Mrs. Chester was born in Mariposa, and had lived in Santa Cruz County for 52 years before moving to Oregon two years ago. She had lived in Santa Cruz and Aptos.
She was a homemaker, who enjoyed sewing, doll making, oil painting and cooking. She also had a lifelong love of animals.
She is survived by daughter Charlene Mattos of Florence; grandchildren Susan Sorg of Aptos and Mark Vollner of Florence; and two great-grandchildren.
Husband Fred Chester died in 1998.
Dunes Memorial Chapel in Reedsport, Ore., was in charge of the arrangements.

Nellie Nielsen
No services are planned for Nellie Nielsen, who died Friday in Watsonville. She was 81.
She was born in Charter Oak, and moved to Santa Cruz County five years ago after living in San Diego for many years.
During World War II, she was a riveter, helping to build airplanes for the war effort. She worked as a waitress at various locations in Santa Cruz and San Diego for many years.
She enjoyed reading and dining out, and spending time with her children, grandchildren and her daughter’s dog Dash.
She is survived by daughters Darlene Duggan of Watsonville and Linda Riazzi of Gilbert, Ariz.; brothers Don Dotts of Tempe, Ariz. and Philip Dotts of San Diego; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Brother John Dotts Jr. died before her.
Mehl’s Colonial Chapel in Watsonville is in charge of the arrangements.

Charles Robert Slick
Services will be Feb. 22 for Charles Robert Slick, who died Jan. 25 in Capitola from cardiopulmonary arrest and lymphoma. He was 82.
Mr. Slick was born in Middletown, Ind., and lived in Soquel. He also had lived in Los Angeles and San Jose.
He was a railroad conductor and brakeman.
He was a Mason, a member of Liberty Lodge No. 299 in Santa Clara, a member of Moss Lodge No. 545 in Santa Cruz and SIRS Branch No. 104 in Aptos.
He is survived by son Robert Slick of Soquel; brothers Rex Slick of Middletown, Ind., and Ralph Slick of Rio Vista.
His wife, Loma Slick, died in 1985.
Services will be 1 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Santa Cruz Moose Lodge, 2740 El Rancho Drive. Neptune Society of San Jose is in charge of the arrangements.
Contributions are preferred to the American Diabetes Society.

Mike Masao Mayekawa
Services will be Thursday for Mike Masao Mayekawa, who died Sunday at Dominican Hospital. He was 77.
Mr. Mayekawa was a native of Mountain View. In 1966, he moved to Aptos from Gilroy.
He was a partner for 20 years in T.M. Irrigation Specialties.
He served in the Army during the Korean War.
He was a member of the Watsonville Buddhist Temple and the Japanese American Citizens League.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jane Mayekawa of Aptos; a son, Douglas Mayekawa of Sacramento; two daughters, Melanie Burkhard of Salinas and Gayle Nagata of Burlingame; two brothers, Kazuo Mayekawa of Sunnyvale and Jack Mayekawa of Texas.
Services are Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Watsonville Buddhist Temple. Interment will be at the San Jose Buddhist Temple.
Arrangements are by Mehl’s Colonial Chapel.

Betty Maruca
Services will be today for Betty Maruca, who died Sunday in Santa Cruz after a lengthy illness. She was 73.
A native of Las Lomas, N.M., she was raised in Miles City, Mont. She was a 35-year resident of San Jose and a 15-year resident of Santa Cruz.
Maruca was a registered nurse for 36 years, beginning her career while serving as a nun for Presentation Convent in North Dakota. She later worked at O’Connor Hospital in San Jose.
She was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Community and enjoyed traveling, camping and raising toy Pomeranians and Yorkshire Terriers.
She is survived by her husband, Carmen Maruca of Capitola; sons David Maruca of Capitola and Michael Maruca of Sarasota, Fla.; daughter Rebecca Dinapoli of San Jose; four granddaughters; and one grandson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Community, 515 Frederick St., Santa Cruz. Graveside services will follow at Los Gatos Memorial Park, Los Gatos.

Guy H. Weech
Services are today for Guy H. Weech, who died Monday in Santa Cruz. He was 88.
Mr. Weech was born in Minam, Ore., and moved to Santa Cruz two years ago. He was raised in Pima, Ariz., and also lived in Brawley and El Monte.
He was a dairy man for 20 years, and worked for Arrowhead Water for 30 years.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints.
He is survived by daughter Cherrel Botkin of Morro Bay; sons Bill Weech of Grand Junction, Ron Weech of Portland, Ore., and Val Weech of Santa Cruz; sister Sara Havens of West Covina; 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
His wife of 67 years, Geneva Weech, and two sisters and a brother died before him.
Services are 2 p.m. today at Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz. A graveside service will be Monday in Pima.
