Services are Monday for Maryann Alves, who died Wednesday in Santa Cruz. She was 89.
Mrs. Alves was born in Liverpool, England, and came to the United States as an infant. She lived in Oakland many years before moving to Santa Cruz in the 1960s.
Mrs. Alves was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, and attending Knights of Columbus functions.
She is survived by sons Ronald Clark of Scotts Valley and John Clark of San Jose; daughters Janet Burke of Castro Valley and Patricia Heimer of Los Gatos; brother Jack Jones of San Leandro; 11 grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren.
Her husband, John Alves, died in 1984.
A Mass of Christian Burial is 11:30 a.m. Monday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Contributions are preferred to Star Outreach, 515 Frederick Street, Santa Cruz, CA 95062.
Arrangements are by Benito and Azzaro Pacific Garden Chapel.

Armando Sanchez
Services are today for Armando Sanchez, who died Tuesday at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital of leukemia. He was 5.
Armando was born in Watsonville and moved to Castroville last year. He was a kindergartner at Elkhorn School in Castroville.
He is survived by parents Rosa and Jose Sanchez of Castroville; brother Jose Julian Sanchez of Castroville; sisters Blanca Estella Sanchez and Angelica Sanchez, both of Castroville; grandmothers Simona Saavedra of Chula Vista, and Trinidad Hernandez of Tijuana; several aunts and uncles; and numerous cousins.
Services are 9 a.m. today at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel. Burial will follow at Pajaro Valley Cemetery.
Contributions to help defray funeral costs are preferred to Mehl’s Colonial Chapel, 222 East Lake Ave., Watsonville, CA 95076.

Laura Marengo
No services are planned for Laura Marengo, who died April 4 in Santa Cruz. She was 92.
Mrs. Marengo was born in Stockton and lived in Santa Cruz for the past 16 years. She played the organ for silent movies in the 1920s and later at church services. .
She is survived by grandson Michael Canepa of Santa Cruz.
Her husband, Gene Marengo, daughter, Carma Canepa, and granddaughter Laurie Canepa, died before her.

Veva J. Gunderson
No services are planned for Veva Johnson Gunderson, who died Thursday in Santa Cruz. She was 100.
Mrs. Gunderson was born in Kechi, Kan., lived in Imperial Valley for 10 years and San Fernando before moving to Santa Cruz in 1960. She was an escrow officer at Security Pacific Bank in Los Angeles.
Mrs. Gunderson enjoyed playing bridge and bingo.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Walter Gunderson, died in 1967.
Mrs. Gunderson’s ashes will be taken to Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale.
Contributions are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Arrangements are by Santa Cruz Memorial Park and Funeral Home.

Joseph Matarazzo
Services are Monday for Joseph Matarazzo, who died Thursday at Dominican Hospital. He was 85.
Mr. Matarazzo was born in Boston and moved to Santa Cruz in 1962. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
Mr. Matarazzo taught special education at schools in San Benito County, Fremont, Beverly Hills, Palm Springs and Las Vegas. He enjoyed philosophy and reading.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ann Matarazzo of Santa Cruz; sons Michael Matarazzo of Santa Cruz and Stephen Matarazzo of Aptos; brother Michael Matarazzo of Boston; sister Jean DiLorenzo of Watertown, Mass.; and three granddaughters.
Services are 3 p.m. Monday at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Friends may call 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.

Henry L. Martin
Services will be out of the area for Henry L. Martin, who died from cancer Saturday at his home in Las Vegas. He was 54.
Mr. Martin was born in Detroit, Mich. He has been a Santa Cruz resident for the last 20 years, interspersed with time spent in Las Vegas. While living in Santa Cruz he was employed as a real estate agent. He enjoyed surfing and golfing.
He is survived by his wife, Lydia Martin of Henderson, Nev., his daughter, Christa Martin of Santa Cruz, his son, Michael Martin of Santa Cruz, and his mother, Ann Borkgren of Seal Beach.
Services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday in Nevada. Interment will be private.

Catherine S. Green
No services are planned for Catherine Sanders Green, who died Monday at the Driftwood nursing home in Santa Cruz. She was 87.
Mrs. Green was born in Merton, England, became a U.S. citizen in 1960 after moving to California with her husband, Harold Green.
During World War II, she worked for the China Relief Agency and the Red Cross.
In California she was a secretary at Stanford University and later worked as the city of Campbell’s personnel director.
The couple enjoyed a life of travel and theater.
He was director of Seniorama in Santa Cruz and she acted in may of the productions.
Mrs. Green loved animals and liked to write poetry.
She is survived by nieces and nephews in England.
Santa Cruz Memorial Park is handling arrangements. She will be cremated, and her ashes scattered at sea.
