A celebration of life will be Wednesday for Venette Kominos, who died Tuesday in Santa Cruz. She was 53.
Born in Sacramento, she had lived in Santa Cruz for more than 15 years.
She is survived by her longtime companion, Michael Assapoff, and her mother, Thelma Legatos, of Sacramento.
Her father, Nick Legatos, died before her.
A celebration of her life will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday next to the casino at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.
Cremation has been arranged by Mehl’s Colonial Chapel of Watsonville.
Contributions are preferred to the American Diabetes Association.

Louis R. Garvey
Services will be Wednesday for Louis Raymond Garvey, who died Thursday at a Santa Cruz convalescent home. He was 81.
Mr. Garvey, a native of New York, lived in Santa Cruz County for the past 29 years.
Mr. Garvey owned and operated Reddi Appliances in Aptos for many years before his retirement, when he turned the business over to his son-in-law.
Mr. Garvey, was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and served during World War II.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alice Garvey of Aptos; sons Michael and Paul of Aptos; daughters Mary Ann Martinez of San Antonio, Texas, Rita Gorham of Watsonville and Loretta Barnard of San Jose; brother William Garvey of New Jersey; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother Frank Garvey and sisters Marie Davis of Anaheim and Gertrude Airo of Florida.
A memorial Mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Resurrection Catholic Church, 7600 Soquel Drive in Aptos.
Arrangements are by Mehl’s Colonial Chapel.

Eugenia Gilstrap
Services will be Sunday for Eugenia "Jerry" Gilstrap, who died Wednesday in Santa Cruz after a long illness. She was 85.
She was born in Santa Clara and had lived in Santa Cruz since 1965.
She was a member of the UC Santa Cruz Retirees Association and had worked in the recreational office at the university more than 15 years. She enjoyed oil painting.
She is survived by son Ronald Walsh of Discovery Bay; brother Tony Moniz of Capitola; sisters Ann Eaker of Santa Clara, Frances Karnes of Campbell and Lucille Brace of Fiddletown; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a step-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Oakwood Memorial Park Crystal Chapel, 3301 Paul Sweet Road. Friends may visit before the service, starting at 9 a.m. Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park.

Julia V. Mannion
Services will be Monday for Julia V. Mannion, who died Thursday at her home in Dominican Oaks. She was 89.
Mrs. Mannion was born in Pennsylvania and moved with her husband to the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1950s. She moved to Santa Cruz from Sunnyvale in 1988.
She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church. A housewife, she also worked as a pink lady at El Camino Hospital in Sunnyvale.
Mrs. Mannion is survived by sons William A. Mannion of San Rafael and E. Gerard Mannion of San Francisco, daughter Mary Bush of Santa Cruz, and seven grandchildren.
Her husband, William J. Mannion, and a son, James P. Mannion, died before her.
A Burial Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday at Resurrection Catholic Church, 7600 Soquel Drive, Aptos. Graveside committal services will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 22555 Cristo Rey Drive, Los Altos. Arrangements are by Oakwood Memorial Chapel.

Edward Tatsumi Yoshida
Services will be Tuesday for Edward Tatsumi Yoshida, who died April 29 at Desert Springs Hospital in Las Vegas. He was 74.
Mr. Yoshida was born in San Luis Obispo and lived in Watsonville for the last 50 years.
After serving in the Army during the Korean War, he became a self-employed strawberry grower in the Watsonville and Salinas areas.
He was a member of the Watsonville Buddhist Church and Japanese American Citizen’s League. He enjoyed traveling, sports and shopping.
Mr. Yoshida was very close with his friend Anita Derrer of Prunedale.
He is survived by sons Gary Yoshida of Royal Oaks and Kelley Yoshida of Watsonville; brothers Charles Yoshida of La Selva Beach, Thomas Yoshida of Henderson, Nev., Byron Yoshida of Torrance and Paul Yoshida of San Jose; sisters Inez Hashimoto of Auburn, Rose Hisatomi of Cupertino, Sandra Suekawa of San Jose, Marge Fiske of Brentwood, Betsy Kochiyama of Sunnyvale and Margaret Takahashi of San Fernando; and many nieces and nephews.
His wife, Kazue Sue Yoshida, and eldest brother, Masao Yoshida, died before him.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Watsonville Buddhist Temple, 423 Bridge St., Watsonville. Burial will follow at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park, Hecker Pass Road, Watsonville.
Arrangements are by Davis Memorial Chapel, Watsonville.

Filino Reyes
Services were Friday for Filino Reyes, who died Tuesday at his Watsonville home of cancer. He was 47.
Mr. Reyes was born in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, and had lived in the Watsonville area for 15 years.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Berta Reyes of Watsonville; son Oscar Rivera of Arizona; daughter Frances Reyes of Watsonville; brother Juan Ramon Reyes of Los Angeles; three brothers and three sisters in Honduras; and four grandchildren.
Davis Memorial Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
Contributions are preferred to the American Cancer Society.

Frank Illia Bobu
Services will be private for Frank Illia Bobu, who died Sunday of cancer at VA Hospice of Palo Alto. He was 77.
Mr. Bobu was born in California, and was a Soquel resident. He was raised in San Francisco and Gilroy, and had lived in Santa Cruz County for 33 years.
He attended Catalina Island Maritime Service Training School and San Jose State College Police School, and took the Palo Alto Police Department training course, and studied Samuel Gompers Trade School machine shop.
He was a merchant marine with the Sailors’ Union of the Pacific, and served in the Coast Guard and merchant marine during World War II. He was also a Palo Alto police officer.
He enjoyed woodcarving, woodwork, solitaire, the John Edwards television show and his many friendships with his Soquel Creek neighbors. He rebuilt a mobile home damaged by flooding in Soquel.
He is survived by daughter Betty Bobu of Saratoga; stepson Jim Bobu of San Jose; and grandson Gabriel Bobu of Campbell.
His ashes will be scattered at sea. Neptune Society in San Jose is in charge of the arrangements.

Stuart L. Rosendale
Services will be May 10 for Stuart "Stu" Rosendale, who died Wednesday at his Santa Cruz home. He was 81.
Mr. Rosendale was born in Michigamme, Mich., and was a Santa Cruz County resident for 25 years.
He was a real estate broker, home builder and wholesale nursery owner.
He enjoyed traveling, fishing and spending time with his family. He was an avid reader.
He is survived by sister Kathryn Benzie of Benson, Ariz.; son Jeff Rosendale of Watsonville; and two grandchildren.
His wife, Dorothy, and daughter Robin died before him.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. May 10 at Soquel Nursery, 3645 N. Main St. , Soquel.
