Robyn Clarisse Cherry
Private services will be later for Robyn Clarisse Cherry, who died of cancer Thursday in Santa Cruz. She was 59.
Mrs. Cherry was born in Stockton and had lived in Santa Cruz County since 1980.
She graduated from Stagg High School in Stockton and marriage Thomas D. Cherry Jr. in Stockton in 1961.
She worked as an optometric technician and bookkeeper since high school, and for the last 14 years worked for Anthony Giannotti of Scotts Valley.
She was a member of the Aptos Lioness Club and won the Treasurer and Lioness of the Year award in 1996.
Mrs. Cherry also enjoyed spending time with the Monday night football crowd.
She is survived by parents Carola and Howard Abrams of Stockton; son Thomas D. Cherry III of Soquel; daughter Susan D. Boyer of Waterford; brothers James D. Abrams of New Albany, Ohio, and Robert E. Garrett of San Francisco; three grandchildren; and two nephews.
She also is survived by her companion of eight years, James E. Hudson, and his children, Travis and Tracey of Scotts Valley.
Her husband, Thomas D. Cherry Jr., died in 1994.
Contributions are preferred to the Lions Eye Foundation, P.O. Box 799, San Francisco, CA 94120.
Arrangements are by Santa Cruz Memorial Park.

Roy M. Takamune
Services have been held for Roy M. Takamune, who died Wednesday at Watsonville Community Hospital. He was 82.
Mr. Takamune was born in Seattle and lived in Watsonville for 50 years.
He operated Roy’s Appliance Repair in Watsonville for 18 years before retiring in 1990.
He was a member of the Watsonville Buddhist Temple.
He is survived by his wife, Rosie Takamune of Watsonville; daughter Lisa Kay Takamune of Watsonville; sisters Aiko Fujii of Stockton and Masi Nakayama of Watsonville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were Saturday at Watsonville Buddhist Temple.
After cremation, Mr. Takamune’s ashes will be taken to Pajaro Valley Memorial Park.
Arrangements were by Mehl’s Colonial Chapel.

Jean E. Sherwood
At her request, no services will be held for Jean E. Sherwood, who died Thursday at Watsonville Community Hospital. She was 93.
Mrs. Sherwood was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and lived in Ventura before moving to the Corralitos area more than 20 years ago.
She enjoyed knitting, baking and crocheting, and being a good neighbor.
She is survived by nieces Nancy Wolf of San Luis Obispo, and Jean Rose and Lois Walton, both of Ontario, Canada; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
Her husband, Wayne Sherwood, died in 2001.
Friends and family members will scatter her ashes.
Arrangements are by Davis Memorial Chapel.

Ellie Flaherty
Services are Sunday for Ellie Flaherty, who died Jan. 27. She was 78.
Mrs. Flaherty was born in Lawrence, Mass., and moved to Santa Cruz in 1982.
She graduated from Newton High School and attended Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School.
In Santa Cruz, Mrs. Flaherty owned an import business which allowed her to travel throughout the world searching for items to market.
In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, walking on West Cliff Drive and spending time with family.
She is survived by daughters Janet Benson and Lori Gaudin, both of Scotts Valley; sister Marjorie Springer of Dedham, Mass.; brother Bert Lewis of Monrovia, Md.; and two grandsons.
A gathering in her honor will be noon-4 p.m. Sunday at the home of Richard and Janet Benson.
Arrangements are by Oakwood Memorial Chapel.

Mildred June Hegwer
Services will be Friday in Escalon for Mildred June Hegwer, who died Friday at Hospice House in Monterey. She was 84.
Ms. Hegwer was born in Pueblo, Colo., and raised in Modesto. She lived in Placerville and in Santa Cruz from 1972 to 1995.
She retired from the state Department of Employment, where she worked finding jobs for Bethany College students.
Mrs. Hegwer survived Pearl Harbor while her husband was stationed in Hawaii.
She enjoyed reading and traveling, and was active as a naval officer’s wife.
She is survived by sons Hal Hegwer of Salinas and Gregory D. Hegwer of Garden Valley; sisters Goldie Small of Chico and Maxine Lewis of Modesto; brother Mel McCoy of Modesto; and seven grandchildren.
Her husband, Louis H. Hegwer Sr., died in 1971 and her son Rex Hegwer died in 1995.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Burwood Cemetery, 28320 E. River Road, Escalon.
Arrangements are by Struve and LaPorte Chapel of Salinas.

Mildred L. Buchanan
Services will be Thursday for Mildred L. Buchanan, who died Saturday at a Watsonville convalescent hospital. She was 83.
Mrs. Buchanan was born in Snyder, Texas, and had lived in the Las Lomas area for 60 years.
She and her husband, Jesse, helped found E.A. Hall school, and she was active in the PTA during the school’s early years.
She enjoyed RV camping and fishing trips.
She is survived by son Larry E. Buchanan of San Antonio, Texas; daughter Sharon Green of Watsonville; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Her husband of 62 years, Jesse H. Buchanan, died before her.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today and from 8-10 a.m. Thursday at Davis Memorial Chapel, 609 Main St., Watsonville.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Davis chapel.
Mrs. Buchanan will be buried at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park.

Gerald E. Turnquist
No services are planned for Gerald "Jerry" Edward Turnquist, who died Jan. 14 at Dominican Hospital. He was 74.
A native of Minneapolis, Mr. Turnquist served in the Army from 1951 to 1956, and settled in Japan until 1977. He moved to Santa Cruz, where he owned the Asian Scene Restaurant on Water Street until 1985. He also was a caterer.
He was active at the Doran Center for the Blind in Santa Cruz, where he held many offices on the board of directors.
He was active on the committee at Cabrillo College that helped place foreign-exchange students in American homes, and helped them adjust to their new environment.
He is survived by sister Pat Halberg of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, two nieces and seven nephews. He was close to his longtime friend and companion Mitsuo.
His brothers, Wayne and Dick Turnquist, died before him.
Contributions are preferred to the Doran Center for the Blind, 413 Laurel St., Santa Cruz, CA 95060.
