Services will be Friday for Donald Theodore Winston, who died Thursday. He was 82.
Mr. Winston was a native of Chicago and had lived in Boulder Creek for the past 33 years.
He was self-employed insurance broker.
He was an active member of the Lions Club, spending many hours promoting and supporting the organization’s various community service efforts such as the Lions Eye Foundation.
He is survived by wife Clara Winston; daughters Donna Quinn of Navarre, Fla., Karen Kline of Riverside and Rochelle Davies of Boulder Creek; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
His sister, Bernice Temple, died before him.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Boulder Creek United Methodist Church.

Jack L. Silvey
Burial services will be private for Jack Luttrell Silvey, who died May 6 in Santa Rosa. He was 80.
Mr. Silvey was born and raised in Santa Cruz County. After he graduated from Santa Cruz High School in 1939, he served in the Coast Guard from 1941 to 1945. He was a member of the Navy League of Humboldt County.
Mr. Silvey graduated from San Jose State University in 1948 with honors in journalism. He was a news editor for the Palo Alto Times and assistant managing editor for the Peninsula Times-Tribune for 30 years. After he retired in 1983, he contributed articles to The Humboldt Historian, Arcata Union and served as an editor for The Humboldt Historian and Habitat for Humanity.
He also served as an Elder and Deacon for the First Presbyterian Church of Eureka.
Mr. Silvey is survived by his wife, Patricia Silvey; sisters Pearl Rossi of Santa Cruz and Dylys Hansen of Talent, Ore.; a brother, Fenten Silvey of Gardnerville, Nev.; daughters Joan Silvey of British Columbia, Canada, and Gail Kallas of Milwaukee, Wis.; a son, Bruce Silvey of Kneeland; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
His brother Roy Silvey and sister Faye Belardi died before him.

The Rev. Lorena Bryan
Services will be Wednesday for the Rev. Lorena Bryan who died Saturday. She was 81.
Mrs. Bryan, a 55-year resident of Santa Cruz and a native of Arkansas, was a member of Pacific Christian Fellowship in Santa Cruz and a past president of the Licensed Vocational Nurse’s Association.
Mrs. Bryan is survived by her son Tom Bryan of Colfax; her daughter Carolyn Stephenson of Santa Cruz; and sisters Ella Jo Yandell and Marie Garrett of Arkansas.
She is also survived four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Pacific Christian Church, 2245 Capitola Road, Santa Cruz. Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m.
Contributions are preferred to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Sydna R. Kissam
Sydna "Tracey" Rose Kissam, a Watsonville resident, died Wednesday. She was 60.
Mrs. Kissam was born in Texas and raised in Hollywood.
She attended the Mount St. Mary’s Nursing School in Los Angeles. She was a nurse at the Valley Convalescent Hospital in Watsonville for 18 years.
She enjoyed reading, spending time with her family and cats, visiting Las Vegas and making donations to various animal charities.
Mrs. Kissam is survived by her husband, Richard Kissam; stepsons Todd Kissam of Orange and Brian Kissam of Corona; sister Nancy Harris of Corralitos; two grandchildren; a niece; and two nephews.

Michael W. Healy
Private services will be Sunday for Michael William Healy, who died May 20 in Los Gatos. He was 41.
Mr. Healy was born in Washington and had lived in Santa Cruz County for 30 years.
He enjoyed photography, roller-skating, sailing and rock climbing. He also enjoyed spending time with niece Michelle Healy of Aptos.
He was a machinist for Loral Inc. for 13 years.
Mr. Healy is survived by his father, Robert Healy; stepmother Jackie Healy of Lodi; brothers Colby Alonzo of Washington, Mark Healy of Potter Valley and Brett Price of Ukiah; and a niece.
His sister, Lisa, died before him.
Burial will be at Lower Lake Cemetery in Lower Lake.

Villy L. Peterson
Private services were Friday for Villy L. Peterson, who died Wednesday in Santa Cruz. He was 82.
Mr. Peterson was born and raised in Denmark. He later worked in Kenya and Tanzania in hospital construction and maintenance.
He moved to the United States in 1958 with his wife, Synnove, settling in Santa Cruz. He helped to build Santa Cruz Community Hospital.
The Petersons purchased the Fireside Care Home in 1973 and provided care to local elderly residents.
Mr. Peterson is survived by his wife of 47 years, Synnove of Aptos; sons Stanley Peterson of Redlands, Glenn Peterson of Aptos and John Peterson of Georgia; daughter Ruth Walker of Texas; sisters Victoria Hansen of Denmark and Ela Almin of Sweden; and a granddaughter.
Mr. Peterson was preceded in death by eight brothers and a sister.

Brian C. Garcia
Memorial services will be Wednesday for Brian Christopher Garcia, who died Thursday at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz. He was 16.
Mr. Garcia was born and raised in Santa Cruz.
A student at Soquel High School, he enjoyed playing sports and playing the trumpet in the school band.
He was a member of the school’s basketball and football teams. He earned several trophies from the many sports teams he played for.
Mr. Garcia was an avid sports fan of the Golden State Warriors, San Jose Sharks and the World Wrestling Federation.
Mr. Garcia enjoyed spending time with his family, taking trips to the Caribbean and Las Vegas, and fishing with his grandfather, Arther Page.
He enjoyed being with his friends and family and playing with children.
He was a member of the Twin Lakes Youth Activity Program for the past three years.
Mr. Garcia is survived by his parents, Jorge and Tammy Garcia of Santa Cruz; sister Marissa Garcia of Santa Cruz; uncles Manuel Garcia of Santa Cruz and Mike Melville of Soquel; aunts Mary Melville of Soquel, Dawn Olson of San Leandro and Michele Garcia of Santa Cruz; and grandparents Emerio and Eloisa Garcia of Santa Cruz and Arther and Laurie Page of Smith River; and several cousins.
A memorial service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at Twin Lakes Baptist Church in Aptos, 2701 Cabrillo College Drive.

Evelyn K. Brown
Services will be private for Evelyn Kelly Brown, who died Tuesday in Monterey. She was 91.
Mrs. Brown was born in Santa Cruz. She was a life-long resident of Santa Cruz until she moved to Pacific Grove and Carmel in 1992. She was the descendent of a pioneering family, who lived in Santa Cruz for many years.
She attended Santa Cruz elementary and junior high schools until she moved to Berkeley with her family. She graduated from high school in Berkeley. After high school, she attended UC Berkeley and graduated in 1930.
She was self-employed as the owner of Brown’s Barn, a clothing and gift shop. She established stores in Santa Cruz, Soquel and Carmel over 42 years.
Her family and friends will remember for her perseverance and hard working personality.
After retirement, she enjoyed traveling, reading, and attending creative writing classes.
Mrs. Brown is survived by daughter Susan Brown Anderson; and three grandchildren.
Her sister, Dr. Isabel Kelly, died before her.
Mrs. Brown will be cremated under the direction of The Paul Mortuary. Inurnment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery.
