Services will be Tuesday in Colma, for Josephine Kleyn who passed away peacefully in Santa Cruz on December 20, 2003. Born in San Francisco, she was 94 years old.
Mrs. Kleyn has resided in the Boulder Creek area for the past 55 years. An accomplished Bridge player, she loved playing with various ladies groups. Her family will forever remember her passion for reading and the many books she would share with family and friends. Until her health began to fail, she was a regular parishioner of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Boulder Creek. She is survived by her daughters, JoAnn Perryman of Daly City and Carolyn Kleyn of Boulder Creek. She also leaves her sister, Marie Giannini of San Francisco; two grandchildren, Scott and Tracy; and three great grandchildren, Ava, Hannah, and Lilah. Mrs. Kleyn was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Kleyn, former fire chief of the Boulder Creek Fire Department.

KRISTIN ANN (BELCHER) PEREGRINA
Peregrina, Kristin Ann (Belcher), born in Watsonville, CA on March 10, 1956, passed away in Auburn, CA on December 14, 2003.
Loving wife of Larry; loving mother of Jenna and Chelsey Peckham; loving stepmother of Brian and Brittany Peregrina; beloved daughter of Jim and Janis Belcher of Aptos, CA and Karalyn and Wayne Hall, of Sun City West, AZ; beloved sister of Mike Belcher of Lodi CA; best niece ever of David & Sam Megason.
Kris was the sunshine in anyone’s life she met. A smile that lit up a room. A laugh that was contagious. An attitude for love and life that was admired by all. An excellent gardener, cook and interior decorator. A women of many talents who will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.
Kris has left us, Our hearts ache, Memories will have to do. Until we meet again.
Following Kris’s wishes, no services are planned at this time. A celebration of life and a remembrance of love and laughter will be scheduled in late February or early March at Lake of the Pines, Auburn, CA.

Raymond E. Geyon
Friends may call today for Raymond E. Geyon, who died Saturday at Watsonville Community Hospital. He was 76.
Mr. Geyon was born in Watsonville and attended schools there before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Geyon spent 40 years working for the county Public Works Department as a heavy equipment operator and supervisor for the drainage division. He retired in 1990.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Geyon of Watsonville; half-brother Joe Gonzales of Kansas; half-sister Patricia Morgan of Los Lomas; an uncle; and many nieces and nephews. His parents and a half-sister died before him.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Davis Memorial Chapel.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park.

ESTELLE PEYTON ROWLEY RILEY
Estelle Peyton Rowley Riley 95, a homemaker, died Sunday, December 14 at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz. She was 95 years old.
Born on July 19, 1908 in San Francisco, she lived the last 25 years in Santa Cruz. She was the granddaughter of a pioneer Santa Cruz family. Her grandfather, Bernard Peyton, was the general manager of the California Powder Works. Her father, Arthur Peyton, was born at the family home at the Powder Works now off Highway 9. She spent her childhood in San Mateo, Ca. and attended Miss Hasher School for Girls in Palo Alto, San Mateo Jr. College and San Francisco School of Fine Arts. After her marriage to John Stuart Rowley in 1929, they moved to Alhambra, CA. where they raised their children. In 1957 they moved back to San Mateo. Her husband, John died in 1968. She then met and marriage Thomas Riley in 1974 and they moved to Santa Fe, N.M. After Thomas’ passing in 1976, she moved back to Santa Cruz in 1978.
She had a lifelong love of art and literature, gardening, traveling and the outdoors. She belonged to the Sierra Club and volunteered at the Museum of Art & History. She kept up on everything that was going on in the World and lived an independent life at her own home until the last day. She is deeply missed by her whole family.
A private celebration of her life will be held at a future date in January of 2004.
Estelle is survived by her 3 children, William Rowley of Anchorage, AK; David Rowley of Santa Cruz and Mary Lent of Monterey. She is also survived by her stepson, Craig Riley of Orinda, 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

MR. JOHN "JACK" THOMPSON
Mr. John "Jack" Thompson passed away on Sunday in Santa Cruz after a lengthy illness. He was 83 years old.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Thompson of Santa Cruz, son John Lee Thompson of Santa Barbara and daughter, Lynn Connors of Brentwood and three grandchildren, Wendy, David and Kimberly; his grandson, Christopher Connors passed away in 1986. Also survived by 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his four brothers, Michael and Alfred Thompson of Visalia, Richard Thompson of North Plains, Oregon and Emmett Thompson of Scotts Valley, his sister, Gerry Kadlubosky of Reno, Nevada, and half-brother Richard Carney of Saugus, CA. he is preceded in death by his sister, Lettie Urbani who passed away in 2001.
A native of San Jose, CA, he has lived in Santa Cruz since 1927. A graduates of Santa Cruz High, 1940, a veteran of World War II, served with the 250th Coast Artillery, Alaska, and later Staff Sergeant with the 124th Field Artillery in Europe. In England, his unit shot down many of the BuzzBombs headed for London. He later worked for the Santa Cruz City Schools and worked as area manager for Van Gas Propane. He was a past president of the S.C. High Dad’s Club and past president of Mended Hearts. He also volunteered for the Grey Bears. He loved sports and coached baseball for the Santa Cruz Ln and Title Co teams. He also dearly loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and he and Barbara had just celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary last Friday.
Private entombment will be on Wednesday, December 24, 2003 at Santa Cruz Memorial Park Mausoleum. Santa Cruz Memorial Park Funeral Home in charge of funeral arrangements.

NANCY ANN SAWLEY
Remembering Nancy at Christmas, 73, Loving wife of Clifford O. Sawley. Nancy was called to the Lord September 28, 2003. She was surrounded by her family and friends at The Retirement Inn of Fremont, where she was so much loved by so many. Our Nana is remembered for her kind, generous spirit, always giving, always thinking of others, never thinking of herself or wanting to trouble others. She always chose to see the good in people, and always had encouraging words for friends and family alike. All she asked for in return - were hugs.
Nancy is survived and deeply missed this Holiday season by her Husband of 42 years, Clifford; Her son and daughter-in-law Larry A. and Janice R. Lee of Simi Valley, CA and grandsons Aaron and Alex; Daughter and son- in-law Deborah A. and William Gaarde of Carlsbad, CA and grandsons Rich and Mike; Daughter Becky Sawley and life-mate Carmen of Vallejo, CA; Step-son Mike Sawley and wife Young Sook of Oakland, CA; Step-daughter Melinda Sawley and husband Bill of Marysville, CA; Dearest Aunt and Uncle Louise and Richard Bilskey of Oakland, CA; Niece Paula Bilskey of Fremont, CA; Nephew Walter Bilskey and wife Patty of Madera, CA.
Nancy was born Nancy Pearlman in Oakland, CA on Oct. 30, 1929, and graduated from Oakland High School. She met and marriage husband of 11 years Kenneth A. Lee, and was a long-time employee of the Lawrence Livermore Radiation Laboratory and resident of Livermore, CA. After the birth of Larry and Debby and a separation, she then met and marriage Clifford and moved with her children to Walnut Creek, CA where she became a member of Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church and big supporter of Young Life. Nancy and Clif retired to Paradise Park Masonic Community in the redwoods above Santa Cruz, CA, where they lived for 22 years. They were very active with the Coast Guard Auxiliary, and their Trailer Travel Group. Nancy was a very active member, Deacon, and supporter of The Santa Cruz Presbyterian Church; and a volunteer for the Red Cross where she was affectionately known as "The Bag Lady" for prepping the bags for donated blood.
She lived to help others. In addition to her family, Nancy loved her dear friends, God, her church, singing, music, jigsaw puzzles, the ocean, knitting and sending cards to stay in touch. Mom's final hours were spent surrounded by loved ones with songs, smiles, laughter and tears. We miss her so much. Nancy / Mom / Nana is with us in spirit and always will be. When we are reminded of the special way she touched our hearts, let's smile and thank HER for the memories. Private services will be today for John "Jack" Thompson, who died Sunday in Santa Cruz after a lengthy illness. He was 83.
Mr. Thompson was born in San Jose, but called Santa Cruz home since 1927.
Mr. Thompson was a 1940 graduate of Santa Cruz High School, and a veteran of World War II who served with the 250th Coast Artillery in Alaska. He also was a staff sergeant with the 124th Anti-Aircraft Unit in Europe. While in England, his unit shot down many of the V-1 "buzz bomb" rockets headed for London. After the war, he worked for the Santa Cruz City Schools district and later as an area manager for Van Gas Propane.
Mr. Thompson was president of the Santa Cruz High School Dads Club and was a past president of Mended Hearts. He also volunteered for the Grey Bears. He loved sports and coached baseball for the Santa Cruz Land and Title Co. teams.
Friday, he and his wife, Barbara, celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.
Besides his wife, he is survived by son John Lee Thompson of Santa Barbara; daughter Lynn Connors of Brentwood; brothers Michael of Visalia, Alfred of Hollister, Richard of North Plains, Ore. and Emmett of Scotts Valley; sister Gerry Kadluboski of Reno; half-brother Richard Carney of Saugus; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Craig Bateman
Services will be Tuesday for Craig Bateman, who died Dec. 16 at Dominican Hospital after a long illness. He was 43.
Mr. Bateman was born in Redwood City and lived in Boulder Creek for 20 years. He worked as a chef at the Boulder Creek Country Club and at Scopazzi’s Restaurant.
Mr. Bateman was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and camping. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his mother, Beverly Bateman of Boulder Creek; a sister, Pam Rowland of Redwood City; an uncle and aunt; and a niece.
Services will be 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Odd Fellows Hall, 152 Forest St., Boulder Creek.
Contributions are preferred to the kidney and liver transplant service at UC San Francisco, 44 Montgomery St., No. 2200, San Francisco, CA 94104.

DOROTHY A. BARBER
Dorothy A. Barber, 97, passed into eternal peace on Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at East Oaks Extended Care in Palm Bay, Florida. She was born February 11, 1906 in San Jose, California to Clarence Swanman and Adella Lord Swanman. She moved to Santa Cruz at the age of twelve where she lived until moving to Florida in the fall of 2000. She marriage Desmond M. Barber on September 1, 1928. He preceded her in death June 1, 1980. Her only sister, Genevieve Swanman Davis preceded her in death.
Dorothy was a graduate of Santa Cruz High School and a member of the Pepsi Gang. She was a sixty-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Idlewild Chapter No. 19 in Santa Cruz and was named an Honorary Member of Valley of the Redwoods Chapter No. 638, Order of the Eastern Star in September 1969. Dorothy became a member of First Congregational Church, 900 High Street, Santa Cruz on Easter Sunday, April 16, 1922. Until 2000, she was an active member of Women’s Fellowship of the Church and served as Church Hostess for many years. Dorothy was approved for membership in DAR in 1981.
She is survived by son Harold M. Barber and his wife, Kay of Titusville, Florida, niece Linda Rothrock, nephew, Norman Davis, brother-in-law Homer Davis all of Santa Cruz. Five grandchildren, Terry, Cheryl, Todd, Tim and David and four great grandchildren, Lynell, Lindsey, Kyley and Samantha also survive.
Dorothy will be interred at Oak Hill Cemetery in San Jose, CA at a later date. No services are planned by the family at this time. Memorials in Dorothy’s name may be sent to Masonic Outreach Services, 34400 Mission Blvd., Union City, CA 94587-3604.
