Private services will be held for Thomas Eardley, who died Saturday at Dominican Hospital. He was 80.
Mr. Eardley was born in England and immigrated to the United States in 1961. He became a citizen in 1966. He had been a resident of Santa Cruz for the past 12 years.
Mr. Eardley was a decorated World War II veteran and a POW in Germany who escaped three times from prison. Throughout his life, he worked at various jobs including as a coal miner in England, a merchant mariner and a gold-mine rescue worker in Ghana, east Africa, a boiler maintenance mechanic on ARCO oil tankers and a base maintenance superintendent at Indian Mountain and Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Eardley of Santa Cruz; former wife Florence Kassoff; son Raymond Eardley; stepson Jon Turley; and stepdaughters Melinda Scott, Gail Bauer and Carol Collins.
Arrangements are by Santa Cruz Watsonville Cremation Service.

Anna ‘Pat’ McKinley
Services will be later for Anna "Pat" McKinley who died Friday at a local care facility. She was 82.
Ms. McKinley made her home in Kansas City, Mo. Four years ago she moved to Santa Cruz.
She was a Chinese brush painter and was acknowledged by the director of the Beijing National Museum as one of the most accomplished traditional style Chinese brush painters in the United States. She was fascinated by the Orient and enjoyed designing and planting an Oriental garden at her Kansas City home.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Percy H. "Mac" McKinley of Santa Cruz; son Michael D. McKinley of Des Moines, Iowa; and daughters Gale Laird of Boulder Creek, Caroline Gold of Fairfax and Jan McKinley of Redwood City.
Services will be later in Kansas City.

Catherine M. Call
No services were held for Catherine Margaret Call, who died Tuesday. She was 91.
She was born in Burlington, Wash. She marriage in 1933 and moved to San Francisco in 1937. In 1950, she began working for the State Compensation Insurance Fund, where she was employed for 18 years. In 1968, she moved to Sunnyvale as the manager of an apartment complex.
In 1975 she moved to Santa Cruz and managed the Cypress Point Apartments for many years before moving to Shelter Lagoon townhouse development, where she lived for 20 years until moving into a nursing care facility in 2001.
She enjoyed life with her many friends. She loved traveling and socializing with friends and family.
She is survived by her son, Gordon Call of Cupertino; and grandsons Geoff Call of Capitola and Garrett Call of Campbell.
Cremation was under the arrangement of Santa Cruz Watsonville Cremation Service. Remembrances may be made to a local charity.

Kirk L. Page
Services with military honors will be held at a later date for Kirk L. Page who died Thursdayat his Watsonville home. He was 60.
Mr. Page was born in Watsonville.
He graduated from Watsonville High School and played on the school’s football team in 1959.
He served in the U.S. army during the Vietnam War and worked as an aircraft mechanic for Moffett Field.
He is survived by his daughter, Lynn Page of Watsonville; and brother Noel Page of Carson City, Nev.
Brothers Scott Page and Gary Page died before him.
Service will be at a later date at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery, Gustine.
Arrangements are by Davis Memorial Chapel.

Edwin Bechtel
Services will be Thursday for Edwin "Ed" Bechtel, who died June 20 in his Santa Cruz home. He was 87.
Born in Augusta, Wis., he was raised on a farm in Elmhurst, Ill. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater, earning a Bronze Star. He returned to Elmhurst after the war and worked his trade as a tool and die maker. He later worked in the real estate and automobile sales businesses.
Bechtel moved to Santa Cruz in 1986 to be near his son.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and was an active volunteer with the California Grey Bears. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Santa Cruz.
Bechtel will be remembered as someone who could fix almost anything and who spent much time in his workshop.
He is survived by his son, Jim Bechtel of Capitola, and two grandchildren.
His wife, Eva Bechtel, died in May 2003.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Santa Cruz.
A private committal is under the direction of Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Funeral Chapel.

Cindy N. Gilholm
Private services are planned for Cindy Nisson Gilholm, who died from a brain tumor June 22 at her Santa Cruz home. She was 44.
A California native, she was raised in Carmel and Santa Cruz.
She graduated from Soquel High School and graduated from Cabrillo College and San Jose State University.
She made living as an artist and was known for her specialty, hand-made greeting cards. She could often be seen walking along West Cliff Drive, and enjoyed being a mother.
She is survived by her husband, Greg Gilholm of Santa Cruz; daughter Molly Gilholm of Santa Cruz; stepson Gary Gilholm of Santa Cruz; sister Laurie Migliore of Santa Cruz; brother Josh Hittlemen of San Francisco; and mother Linda Hittlemen of Santa Cruz.
Donations are preferred to Monarch Elementary School, 313 Swift St., Santa Cruz, CA 95060.

Pamela L. Nelson
Memorial services will be later for Pamela Lynn Nelson, who died June 24 in Santa Cruz. She was 50.
Born in San Mateo, she attended Homestead High School in Sunnyvale, De Anza Junior College and Chico State University.
Upon moving to Santa Cruz she and some friends started the Santa Cruz Art Center.
Nelson taught and authored classes in yoga, dance, aerobic, back care, stress management, relaxation, meditation, therapeutic massage, anatomy, physiology for UCSC, chiropractic and physical therapy clinics in the United States and southeast Asia during the course of 21 years.
She had a college teaching credential in art and design.
Her passions included mountain biking, gardening, hot-tubbing under the stars, collage and cats.
She is survived by her mother, Naomi Harris; stepfather Fred Harris; sister Joanne Nelson; and stepmother, Georgia Nelson.
Donations are preferred to the Scotts Valley Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Helen ‘Jane’ Whyte
A celebration of life is planned July 9 for Helen "Jane" Whyte, who died of heart failure Wednesday at Pacific Coast Manor. She was 88.
She was a native of Aptos and raised in Fresno. She graduated from Fresno High School and attended Fresno State University.
Whyte was an avid bridge player and enjoyed reading, loved Boodles gin and a good party.
She was a board member of the Cabrillo Republican Women’s Club. She is survived by daughters Melinda S. Natale of Scotts Valley, Sandra J. Moore of Los Angeles; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two nieces.
Her husband, Laurence G. Whyte, and sister, Margaret G. Parsons, died before her.
A celebration of life will be 11 a.m. July 9 at 4747 Soquel Creek Road.
