Services will be Saturday for Bertie L. Cole, who died Thursday in Watsonville. She was 68.
Born in Arkansas, she was a registered nurse for 45 years. She spent 33 years in Watsonville. She was a member of the nurses association and the Watsonville Senior Center.
She is survived by her mother, Edna Quick of Paris, Calif.; sons Robert Cole of Watsonville, Frank Boykin Jr. of Tucson and Willie Boykin of Carmichael; daughters Sharon Morford of Lodi and Susan Whitehorn of Watsonville; brother W.O. Quick of Oakdale; sisters Juanita Irene Bomgaare of Paris, Peggy J. Butcher and Rena Arnold, both of Gardena; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 at p.m. Saturday at the Pinto Lake Mobile Estates Club Room, 789 Green Valley Road, Watsonville. Arrangements are by Davis Memorial Chapel, 609 Main St., Watsonville.

Thomas David Grant
Services have been held for Thomas David Grant, who died of cancer Jan. 17 at his home in Oakland. He was 66.
A native of San Francisco, he graduated from UC Berkeley majoring in business administration. He lived in Santa Cruz for 10 years and worked at Wilson Brothers Realty in commercial and industrial real estate.
He was president of the Scotts Valley Rotary and president of Christians in Commerce. He was on the board of Retreats International.
Recently he was director of the Franciscan Covenant Program. He enjoyed photography, golf and culinary artistry.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Rena Grant; daughters Cathy of Pleasant Hill and Penny of Lafayette; sons Mike of Petaluma, Dan of Lahaina, Maui, and Tom of Martinez; sisters Mary Ellen Gilstrap of La Canada and Barbara Ruddy of Modesto; brothers Barry of Riverside, Chuck of Oakland and Stew of Oakland; and five grandchildren.
His daughter, Mary, died in 1993.

Ramona Reyes Guardado
Services will be today for Ramona Reyes Guardado, who died Wednesday at her home in Watsonville. She was 81.
Born in Jalisco, Mexico, she came to Watsonville from Santa Maria three years ago. She was a member of Iglesia Nuestra Senora Asuncion and a member of the church choir. She enjoyed gardening and knitting and loved to spend time with her grandchildren, her family said.
She is survived by sons Salvador and Juan Guardado; seven daughters, Yolanda Pina, Esperanza Zarate, Ofelia Soto, Conception Barajas, Maria Amador, Raquel Gonzales and Rosario Perez; brothers Ignacio Reyes and Jesus Reyes; sisters Maria Ibarra and Trina Castellanos; 35 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.
Her husband of 50 years, Rito, died in 1986. Her son Luis died two years ago. Her brother Jose also died before her.
Friends may call today from 2-8 p.m. at Davis Memorial Chapel, 609 Main St., Watsonville. A rosary chapel blessing will be at 4 p.m., followed by Mass at 5 p.m.
A rosary will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Dudly Hoffman Mortuary in Santa Maria, with a Burial Mass at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John Newman Church in Santa Maria. Burial will follow at Santa Maria Cemetery.

Yoda Manolis
Services will be Saturday for Yoda Manolis, who died Monday in Walnut Creek. She was 93.
Born in San Francisco, she lived in Santa Cruz for many years. She grew up in Stockton, and moved to Pittsburg after marriage Louis Churappas. They operated a restaurant called the Koffee Kup, and she was instrumental in starting a Greek Orthodox church there.
After her husband died, she marriage George Manolis and moved to Santa Cruz. They opened a market in the beach area on Riverside Avenue. After selling that market, she and her husband worked for Mellis Market. She also helped start the Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church of Santa Cruz and was active at its Greek Festival.
She is survived by two nephews, Daniel Betsekas of Walnut Creek and George Betsekas of Redwood City, and many other nieces and nephews.
Her husband, George Manolis, died before her, as did her sister, her five brothers, and her nephew Jim Betsekas.
Friends may call today from 4-8 p.m. at Santa Cruz Memorial Mission Chapel, 1927 Ocean St., Santa Cruz. A Trisigion service will be at 7 p.m.
A funeral service will be at noon Saturday in the Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church, 223 Church St., Santa Cruz. Arrangements are by Santa Cruz Memorial Park and Funeral Home.

Salvador P. Pesqueira
Services will be Friday for Salvador Portillo Pesqueira, who died Saturday at his home in Watsonville after a long illness. He was 78.
A native of Pasadena, he lived in Watsonville for more than 60 years.
He worked for several local companies, including Henry R. Valentine, Steve Zupan, Green Giant and Golden West Pancakes. He also had worked for Christiana Western Structures in Arizona.
He was a member of Valley Catholic Church.
He is survived by his former wife, Pauline Rivas of Los Angeles; sons Salvador Pesqueira Jr. of Watsonville, Phillip Pesqueira of Aptos and Tony Pesqueira of Hollister; daughters Anita Pesqueira of San Juan Bautista, Amalia Pesqueira and Valentina Pesqueira, both of Watsonville, and Adelita Pesqueira of Los Angeles; brothers Bill Garcia of San Bernardino and Edward Garcia of Watsonville; sisters Rosie Garcia and Mary Garcia of Los Angeles, and Nena Garcia of Watsonville; 19 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Julie Ann Dunn
Services will be Saturday for Julie Ann Dunn, who died from complications of diabetes Dec. 20 at The Little Company of Mary Hospital in Torrance. She was 41.
Born in San Jose, she moved to Santa Cruz in 1976 and attended Soquel High School before earning a bachelor’s degree in political science from UC Berkeley.
After graduation, she worked as an intern to Assemblyman Tom Hayden in Sacramento, on the 1984 presidential campaign of Sen. Alan Cranston and on the state Commission on the Status of Women.
She earned a master’s degree in public administration at the University of West Florida and returned to California, where she worked as the public information officer for the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health for nine years.
She worked on several political campaigns, including Jane Harman’s run for governor in 1998, and taught political science at Glendale Community College.
Two years ago, she started volunteering at the Manhattan Beach Discover Shop, which raised money for the American Cancer Society.
She loved animals, especially her cocker spaniel, Dopey.
Julie marriage Bob Dunn in 1995. They were arranging to adopt a child when she died.
Friends said she was always available to help, even during her own health struggles, calling her "an amazing example of strength through diversity."
She is survived by her husband, Bob Dunn of Hermosa Beach; brother Michael David, also of Hermosa Beach; father Jim Flake of San Jose and stepfather Ken Stewart of Soquel.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz. Friends may call 3-8 p.m. Friday.

Steve C. Allen
Services will be Saturday for Steve C. Allen, who died Friday at Watsonville Community Hospital. He was 52.
Born in Watsonville, he was a retired produce worker. He graduated from Watsonville High School and attended Cabrillo College. During his youth, he was a member of the Springfield 4-H Club. His 4-H project involved Guide Dogs for the Blind.
From 1969 to 1973, he served in the U.S. Navy.
He enjoyed camping and helping friends.
He is survived by three brothers, Chuck Allen of La Selva Beach, Hank Allen of Aptos and Don Allen of Watsonville; sister Helen Marie Nethercutt of Scotts Valley; and several nieces and nephews.
His father, Burton Allen, and his mother, Helen Allen Brown, died before him.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Twin Lakes Church, 2701 Cabrillo College Drive, Aptos. Davis Memorial Chapel, 609 Main St., Watsonville, is in charge of arrangements.
Contributions are preferred to charity.

Edward E. Potwin
Services will be Sunday for Edward Edgerton Potwin, who died Thursday at Driftwood Health Care Center in Santa Cruz after a brief illness. He was 93.
He was born in Honolulu to missionary parents, and moved to the Mount Hermon area in 1954. More recently, he lived at Oak Tree Villa.
Raised in Hawaii and California, he graduated in 1928 from Harvard Military School in Los Angeles, where three years later he marriage his wife, Doris. He worked as a firefighter for the Santa Fe and Union Pacific railroads for several years until he decided to become an optometrist.
In 1937, he obtained a certificate from the UC Berkeley School of Optometry. In 1944, he set up his own practice in San Jose, retiring in 1962 to volunteer for Wycliffe Bible Translators.
He and his wife traveled to Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico and across the United States, providing eye care and family support for the translators. They were both active in the founding of Felton Bible Church. He sang bass in the church quartet.
He is survived by daughter Gail Potwin Wright of Foster City; three grandchildren; three nieces; six nephews; and two great-grandchildren.
His wife, Doris Barton Potwin, died in August and his son, Douglas Potwin, died in 2000.
Services will be noon Sunday at Felton Bible Church, 5999 Graham Hill Road, Felton. Arrangements are by Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz.
