Services will be Monday for Marie Anderson, who died in her Watsonville home Friday. She was 78.
A native of Syracuse, Kan., Mrs. Anderson spent many years working with her husband, an Assembly of God pastor, ministering to small congregations around Oregon. The couple moved to Watsonville four years ago to be near family.
She also worked as a medical assistant off and on for years. She loved arts and crafts and was creative, especially enjoying painting and sewing.
She is survived by daughters Sue Couchman of Watsonville and Patricia O’Hickey of Morgan Hill; son David Anderson of Oregon; brother Edgar Courtney of Seattle; sisters Florence Jones of Woodinville, Wash., Becky West of Bakersfield and Bess Palmer of Paradise, Mont.; and three grandchildren.
Her husband, the Rev. Donald Anderson, an infant daughter and one grandchild died before her.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Davis Memorial Chapel, 609 Main St., Watsonville, followed by Burial at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park. Friends may call 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Davis Memorial Chapel.
Arrangements are by Davis Memorial Chapel.

Margaret I. Craig
Services will be Monday for Margaret Castagnola Craig, who died Wednesday at a Capitola convalescent hospital. She was 82.
Mrs. Craig was born in the family home and grew up in Santa Cruz. She attended Bay View Elementary, Mission Hill Junior High and was a graduate of Santa Cruz High School’s class of 1940. She graduated in February, and in June 1940 was marriage to Jim Craig. She worked at Woolworth’s on Pacific Avenue and later at Miramar Restaurant on the Municipal Wharf for many years.
She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and the Monterey Culinary Union. She was known for her beautiful vegetable and flower garden.
She is survived by son James T. Craig Jr. of Santa Cruz; sisters Mary Ottem of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Eleanor Prather of Santa Cruz.
Her husband, Jim Craig, died in 1996. Her brothers, Achille "Keek" Castagnola and Louis Castagnola, and sisters, Minnie Pollastrini and Parma Marcenaro, also died before her.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz. Visiting hours will be 1-4 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. Entombment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Seventh Ave., Santa Cruz.

Agnes M. Kerber
Services were held for Agnes Martha Kerber, who died Monday in her Scotts Valley home. She was 81.
A native of Missouri, Mrs. Kerber moved to Watsonville at age 2. She lived in the county most of her life, living in Corralitos before she moved to Scotts Valley eight years ago.
She attended Holy Cross School and graduated from Watsonville High School. She attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Watsonville.
Mrs. Kerber was an artist and enjoyed watercolors and china painting. She also loved gardening, traveling, fishing and collecting dolls. She was one of the founding members of the Corralitos Padres and a member of the Cayetano women’s organization. She was active in youth groups, including the Pajaro Valley Horsemen’s Association and the Corralitos 4-H Club. Her family and friends were very important to her.
She is survived by daughters Karleen Galassi of Oregon and Kathy Soule of Ben Lomond; sister Henrietta Lacey of Watsonville; and three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Her husband Karl Kerber died in 1984.

Ruby E. Neely
Services will private for Ruby E. Neely, who died Wednesday in Watsonville. She was 88.
A native of Omaha, Mo., Mrs. Neely was a lifelong resident of that city. She fell ill eight months ago while visiting her daughter in Watsonville.
She ran her own beauty shop, La Vista Beauty Salon, out of her home from 1956 to 1981. She is the last of eight brothers and sisters.
She is survived by daughter Teresita Marchisello of Watsonville; numerous nieces and nephews; and numerous great- and great-great nieces and nephews.
Services will be private and Burial will take place in Omaha at a future date.

Mary L. Rodriguez
Services will be held in Tuscon, Ariz., for Mary L. Rodriguez, who died Thursday in Watsonville. She was 91.
A native of Arizona, Mrs. Rodriguez had lived in Watsonville for seven years.
She is survived by sisters Connie Montoya, Margaret Olson and Dolores Bridges, all of Watsonville.

Thomas Milo Powell
Services will be private for Thomas Milo Powell, who died Sept. 18 in Glenwood Springs, Colo. He was 82.
A native of Leadville, Colo., Mr. Powell had lived in Santa Cruz County since 1971. During his youth, Mr. Powell worked with his father on the railroads in Colorado and Utah. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in France in 1945 as a member of the Signal Corps. He later obtained his bachelor’s degree in engineering from UCLA and was one of the first rocket test engineers in the space program.
He worked on the first Apollo spacecraft and was later a satellite test engineer in the aerospace industry. Mr. Powell, with his wife, Thomasina, built an adobe brick house in Thousand Oaks, where they raised their family before moving to Boulder Creek in 1971. They relocated to Corralitos in 1979.
Mr. Powell was a private pilot and built and flew his own experimental "Vari Eze" airplane. He also built and flew an ultralight aircraft and enjoyed flying gliders. Some of his other interests included remote-controlled model airplanes, photography, writing computer programs, camping and boating. He and his family spent time in the Sierra every summer, especially Sequoia National Park.
He climbed Mount Whitney twice, once in just one day with his two sons and 9-year-old daughter.
Mr. Powell was a published author and enjoyed trading in the bond market. In 1953 he delivered one of his daughters in the living room. He was an avid dog lover and leaves his three beloved dogs, Taz, Ebony and Dharma. After studying with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in Switzerland in the mid-1970s, he practiced transcendental meditation and taught it in Palo Alto and Santa Cruz.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Thomasina Powell of Corralitos; daughters Teresa Wahala of Aptos, Elena Longsworth of Aptos, Sherrill Sleeter of Pleasanton and Nikki Lee Mason of Santa Rosa; son David Powell of Boulder Creek; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
His son Thomas Patrick died in 1994, and two grandchildren died before him.

Mary Araujo
Services will be Tuesday for Mary Araujo, who died Saturday at Dominican Hospital. She was 64.
Mrs. Araujo was born to Trinidad and Maria Noriega in El Centro. She grew up in Los Angeles. As a young woman, she marriage Manuel C. Araujo. The couple lived in the Imperial Valley before moving to Pescadero, where she worked for a time at the Gazos Beach House. She came to Santa Cruz in 1999.
Mrs. Araujo was a wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Manuel Araujo of Santa Cruz; sons Gilbert Araujo and Manuel Araujo Jr., both of Soquel, David Araujo of Hawaii and Samuel Araujo of Brentwood; daughters Lillian Fitzgibbons of Newark and Pearl Guerrero of Soquel; four brothers; six sisters; 65 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross Cemetery, 2271 7th Ave., Santa Cruz. Visitation will be 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz.

William Castro
Services will be Wednesday for William "Bill" Castro, who died peacefully at his Santa Cruz home Thursday. He was 76.
Mr. Castro was born in Tracy and graduated from Tracy High School, where he was active in football, basketball and baseball. He was president of his class in his junior and senior years of high school. He served on Guam with the U.S. Army Air Corps as a weather observer and has lived in the Santa Cruz area for the past 56 years.
Mr. Castro was a general contractor in the area for 20 years. While he worked as a carpenter for Norton Phelps Lumber Co., he also tended a chicken ranch in Live Oak for many years. He was also the owner/broker of Capitola Realty.
Mr. Castro was a founding member of the Live Oak Volunteer Fire Co. and served in various capacities for 31 years in the Live Oak Fire Protection District - as a volunteer firefighter, Live Oak Fire District director and fire commissioner.
Mr. Castro coached Little League in the Live Oak area for many years and was an avid Oakland A’s fan. He loved bowling, gardening, fishing and golf, taking charge of the Men’s Wednesday Senior Golf Club at Valley Gardens. He enjoyed traveling with his family throughout North America, including Hawaii, Mexico and Canada.
Mr. Castro served as an usher and as a commissioner for St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Capitola. He also was a member of SIRS, and the Italian Catholic Federation.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Inez Rose Castro of Santa Cruz; a son, Alan Castro of Santa Cruz; daughters Jeanette Caughey of Redding and Julie Castro-Orozco of El Cerrito; and two grandsons.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 435 Monterey Ave. in Capitola. Visitation will be noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel. Entombment and committal services will follow at Holy Cross Mausoleum, Santa Cruz.
Contributions are preferred to the Hospice Caring Project of Santa Cruz County or St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Elizabeth "Libby" Mine
Services will be Thursday for Elizabeth "Libby" Mine, who died Saturday in Watsonville. She was 51.
She was born in Tiburon, and had lived in the Watsonville for 23 years. She was office manager at Coastal Berry Co. in Watsonville.
She grew up in Yuma, Ariz., where she later taught at Kofa High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education at Northern Arizona University.
She was a member of the Monterey Bay Rose Society, and also enjoyed skiing, cooking and traveling.
She is survived by husband Gary Mine of Watsonville; father Harry Lattimore of Watsonville; brother Mike Gallegos of Show Low, Ariz.; and sisters Nancy Sargent of Hollister and Teresa Lattimore of Yuma.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Watsonville Buddhist Temple, 423 Bridge St.
Burial will be at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park.
Davis Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
