Darla Kathleen Gafford
Services will be Jan. 26 for Darla Kathleen Gafford, who died Jan. 7 in Santa Cruz. She was 33.
Mrs. Gafford was born in Redwood City. She had lived in Santa Cruz for one year.
She is survived by her parents, Kathleen Gafford of Santa Cruz and David Gafford of Palm Springs; son Nathan Manrique of Los Angeles; sister Brigette Gafford of Santa Cruz; grandmother Lorraine Gafford of Palm Springs; grandfather Doug Tyson of Newark; two nieces; and one nephew.
Services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Oakwood Memorial Crystal Chapel.
Contributions are preferred to the Betty Ford Center Children’s Program, 39000 Bob Hope Drive, Rancho Mirage, CA 92270.
Arrangements are by Santa Cruz Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Harold Gilbert Miller
Services will be Feb. 16 for Harold Gilbert Miller, who died Thursday in Watsonville. He was 87.
Mr. Miller was born in Woodburn, Ore., and lived in Watsonville.
He worked as a wholesale meat salesman for 50 years. He was a member of Masonic organizations and SIRS.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Louise June Miller; daughters Marilyn Freeman of Papillon, Neb., and Barbara Holt of Rocklin; brothers Lloyd Miller of Watsonville and Wayne Miller of Cotati; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Feb. 16 at Davis Memorial Chapel, 609 Main St., Watsonville. A reception will follow at a local restaurant. Cremation will be private.
Contributions are preferred to donor’s favorite charity or to Hospice Caring Project of Santa Cruz County, 6851 Soquel Drive, Aptos, CA 95003.

Maria R. Jimenez
Services will be Wednesday for Maria R. Jimenez, who died Friday at her Watsonville home after a long illness. She was 73.
Mrs. Jimenez was born in Jamay, Jalisco, Mexico, and had lived in Watsonville since 1943. She worked for 30 years at area canneries, most recently at Green Giant and Watsonville Canning Co.
After suffering a stroke, she enjoyed attending the Cabrillo College Stroke Center at DeLaveaga Park in Santa Cruz. Her dog, Chiquita, was a favorite companion.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Alejo Jimenez of Watsonville; sons Alejandro Jimenez of Mexico, Ray Jimenez of Salinas, and Jose, Tony and Jesse Jimenez of Watsonville; daughters Mary Madrigal of Watsonville, Eva Jimenez of Oxnard, Linda Ousley of Kentucky, Gloria Sanchez of Watsonville, and Susan Fernandez of Watsonville; brothers Ramiro Rodriguez of Mexico and Guadalupe Rodriguez of Watsonville; sisters Carmen Gutierrez and Maria Del Refugio Gonzalez of Watsonville, and Dolores Castellanos of Mexico; 58 grandchildren; 24 great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her sons Alejandro and Pablo Jimenez and brothers Miguel and Julian Rodriguez, died before her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady Help of Christians Valley Catholic Church, 2401 E. Lake Ave., Watsonville. Burial will follow at Valley Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. today at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel, 222 E. Lake Ave., Watsonville. The rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. today at Our Lady Help of Christians, where friends may call until 9 p.m.

Dorothy G. Fleming
Services will be Feb. 6 for Dorothy G. Fleming, who died Wednesday at Dominican Hospital. She was 91.
Mrs. Fleming was born in San Jose. She lived in Los Gatos for many years before moving to Santa Cruz in 1953.
She graduated from Notre Dame High School. She volunteered at the Goodwill Industries Gift Shop and was a Pink Lady at Dominican Hospital. She was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church and Dominican Oaks.
She is survived by daughters Norma Fleming Kriege of Capitola and Barbara Fleming Samper of Danville; brother Donald D. Geoffroy of Saratoga; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Her husband of 67 years, Morey Benedict Fleming, died in 1997.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 6 at Dominican Oaks, 3400 Paul Sweet Road, Santa Cruz. Arrangements are by Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel.

John H. Middleton
Services will be Monday for John H. Middleton, who died Thursday in Watsonville. He was 86.
Mr. Middleton was born in Oklahoma. A California resident since 1936, he moved to the Watsonville area 60 years ago.
He was a painter for Malsbury Painting for many years before retiring in 1978. He was a board member and deacon at the Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed bowling and fishing.
He is survived by wife of 29 years, Lorene Middleton of Watsonville; and several nieces and nephews.
Services are at 5 p.m. Monday at Church of the Nazarene, 710 Green Valley Road, Watsonville. Friends may call from 1-5 p.m. today, 1-4 p.m., Sunday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday at Davis Memorial Chapel, 609 Main St., Watsonville.
Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pioneer Cemetery in Freedom.

James ‘Jim’ Peter McLoughlin
Services will be Feb. 23 for James "Jim" Peter McLoughlin, who died Sunday at his Santa Cruz home. He was 87.
Mr. McLoughlin was born in Tonapah, Nev. He had lived in Santa Cruz County since 1960.
He retired as president of the United Food and Commercial Workers, Local 428 in 1981. He was an active participant of the Federation of Retired Union Members, UFCW Local 428 Retirees Club, Santa Cruz Democratic Women’s Club, Santa Cruz People’s Democratic Club, and the UFCW International Unions Retirees Club.
Mr. Mcloughlin enjoyed helping people.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Lucille DeLu McLoughlin of Santa Cruz; daughters Patricia "Patti" F. Brady and Claudia J. Wallace-Place, both of Santa Cruz; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
His first wife, Myra B. Eaton McLoughlin, and granddaughter Carolen Marie Wallace died before him.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Feb. 23 at the UFCW Hall, 240 South Market St., San Jose.
Arrangements are by the Neptune Society.
Contributions are preferred to the Labor Archives and Research Center, 480 Winston Drive, San Francisco, CA 94132, or a charity of choice.

Robert ‘Bob’ L. Saso
Services will be Feb. 2 for Robert L. "Bob" Saso, who died Monday of colon cancer. He was 58.
Mr. Saso was born in Hayward, and had lived in Felton since 1955. He owned Saso Construction Paving Co.
Mr. Saso had a passion for gardening and growing herbs at his home, which he referred to as Saso Herb Gardens. He was an avid softball player. His coed team of family and friends, the Blue Jays, won a championship in his honor in November.
He is survived by wife Susan Saso of Felton; sons Bill and David Saso, both of Felton; daughters Rebecca Vincent of Boulder Creek and Tina Saso of Santa Cruz; stepdaughters Erin Larsen of Felton and Kathleen Garcia of Garberville; stepson Brian Elliott of San Jose; parents Louis and Virginia Saso of Santa Cruz; brothers Steven Saso of Milpitas, Michael Saso of Santa Cruz, Tom Saso of Boulder Creek and Christopher Saso of San Jose; sisters Carolyn Ormond of Garberville and Mary Lou Habecker of Felton; 12 grandchildren; two aunts; one uncle; 11 nieces and nephews; and many cousins.
Services are at 11 a.m. Feb. 2 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Felton. Arrangements are by Santa Cruz Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Contributions are preferred to the Hospice Caring Project of Santa Cruz, 6851 Soquel Drive, Aptos, CA 95003.

James W. Clark
Services will be Feb. 4 for James W. Clark, who died Wednesday at Dominican Hospital. He was 73.
Mr. Clark was born in Colby, Kan., and moved to Aromas as a young child. He attended Aromas Elementary School and graduated from Watsonville High School.
He worked at the Granite Rock Co. quarry, and later for the state Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. He retired from CDF after working 25 years as a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed working with wood and metal.
He is survived by son Jeff Clark of Aromas; daughter Jackie Yamashita of Aromas; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
His wife, Joy Clark, died in March.
A Catholic service will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 4 at Mission San Juan Bautista.
Arrangements are by Mehl’s Colonial Chapel.
