’s Institute, the Slavic-American Cultural Organization, and St. Patrick’s Church.
She is survived by sister Katherine Wilson of Daly City, and nephew Steve Wilson of Clearlake Oaks.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Church. Burial will follow in the family vault at Watsonville Catholic Cemetery. Friends may call 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel, 222 E. Lake Ave., Watsonville.

Harrison H. Ragsdale
No services are planned for Harrison H. Ragsdale, who died Friday in Santa Cruz. He was 80.
Born in Capitola, he graduated from Santa Cruz High School in 1941. He served four years in the Navy during World War II. He was a motor machinist first class petty officer on several ships in the Pacific Theatre.
He retired from the Pacific Telephone Co. after 31 years. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Communications Workers of America, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the First Congregational Church. He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors, and was an avid gardener.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Caroline Ragsdale of Santa Cruz, sons Mark Ragsdale of Wellington, Ala., Brad Ragsdale of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Scott Ragsdale of Heflin, Ala., four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a nephew.
No services are planned. Santa Cruz Memorial Park is in charge of arrangements.
Contributions are preferred to the SPCA or to a favorite charity.
