Services will be Sunday for Emily Jean McKown, who died June 23 in Santa Cruz. She was 74.
Mrs. McKown was born in St. Louis, Mo. She was a longtime resident of Santa Monica before moving to Santa Cruz in 1993.
Mrs. McKown attended Julliard School of Music and was a concert violinist. She performed in the Bach Festival in Carmel.
She is survived by daughters Karen Foss and Susan McKown, both of Santa Cruz, Sharon D’Andrea of Watsonville, Emily Jean Evans of Olympia, Wash., and Mary Lou Saucedo of Arizona; son Emil McKown of Arizona; sister Charlotte Monroe of Aptos; brothers Robert Guest of Saratoga and James Guest of Arizona; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services are at 11 a.m. Sunday at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz.

Thomas C. Neal
Servcies will be July 20 and Aug. 17 for Thomas C. Neal, who died Saturday at his Scotts Valley home. He was 69.
A native of San Francisco, Mr. Neal graduated from Lincoln High School and UC Berkeley. He was a resident of Litchfield Park, Ariz., and Scotts Valley. Mr. Neal was former owner of Brooks Equipment Co.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Tobianne Neal of Scotts Valley and Litchfield Park; daughter Melinda Bastedo of West Sacramento; sons Peter Neal of Charlotte, N.C., David Neal of Litchfield Park, and Jeffrey Neal of South Lake Tahoe; nine grandchildren; and one niece.
Services are at 1 p.m. July 20 at Mount Hermon Christian Conference Center, and at 1 p.m. Aug. 17 at the First Baptist Church of Litchfield Park. Burial will be at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo.
Arrangements are by Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel.

Margarito Muñoz
Services are today for Margarito Muñoz, who died Tuesday at Watsonville Community Hospital. He was 79.
Mr. Muñoz was born in Santiago Papas Quiaro, Durango, Mexico. He had lived in Watsonville for 22 years.
Mr. Muñoz worked for various farms for 15 years. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church and enjoyed horses, wildlife, trips to Durango, singing and working in his vegetable garden.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Maria Muñoz of Watsonville; sons Juan Muñoz of Chicago, Jose Muñoz of Oklahoma and Albert Muñoz of Watsonville; daughters Maria Luisa Muñoz of Durango, Margarita Muñoz of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, Otilia Muñoz of Phoenix, Ariz., Enriqueta de la Cruz and Duvina Rodriguez, both of Fremont, Socorro Fonseca and Consuelo de la Cruz, both of Santa Maria and Maria Gutierrez of Watsonville; five brothers; two sisters; 41 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
His son Jose Alberto and daughter Dolores died before him.
A Mass of Christian Burial is at 9 a.m. today at St. Patrick’s Church in Watsonville. Burial will be in Mexico.

Taube Rose Caraco
Services were held for Taube Rose Caraco, who died Monday at her Santa Cruz home. She was 93.
Mrs. Caraco was born in Vienna, Austria. She was a longtime resident of Los Angeles, moving there in 1927. She came to Santa Cruz two years ago.
Mrs. Caraco was a lifetime member of Hadassah, The Democratic Party and an active member of Women for Legislative Action. She enjoyed hosting parties, travel and art.
She is survived by daughters Judy Caraco, Louise Caraco and Marcia Heinegg, all of Santa Cruz; sisters Esther Weinberger of Los Angeles and Ruth Morgenstern and Naddie Learner, both of La Jolla; and one granddaughter.
Her husband, Maurice Caraco, died in 2000.
Services were held Thursday in Los Angeles.
Arrangements are by Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel.

Arthur J. Turner
Services are private for Arthur J. Turner, who died Feb. 18 at his Santa Cruz home. He was 70.
Mr. Turner was born in San Francisco. He was a longtime resident of San Ramon before moving to Santa Cruz in 1991.
Mr. Turner was an Army veteran and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7263 in Santa Cruz. He worked at the Chevron station at 41st Avenue and Capitola Road for five years.
His parents and a brother died before him.

Charles P. Hedges
No services are planned for Charles P. Hedges, who died Feb. 16 at the VA Hospice Ward in Palo Alto. He was 87.
Mr. Hedges was born in Belgian Congo, Africa. He moved to Kentucky in 1928, and settled in Santa Cruz 10 years ago.
Mr. Hedges was a Navy veteran of World War II and worked for many years as city engineer in Phoenix, Ariz., where he helped start the Hospice project.
Mr. Hedges was a member of Mensa, in which he was known for an high IQ in 99.7 percentile. He was also active in the American Humanist Association. In Santa Cruz, he volunteered at Grey Bears and at a senior center.
He is survived by wife Freda Hedges of Santa Cruz, daughters Nancy Sours and Jeanne Bartfai, both of the Phoenix area; stepson Allen Morris of Fort Bragg; stepdaughter Crystal Morris of Occidental; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Constance Carpenter
Services will be Monday for Constance "Connie" Carpenter, who died Tuesday in Stockton. She was 58.
Mrs. Carpenter was born in Holdrege, Neb. She had lived in Santa Cruz since she was 2 years old, moving to Stockton in 1986.
Mrs. Carpenter was a homemaker and a member of Lincoln Presbyterian Church in Stockton. She enjoyed crocheting and baking.
She is survived by daughter Shelly McLean of Stockton; sons Mark Carpenter of Felton and Timothy Carpenter of Santa Cruz; brothers Ronald Taylor of Manteca, and Larry Taylor of Cerritos; and one granddaughter.
Her husband, Donald Carpenter, parents John and Phyllis Taylor and brother Richard Taylor died before her.
Graveside services are at 10 a.m. Monday at Cherokee Memorial Park. Memorial services will follow at 11 a.m. at Lincoln Presbyterian Church, 900 Douglas Road, Stockton.
Friends may call from 1-6 p.m. Sunday at Gierhart-Wells and Donahue Funeral Home, 123 N. School St., Lodi.

Alicia Arreola
Services will be Monday for Alicia Arreola, who died Tuesday at Watsonville Hospital. She was 73.
Mrs. Arreola was born in Chupicuaro, Mexico. She had lived in Watsonville for 33 years.
Mrs. Arreola was a member of Assumption Church. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, shopping and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by husband Bonifacio Arreola of Watsonville; sons Francisco and Tobias Arreola, both of Salinas, Martin Arreola of Watsonville, and Pedro Arreola of Los Angeles; daughters Catalina Dominguez of Salinas, Amelia Skeel of Watsonville, and Socorro Bueno of Dallas, Texas; brothers Felimon, Ricardo and Antonio Perez, all of Mexico, Simon and Tomas Perez, both of Greenfield, Ruben Perez of Soledad, and Jose Perez of Watsonville; sisters Agustina Figueroa of Castroville and Esperanza Rodriguez and Sister Dorotea Perez, both of Mexico; and 17 grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial is at noon Monday at Assumption Church. Burial will follow at Pioneer Cemetery.

Harold L. Butcher
Services were Wednesday for Harold L. Butcher, who died Sunday in Watsonville. He was 82.
Mr. Butcher was born in South Dakota and lived in Watsonville for 24 years. He retired from the juvenile system in El Centro.
Mr. Butcher served in the Army during World War II and was a member of the Freedom chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He loved big-band music from the 1930s and ’40s and was an avid Washington Redskins fan.
He is survived by his wife, Isabelle C. Butcher of Watsonville; son Harold Butcher Jr. of Imperial County; daughters Susie Ludlow of El Centro, Martha E. Needham of Escondido and Harriet Scott of Imperial; sister Wanda Saindon of Santa Cruz; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
His brother, Glenn Butcher of Santa Cruz, died before him.
Graveside services were Wednesday at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park.
