Services will be private for Irene M. Freeman, who died Wednesday at Hy-Land Nursing Home in Modesto. She was 90.
Mrs. Freeman previously lived in Felton.
She worked as a school secretary at Cornell Grammar School in Albany for 20 years.
She is survived by sister Nancy Troxa of Rossmor; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great, great-grandson.
Her husband, Vernon H. Freeman, and her son, Donald R. Freeman, died before her.

Marjorie P. Lochridge
Services will be private for Marjorie Lochridge, who died Jan. 23 in Rochester, Minn. She was 75.
Mrs. Lochridge was born and grew up in Evanston, Ill. She moved to Aptos in 1989 and lived there until November 2002.
She attended Haven School and Evanston High School. In 1949, she marriage Wilson Lochridge. In 1957, she and her husband moved to Winnetka, Ill., where they raised two daughters and Mrs. Lochridge worked as a real estate agent.
Her interests included music, literature, architecture and antiques. Her primary focus, however, was her family. She had a wonderful sense of humor.
She is survived by daughters Elizabeth Ward of Rochester and Lisa Tracy of Marion, Iowa; brothers Jack Phillips of Minneapolis and Craig Phillips of Aurora, Ill., and sister Nancy Chandler of Claremont.
Her husband died in 2000.

Kate Jackson
Services were private for Kate Jackson, who died Feb. 2 in her Watsonville home. She was 50.
A native of Bacchus Marsh, Victoria, Australia, Mrs. Jackson moved to Watsonville 25 years ago. She was a trained nurse in Australia, with degrees in general nursing, midwifery and obstetrics. She served as the first female and youngest person to be appointed as night supervisor at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. She got her nursing degree in California and worked at the Watsonville Community Hospital from 1978 to 1983. She was happiest when working in the maternity ward.
She co-owned and operated Desert Theatre Nursery, a shop selling succulent and cactus plants, with husband Jay Jackson. She was known by her customers as "Cactus Kate."
She loved photography, music, world travel, her nursery and reading.
She is survived by former husband and friend Jay Jackson of Vista; brother Keron McGrath of Oceanside; sister Suzie Morrell of New Zealand and two nephews.
Services were private at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Watsonville, as was cremation at the Soquel Cemetery.
Davis Memorial Chapel, 609 Main St., Watsonville, is in charge of arrangements. Contributions are preferred to the Walnut Avenue Women’s Center, 303 Walnut Ave., Santa Cruz, or to UNICEF or the charity of your choice.

Stacy F. Lee
Services will be private for Stacy F. Lee, who died Wednesday in his Santa Cruz home. He was 65.
Mr. Lee was a native of Pajaro and attended Pajaro Elementary School, Moreland Notre Dame Academy and Watsonville High School. He was a member of the U.S. Air Force in the 1950s, serving in Alaska. He was a longtime employee of Longs Drugs. He was also a warehouseman for the Santa Cruz City Schools district from 1978 to 1997, and a personnel commissioner for the Santa Cruz County Office of Education. He was an active union representative for the California School Employees Association.
He enjoyed walking, cooking, traveling and spending time with his granddaughter.
He is survived by wife JoAnne Lee of Santa Cruz; son Dwayne Higgins of Charleston, S.C.; brother Kenneth L. Lee of Watsonville; sister Rosie Machado of Watsonville; one granddaughter, two nieces and two nephews. He was also very with his daughter-in-law Rhose Higgins and his granddaughter Crystal Marie Higgins, both of Charleston.
There will be no services for Mr. Lee, but his family and friends will scatter his ashes at sea on an unspecified date.
Arrangements are by Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz. Contributions are preferred to the California School Employees Association Disaster Fund or the American Diabetes Association.

Stanley Miller
No services are planned for Stanley Miller, who died Jan. 20 at a Watsonville convalescent hospital after a long illness. He was 75.
Miller was a Watsonville native and lived there most of his life.
He graduated from local schools and was a heavy equipment operator for many years with Granite Construction. As a young man, he played semi-professional baseball and football for local teams. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
He his survived by his sons, Gene Miller of Panama City, Fla., Mike Miller of Washington state. Robert Miller of Salem, Ore., and Gary Miller of Salt Lake City; daughter, Mary Lou Miller of Roseburg, Ore.; several grandchildren.
Mr. Miller’s remains were cremated and buried in the family plot at Valley Catholic Cemetery.

Maria Ramirez
Services are today for Maria Ramirez, who died Monday in Las Vegas. She was 80.
Mrs. Ramirez was born in Yahualica, Jalisco, Mexico and had lived in Watsonville since 1969. She worked 20 years for the Watsonville Canning Co., enjoyed shopping and was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.
She is survived by sons Manuel and Pedro Jimenez, both of Watsonville, and Juan Jimenez of Salinas; daughters Maria Lopez and Aurora Jimenez, both of Las Vegas, Josefina, Lidia, Graciela and Rebeca Jimenez, all of Watsonville, and Esther Velasco of Salinas; two brothers of Mexico; 30 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Services are 7 p.m. today at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel. Friends may call today and Sunday from 5-9 p.m., and Monday from 10-11:30 a.m. at Mehl’s.
Burial will be at noon Monday at Valley Cemetery.

Margaret Johanna Thompson
Services are Monday for Margaret Johanna Thompson, who died Wednesday at her Santa Cruz home. She was 97.
Mrs. Thompson was born in Le Mars, Iowa. She was a longtime resident of Vallejo where she taught school at Flosden Elementary and Mare Island Elementary Schools for 22 years. She moved to Santa Cruz 25 years ago where she was a volunteer of Peter Carota’s first soup kitchen. She attended Holy Cross Church and was a member of the Octagon Museum in Santa Cruz.
She is survived by daughter Margaret Deason of Boulder Creek; son John Thompson of Santa Cruz; sister Addie Liedlich of Banning; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial mass is noon Monday at Holy Cross Church, 126 High St., Santa Cruz.
Contributions are preferred in Mrs. Thompson’s name to a local homeless shelter.
Arrangements are by Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel.

Reynalda V. ‘Reyna’ Guzman
Services are Monday for Reynalda V. "Reyna" Guzman, who died Wednesday at her Watsonville home. She was 53.
Mrs. Guzman was born in Cheran, Michoacan, Mexico. She had lived in the Watsonville area for nearly 30 years.
Mrs. Guzman owned and operated Reyna’s Deli in Corralitos for four years. She enjoyed cooking and was a member of Pajaro Community Development Corp., UFW, Teamsters Union 912, Brown Berets, White Hawks Dancers, Adelante and was president of the Watsonville chapter of the Partido Revolocionario Democratico.
She is survived by sons Ivan Hernandez of Watsonville, Ignacio Guzman of Texas and Aaron Hernandez of Salinas; daughters Blanca Hernandez of Watsonville and Beatriz Valdez of Los Angeles; mother Enriqueta Estrada of Mexico; sisters Berta, Estela, Herlinda, Josefina, Maria Elena, Angeles and Roselia of Mexico, and Eudelia Valdez-Estrada of Los Angeles; and four grandchildren.
Services are 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Church, Watsonville.
Friends may call today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. at Davis Memorial Chapel. A rosary will be 7 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. Burial will be in Cheran, Mexico.

Wilma Johnson Lyon
Services will be Monday for Wilma Johnson Lyon, who died Wednesday in Santa Cruz. She was 89.
Mrs. Lyon was born in Fairfield, Iowa. She moved to Santa Cruz in 1965.
She graduated from high school in Dixon and attended Sacramento Junior College and San Francisco Art and Design Institute.
Mrs. Lyon worked as a dress designer for G.W. Reynolds Co. until marrying Hylan Benton Lyon in 1935, then served as the wife of a career naval officer for 30 years. The couple moved to Santa Cruz after he retired.
She worked for many local organizations, including Goodwill and Lamplighters for the Blind, and was a member of the Santa Cruz Women’s Club, the Republican Women’s Club and president of the Quester’s organization. She loved a good bridge game.
She is survived by daughter Sharon Lyon Gugat of Santa Cruz; son Hylan B. Lyon Jr. of Dallas; sister Maxine J. Livingston of Medford, Ore.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Her husband of 66 years, retired Adm. Hylan B. Lyon, died in 2001.
Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Monday at Oakwood Memorial Chapel, 3301 Paul Sweet Road, Santa Cruz, adjacent to Dominican Hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Oakwood Memorial.
Graveside services will follow at Soquel Cemetery.
