George E. Allen
Services will be Friday for George E. Allen, who died Saturday at Watsonville Community Hospital after a brief illness. He was 83.
Mr. Allen was born in Newcastle and lived in Watsonville since 1953.
He served in the Army Air Force during World War II and worked as a produce inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 37 years.
Mr. Allen is survived by sons Mike and Bill Allen, both of Watsonville; daughters Beth Baughman of Florida, Terri Rush of Gonzales and Kathy Peterson of Albuquerque; a brother, Don Allen of Willows; sisters Dell Fortune of San Jose, Lorraine Bumb of San Jose and Elva Bumb of Carmel; and three grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park. The Rev. Ernie Miller of Corralitos Community Church will officiate.

Hank Turley
Services will be July 20 for Hank Turley, who died unexpectedly Wednesday at a local hospital. He was 57.
Mr. Turley was born in San Jose and lived in Soquel for 11 years.
He was a devout Dharma practitioner and a benefactor of Buddhist activities all over the world.
Mr. Turley owned a palm tree business.
He is survived by a son, Shane Turley of Soquel; daughters Darshon and Sahara Turley, both of Soquel; a sister, Margaret Turley of Santa Barbara; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 5 p.m. July 20 at Land of the Medicine Buddha.

Samuel Abitbol
Private family services were held for Samuel Abitbol, who died Wednesday. He was 89.
Mr. Abitbol was a Sephardic Jew born in the ancient city of Fez, Morocco.
Business adventures led him to many parts of the world. His children were born in Casablanca, Haiti and Florence.
Mr. Abitbol immigrated to the United States with his wife and five children in 1959, settling in Los Angeles, after being forced out of Morocco. He did not speak English at the time, but family members say his determination and will enabled him to provide for his family.
He owned a second home in Santa Cruz for several years and moved to Santa Cruz permanently earlier this year.
Mr. Abitbol was a founding member of Temple Em Habanim in Los Angeles. He was proud of his heritage, family members say.
Mr. Abitbol enjoyed riding horses, playing poker and exercising at health clubs.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sonia Addi Abitbol of Santa Cruz; sons Robert Abitbol of Hollywood, Larry Abitbol of Soquel and Alan Abitbol of Southport, Australia; daughters Danielle Horowitz of Los Angeles and Faye Abitbol of Santa Cruz; brothers Al Abitbol of Rio de Janeiro; David Abitbol of Mexico City and Maurice Abitbol of Venezuela; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A family graveside service was Thursday at Home of Peace Cemetery in Santa Cruz.

Theresa H. Gallus
At her request, no services will be held for Theresa H. Gallus, who died Sunday at her Santa Cruz home. She was 88.
Mrs. Gallus was born in Los Angeles and lived in Alameda for many years. She moved to the Santa Cruz area 15 years ago.
Mrs. Gallus worked as a bookkeeper for Del Monte Foods for many years and continued her career after the 1951 death of her husband, putting her children through college.
She was an avid tennis fan, and in her younger years enjoyed playing the game. She was a member of the Eagles Lodge.
Mrs. Gallus is survived by a son, Paul Gallus of Soquel; a daughter, Judy Courtney of Bellevue, Wash.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel.

Naomi Grested
No services are planned for Naomi Grested, who died Friday in Capitola. She was 89.
Ms. Grested was born in Chicago and moved to Santa Cruz in 1972.
She earned a nursing degree in Chicago in 1933, and a master’s degree in occupational health from UCLA.
Ms. Grested taught at California State University at Northridge, and also worked for the state as a nurse and administrator.
She loved to travel and read.
Ms. Grested is survived by a cousin, Christiana Hydrick of West Valley, Utah.

Jose Isaias Negrete II
Services will be Saturday for Jose Isaias Negrete II, who died June 16 after a car accident in Bakersfield. He was 39.
A native of Mexico, he lived in Watsonville for 15 years. He last worked for Tri-County Landscape as a forklift driver. A member of St. Patrick’s Church, he enjoyed fishing with his children.
He is survived by his wife, Guadalupe Negrete of Watsonville, son Isaias of Watsonville, daughter Bianca of Watsonville, brothers Mario Negrete and David Negrete, both of Mexico and sisters Patricia Negrete of Mexico and Sonia Negrete Renteria of Watsonville.
A memorial Mass will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Church, 721 Main St., Watsonville.
Arrangements are by Mehl’s Colonial Chapel, 222 E. Lake Ave., Watsonville.

Ruth Currie
Services will be Tuesday for Ruth Currie, who died Monday at her Paradise Park home. She was 92.
Mrs. Currie lived 50 years in Redwood City before moving to Santa Cruz 35 years ago. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the First Congregational Church in Redwood City. Mrs. Currie was a soloist in her church choir for many years and enjoyed gardening and collecting recipes.
She is survived by daughter Joanne Nelson; son Robert Currie; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Her husband Lang Currie died before her.
A graveside service is at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Alta Mesa Memorial Park, 695 Arastradero Road, Palo Alto. A memorial service will be at a later date.
Contributions are preferred to the First Congregational Church of Redwood City or to a favorite charity.
Arrangements are by Santa Cruz Memorial Park and Funeral Home.
