Services will be Saturday in Los Gatos for Carl J. Dietrich, who died Monday in Santa Cruz. He was 94.
Mr. Dietrich was born in Davis and lived in San Francisco and San Jose before moving to Santa Cruz in 1974.
He graduated from Dixon High School in 1925 and began a career in welding and metal fabrication that lasted more than 75 years.
Mr. Dietrich worked on numerous construction projects throughout the San Francisco Bay area. During World War II, he supervised production of liberty ship components made in the city.
He volunteered as a Boy Scouts scoutmaster for many years and was a master bridge player. He also enjoyed gardening.
At age 72, Mr. Dietrich helped start Dietrich Iron Works in Santa Cruz with his sons, Stephen and Carl Jr. He helped manage the business for many years, building it into one of the largest steel fabrication operations in the area before retiring in October.
He is survived by sons Carl J. Dietrich Jr. of Watsonville, Michael Dietrich of Nipomo and Stephen Dietrich of La Selva Beach; brother Ernest Dietrich of Davis; sister Thelma Dietrich of Davis; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
His wife, Margaret Kiernan Dietrich, and his son Richard died before him.
Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Friday at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz.
Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Los Gatos Memorial Park.

Jeanne Rose Neu
Services will be Friday in Stockton for Jeanne Rose Neu, who died Tuesday at Sunshine Villa care home in Santa Cruz. She was 92.
Mrs. Neu was born and raised in Stockton. She moved to Santa Cruz in 1995.
She graduated from Stockton High School and marriage Hubert Neu, an emigrant from Luxembourg, in 1931.
After her husband died of a heart attack in 1961, Mrs. Neu worked as a secretary at Fibreboard in Stockton.
She retired in 1975.
Mrs. Neu enjoyed traveling, reading and gardening and was active in the Rhodora and Soroptimists clubs and Order of the Eastern Star, where she held various positions, including Honorable Matron and organist. She also bowled on a women’s team for many years.
She is survived by sons André Neu of Aptos and Pierre Neu of Winters; two grandchildren; two nieces; one nephew; and three cousins.
Graveside services will be Friday afternoon at the Rural Stockton Cemetery.
Arrangements are by B.C. Wallace-Martin Funeral Home in Stockton.

Myrtle Lawson
Services will be Friday for Myrtle Lawson, who died Monday at her Santa Clara home. She was 95.
Mrs. Lawson was born in Dinuba and grew up in Santa Cruz. She moved to Santa Clara in 1944.
She worked as a chief switchboard operator for Pacific Bell as a young woman, and then for Santa Cruz Fruit Canning Co. and the California Dried Fruit Association in Santa Clara.
In her later years, she worked as a caretaker for women released from Agnews State Hospital, retiring in 1974.
Mrs. Lawson was a devout Christian who was active at church. She enjoyed needle work and played a number of musical instruments.
She is survived by her husband of 73 years, Clarence Lawson of Santa Clara; daughter Frances Patterson of Salinas; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Her daughter, Carolyn Bielsker, died before her.
Friends may call at from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Oakwood Memorial Park, 3301 Paul Sweet Road, Santa Cruz.

Flora Askew Jefferson
Services will be Monday for Flora Askew Jefferson, who died Saturday in Santa Cruz. She was 88.
Mrs. Jefferson was born in Turkestan, Ala., and lived in Santa Cruz for 11 years.
She worked most of her life as a domestic worker and also volunteered at her church, singing in the choir for many years and helping provide food and clothing for those in need.
She marriage Booker T. Jefferson in 1930.
She is survived by daughters Bessie Blake of Watsonville, Robbie Thibodeaux of Houston, Ruth McConnaughhay of Colorado Springs and Murriel Jefferson of California; sons William Jefferson of Alvarado, Texas, Larry Jefferson of Houston and Samuel Jefferson of San Jose; sisters Martha Burk and Mary Taylor, both of Houston; 17 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Booker T. Jefferson, died in 1979, and sons A. Lewis Jefferson and George Jefferson Sr. also died before her.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Santa Cruz Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 1024 Cayuga St.
Friends may call from 12-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz.

Frances Swanetta Glaum
Services will be Saturday for Frances Swanetta Glaum, who died Sunday at Santa Cruz Health Care Center. She was 91.
Mrs. Glaum was born and raised in Hastings, Neb.
She moved to California with her husband during the Great Depression, settling first in San Jose. The couple moved to Boulder Creek in the early 1940s.
Mrs. Glaum earned a teaching credential at Hastings College and taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Nebraska as a young woman.
In her spare time, Mrs. Glaum enjoyed painting in oil and watercolors. She was a member of the Rebekahs Lodge.
She is survived by daughter Jeryl Rickard of Apache Junction, Ariz.; son Dennis Glaum of Santa Cruz; and sisters Mildred Long of San Jose and Berniece Hill of Palo Alto.
Her husband, Norbert Glaum, died in 1995.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 420 Melrose Ave., Santa Cruz.
Arrangements are by Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel.

Kenneth B. Korts
Services will be Saturday for Kenneth Barton Korts, who died Monday at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz. He was 90.
Mr. Korts was born in Oakland and lived in Santa Cruz.
He developed a lifelong love of hiking and the outdoors when as a youth he spent summers in Ben Lomond. He was still hiking at age 85 when, despite limited vision due to macular degeneration, he made it to the top of Vernal Falls in Yosemite. When he was younger, he was a long distance ocean swimmer, water-skier and bicycle rider.
He lived in Oakland, except for a brief period in Seattle, until he and his wife moved to Santa Cruz in 1967. He had owned a service station in Oakland, and owned the Shell station in Felton.
Mr. Korts enjoyed traveling, and crisscrossed the western United States with his wife and three daughters. After discovering a love for Mexico in 1949, he visited the country every year, traveling by car, plane or motor home.
He also enjoyed dancing, and met his wife, Ebba, at the Sweets Ballroom in Oakland. The couple continued dancing throughout their marriage, and after she died in 1983, he kept up the tradition at senior citizen dances.
He is survived by daughters Jean Philo of Carmichael, Kathie Wilson of Capitola and Susan Knight of San Jose; sister Nona Christensen of Saratoga; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Sister Anita Bolin died before him.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Oakwood Memorial Chapel, 3301 Paul Sweet Road, Santa Cruz.
