Services will be private for Nada L. Adams, who died Wednesday at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz. She was 76.
She was born in Taft and had lived in Santa Cruz County for more than 20 years.
She enjoyed reading, watching the San Francisco 49ers and cooking. She also liked to entertain, and her home was a gathering place on holidays.
She is survived by son Richard Adams of San Jose; daughters Jan Thomas of Alliance, Ohio, and Sue Kalakosky of Blithe; brother Gordon Lepper of Gilroy; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Her husband of 54 years, Lee Roy Adams, and brother Robert Lepper died before her.
A private memorial service will be held later. Cremation is private. Mehl’s Colonial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Janie M. Gomez
Services will be Friday for Janie M. Gomez, who died Tuesday in Watsonville after a long illness. She was 53.
Mrs. Gomez was born in Santa Cruz, and lived in Watsonville for the past 28 years.
She graduated from Santa Cruz High School, and worked at Valley Heights in Watsonville for seven years. More recently, she has been caring for her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 28 years, David Gomez of Watsonville; son, David Paul Gomez of Watsonville; daughters Ruth Ann Gomez of Watsonville and Sabrina Shaver of Santa Cruz; sister, Christine Calderon of Reno, Nev.; mother, Anna Marie Mathews of Santa Cruz; and two grandchildren.
Her father, John M. Walczak, died before her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 721 Main St., Watsonville. Burial will follow at Valley Cemetery. A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel, 222 East Lake Ave., Watsonville. Friends may visit from 5-9 p.m. today at Mehl’s.

Anthony John Chinchiolo
Services are today for Anthony John Chinchiolo, who died Friday in Crows Landing of injuries suffered in an automobile accident. He was 56.
Mr. Chinchiolo was born and raised in Stockton. He lived in La Selva Beach for 20 years before moving to Modesto seven years ago.
A self-described "chess palooka," he ran the Young People’s Chess Club in Aptos. While he said 12 was the optimum number of students, up to 24 young players would show up at the library on the third Friday of each month.
"There’s absolutely no way in Caissa’s kingdom that I could ever refuse a student of the game," he told the Sentinel in 1987. Caissa is the goddess of chess.
He attended St. Mary’s High School in Stockton and graduated from the University of the Pacific. He was a senior pharmaceutical representative for Pharmacia Laboratories.
He is survived by his wife, Dori Chinchiolo of Modesto; sons John Chinchiolo of San Francisco, Chris Chinchiolo of San Jose, Aaron Cartwright of Modesto and James Cartwright of Santa Cruz; parents, Mary Chinchiolo and Leigh Cannon of Stockton; sister, Kim Romena of Stockton; brothers Richard Chinchiolo, Gary Wyatt and Kirk Cannon, all of Stockton; and two grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be noon today at Cathedral of the Annunciation, corner of Van Buren and Rose streets, Stockton. DeYoung Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Marianne B. Russell
Friends may call Saturday for Marianne Bittke Russell, who died Tuesday at her Santa Cruz home. She was 68.
Mrs. Russell was born in Chicago. She had lived in Santa Cruz since 1949.
Mrs. Russell had worked as a bookkeeper for Oak Tree Villa senior living homes in Scotts Valley. She had been a welfare case worker for Santa Cruz County in the 1970s and ’80s.
Mrs. Russell enjoyed traveling the Western states with her husband..
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Charles Russell of Santa Cruz; daughter Deborah Russell of San Francisco; and sisters Sonja Pimentel of Santa Rosa and Karen Greenberg of Santa Cruz.
Her son, Will Russell, died in 1994.

Lyson M. Hartmann
At her request, no services are planned for Lyson M. Hartmann, who died Thursday in Santa Cruz. She was 79.
Mrs. Hartmann was born in St. Louis, Mo. She moved to Santa Cruz 18 years ago after retiring as a real-estate agent in Coronado.
She is survived by daughter Lyson Hogg of Santa Cruz; granddaughters Angele McNally of Aptos and Natalia Alexander of San Jose; and great-granddaughter Larissa McNally of Aptos.

Phyllis G. Stevens
Services will be held Tuesday for Phyllis G. Stevens, who died Monday at Dominican Hospital. She was 89.
Mrs. Stevens was born in Fresno. She had lived in Santa Cruz for 55 years.
Mrs. Stevens owned and operated the Opal Cliffs Bakery on 41st Avenue in the ’50s. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, and her dog "Lady."
She is survived by daughters Phyllis Orton of Soquel and Dorothy Geritz of Fresno; son William A. Stevens Jr. of Santa Cruz; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Her husband, William Stevens, died in 1996, and daughter JoAnn Lyons died in 1998.
Services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oakwood Memorial Park, 3301 Paul Sweet Road, Santa Cruz, the Rev. David S. Vallelunga will officiate.

Howard ‘Cub’ Smith
Services are pending for Howard "Cub" Smith, who died Thursday in Santa Cruz. He was 75.
Mr. Smith was born in San Francisco. He had lived in the Boulder Creek area for more than 20 years.
Mr. Smith worked in the grocery business and retired as a produce manager in 1980. He served as Big Sir in 1989 in the Sons of Retirement, and enjoyed golfing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rosemary Smith of Boulder Creek; brother William Smith of South San Francisco; and grandson Jeremy Smith of Boulder Creek.
His son, Craig Smith, died in 1992.

Bettie L. Tibbitts
Services will be Monday for Bettie L Tibbitts, who died Wednesday at Watsonville Community Hospital. She was 91.
Mrs. Tibbitts was born in Joplin, Mo. She moved to Watsonville in 1935. She worked at Russo’s Frozen Food, and was a member of Arthur Road Baptist Church.
She is survived by son William Tibbitts of Morgan Hill; daughters Mildred Armstrong of Lincoln, Claudine Loes and Bettie Jene Baker of Watsonville, Merle Meeks of Phoenix, Ariz., and Maxine Bradley of Lampe, Mo.; sister Georgie Ayers of Watsonville; 14 grandchildren; 30 great- grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Owen Tibbitts, daughter Hettie Perry, a newborn son and two grandchildren died before her.
Services are at 1 p.m. Monday at Davis Memorial Chapel. Hugh Morgan will officiate. Burial will follow at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park.

Greg Trumbull
Services will be Monday for Greg Trumbull, who died Tuesday at Dominican Hospital. He was 51.
Mr. Trumbull was born in Michigan. He had lived in Santa Cruz for 25 years.
Family members say Mr. Trumbull enjoyed simple pleasures, such as spending time with his family, his daughter’s poetry and art and attending Santa Cruz High School football games.
He is survived by wife of 30 years, Debra Trumbull of Santa Cruz; son Jesse Trumbull of Santa Cruz; daughter Carrie Cheyenne Trumbull of Santa Cruz; parents Linda and Ted Dorics of Bradenton, Fla.; sister Mary Courtney of Bradenton; brothers Rodney Dorics, Roger Dorics, and Walt Trumbull, all of Bradenton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Mr. Trumbull’s home in Santa Cruz.

Lois Halk Hunt
Services will be held Tuesday for Lois Halk Hunt, who died Tuesday at a local convalescent hospital. She was 95.
Mrs. Hunt was born in Cherry Valley, Ark. She moved to San Francisco in 1943 and came to Boulder Creek in 1968.
Mrs. Hunt graduated from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. She taught in Arkansas and was a bookeeper at the Bank of America in San Francisco for 25 years.
Mrs. Hunt was a longtime member and former treasurer of the Boulder Creek Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Boulder Creek Garden Club. She enjoyed making crafts and crocheting.
She is survived by son Art Hunt of Cool; sister Georgia Beasley of Mountain Home, Ark.; brother Forest Halk of Morro Bay; two grandchildren; and a cousin.
Her husband A.R. Hunt, died in 1976.
Services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Oakwood Chapel, 3301 Paul Sweet Road, Santa Cruz.
