Services will be Saturday for Harry H. Mayeda, who died Tuesday in Santa Cruz. He was 86.
Mr. Mayeda was born in Watsonville and lived there most of his life.
He earned a degree in agriculture from UC Davis and worked as a strawberry farmer before retirement.
He served as president of the Watsonville Bowl Co-op during the 1950s.
He enjoyed fishing and made several trips to Alaska. He followed the sporting news, particularly football, baseball and golf.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rose Mayeda of Watsonville; son Robb Mayeda of Aptos; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Westview Presbyterian, 118 First St., Watsonville. Burial at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park will be private. Davis Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Lavina Foster Ferreira
Services will be Saturday for Lavina Foster Ferreira, who died Wednesday at Watsonville Community Hospital. She was 84.
Mrs. Ferreira was born in George, Iowa, and moved to Aromas in 1975. Recently, she lived briefly in Watsonville.
She was a homemaker, and had been a Santa Cruz County foster parent for 20 years. She enjoyed quilting, and was a founding member of the Pajaro Valley Quilting Association.
She was godmother to Michelle Durden of Aromas.
She is survived by daughter Cheri Feiner of Oakland; and four sisters and two brothers in Iowa and Minnesota.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel, 222 E. Lake Ave., Watsonville.

Carla Melody
Services will be Jan. 11 for Carla Melody, who died Tuesday of heart failure. She was 55. She was celebrating Christmas with loved ones when she died.
After graduating from San Jose State University with a master’s degree in psychology, she opened a counseling practice in Santa Cruz County. She operated the practice for 20 years, fulfilling her dream of helping others.
Her family described her as "an extremely generous, loving woman, completely devoted to her family and friends. She is greatly loved and will be tremendously missed by so many."
They said art and photography were her passions, and she enjoyed music and reading.
She is survived by daughter Mary Joe Becker; son Brad Becker; brother Bill Melody; three grandchildren; and other family members.
Services will be 11 a.m. Jan. 11th at Our Lady Star Of The Sea Church, 515 Frederick St., Santa Cruz.
Contributions are preferred to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, a world hunger organization or an organization dedicated to world peace.

Mary A. Todd
Services will be Jan. 4 for Mary A. Todd, who died Thursday at the Sunbridge Convalescent Home in Watsonville after a long illness. She was 67.
A native of Fresno, she came to Watsonville in 1956. A graduate of Watsonville High School and Cabrillo College, she enjoyed working with the Watsonville City Council and had many other civic duties.
She attended Mt. Olive Church of God in Christ in Pajaro, and was active in the choir until her illness.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Leroy Todd Sr. of Watsonville; sons Leroy Todd Jr. of San Jose and Allen B. Todd of Watsonville; daughters Sandra Miller of Watsonville and Margie Meyer of Sandpoint, Idaho; brother David Allison of Watsonville; sisters Odessa Hodge of Luftkin, Texas, and Charlene Lowery of Santa Cruz; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m., Jan. 4 in the Community Center at 2030 Pajaro Lane, Freedom.
Contributions are preferred to the American Cancer Society.

Leslie H. Hunter
Services will be Monday for Leslie H. Hunter, who died Tuesday. He was 90.
Mr. Hunter was born in Indiana and raised in Wisconsin. As a young man he worked in Chicago, then had a career on the Union Pacific railroad as a dining car steward.
During World War II, he served in the Navy in the Pacific Theater for 3½ years. He later settled in Santa Cruz and worked at the post office for 30 years.
Mr. Hunter will be remembered as a devoted father and husband who enjoyed travel, reading and volunteerism, his family said. He loved his church and was a member of National Association Of Retired Federal Employees, Seniors In Retirement, and the Santa Cruz Opera Society.
Loved ones said he had a wonderful gift of sharing rich memories and stories with family and friends.
His first wife, Mary, died in 1974. He is survived by his second wife, Lilli; son Bruce Hunter and daughter-in-law Krislyn Hunter; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Monday at High Street Community Church, 850 High St., Santa Cruz.

Jose Chavez Perez
Services will be Monday for Jose Chavez Perez, who died Wednesday at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz. He was 54.
A native of Mexico City, Mr. Perez worked for more than 15 years at Stagnaro’s on the Municipal Wharf.
He was a member of the Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Santa Cruz. His family said he was devoted to his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Maria Chavez of Santa Cruz; sons Oscar Chavez of Santa Cruz and Antonio Chavez of Chicago; daughter Maribel Chavez of Atlanta, Ga.; brothers Rodolfo Chavez, David Chavez and Faustino Chavez, all of Santa Cruz, and Angel Chavez of Mexico; sisters Aurelia Pintor and Rosa Chavez, both of Santa Cruz; and five grandchildren.
Friends may call from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 515 Frederick St., Santa Cruz.
He will be buried in Guanajuato, Mexico. Arrangements are under the direction of the chapel.

Dorothy Sayre Wood
Services will be Friday for Dorothy Sayre Wood, who died Dec. 12 in Claremont. She was 86.
Mrs. Wood lived in Santa Cruz her entire life before moving to Claremont in 1996. She graduated from Santa Cruz High School in 1933. Mrs. Wood was a member of Lily Wild Chapter No. 18 Order of Eatern Star, Santa Cruz.
She is survived by son Andy Wood of San Diego; daughter Jeanie Doland of Upland; and four grandchildren.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Oakwood Memorial Park Crystal Chapel, 3301 Paul Sweet Road, Santa Cruz.

Robert ‘Bob’ Lee Silva
Services will be Monday for Robert "Bob" Lee Silva, who died Wednesday in Copperopolis. He was 67.
Mr. Silva was born in Redwood City and lived in Santa Cruz for 27 years. He graduated from Sequoia High School in Redwood City.
Mr. Silva had owned S and S Trophies in Soquel and and Coast Lighting in Santa Cruz.
Mr. Silva volunteered at Meals on Wheels in Sonora. He was a member of the Elks Club and enjoyed fishing, boating, bowling, gambling and cooking for family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lea Silva of Copperopolis; daughter Michelle Whiting of Soquel; son Brook Silva of Jamestown; brothers Donny Silva of Half Moon Bay, and Ernie Silva of Reno; grandmother Alice Silva of San Mateo; four grandchildren; seven nieces; five nephews; three aunts; and two uncles.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Terzich and Wilson Mortuary, 225 Rose St., Sonora. A reception will follow at the Sierra Foothill Senior Center, 540 Greenley Road, Sonora.
