Ruby Rowden
Services are Tuesday for Ruby Rowden, who died Friday in Santa Cruz. She was 85.
Mrs. Rowden was born in St. John, Kan., the daughter of Charles and Mary Isetta (Taylor) Brown.
She worked for Boeing Aircraft Co. in Wichita, Kan., during World War II, and was known as "Ruby the Riveter."
She and her husband, Wesley, moved to Alamogordo, N.M., in the 1950s, and then to Santa Cruz in 1967.
Mrs. Rowden enjoyed cooking, and in the 1930s owned a restaurant.
She is survived by a niece, Marilyn Kay Green; several cousins; and close friends.
Her husband, Wesley Rowden, died in 1996.
Services begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Santa Cruz Memorial Park Mausoleum, 1927 Ocean St., Santa Cruz. Arrangements are by Benito & Azzaro’s Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz.

Jonathan Candelario
Services will be Thursday for Jonathan Candelario, who died in a car accident Friday near Denver. He was 7.
Jonathan was born in Phoenix, Ariz. He lived in Watsonville and Phoenix, where he was in the first grade at Manzanita School.
He is survived by his parents, José and Araceli Candelario of Phoenix; a brother, Ismael Candelario of Phoenix; a sister, Briana Candelario of Phoenix; grandparents Graciela Galvan of Denver and Mario Candelario and Maria and José Fernandez, all of Watsonville; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
His great-grandmother, Maria Guadalupe Contreras Coronel, died with him.
Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel, 222 E. Lake Ave., Watsonville, and a rosary service will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Church of the Assumption.
Burial will follow at Valley Cemetery.

Jesse Ray Jones Costa
Services will be Sunday for Jesse Ray Jones Costa, who died Saturday in Santa Cruz. He was 24.
Mr. Costa was born on an air base in the Philippines and raised in Santa Cruz. He lived in Marysville from ages 9-12.
He attended Gault Elementary School, Branciforte Junior High and Santa Cruz High School, and earned a massage therapy license from Twin Lakes College of the Healing Arts.
Mr. Costa worked for RoseHill, a residential home for traumatic brain injury survivors, and enjoyed helping patients with neurological disorders. He also volunteered at Elderday Adult Day Health Care.
His greatest passion was music and drumming, family members say, and his first band was a Christian band, "The Light," which played regularly at the New Life Center.
His other bands included "IMU" and "Wishcraft," and his latest group, "The Mix," was to play their first performance May 27 at RoseHill. The band will play at a private wake for him Saturday.
Mr. Costa volunteered for the Monterey and Bay Area jazz festivals, and was a student and teacher of karate, self-defense and meditation.
He loved the outdoors and enjoyed inline skating, mountain biking, disc golf, water-skiing, camping and fishing. He attended Unity Temple.
He is survived by his parents, Troy Jones Jr. of Portland and Bill and Tina Costa, both of Santa Cruz; brothers Jason Costa of San Antonio, Texas, and Sean Costa of Santa Cruz; a sister, Haylie Costa of Santa Cruz; grandparents Roma Costa of Santa Cruz and Joyce and Troy B. Jones Sr. of Marysville; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be 6 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, 411 Roxas St., Santa Cruz. Friends are asked to bring photographs of him to the service.

Kenneth James Van Stolk
Services will be June 1 for Kenneth James Van Stolk, who died May 2 at his family’s summer cottage in Bellaire, Mich., after suffering a heart attack. He was 47.
Mr. Van Stolk was born in San Francisco and had lived in the Santa Cruz area since 1967. He graduated from Aptos High School in 1972 and earned an associate’s degree from Cabrillo College.
Mr. Van Stolk owned a television repair business in Watsonville for many years, but his main vocation was writing novels about the Vikings.
He is survived by his parents, Jay and Jane Van Stolk of Watsonville; a brother, Richard Van Stolk of Watsonville; sisters Carol Donahue of Half Moon Bay and Barbara Miercke of Daly City; and six nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. June 1 in the garden of his parent’s home at 933 Larkin Valley Road.

Daniel Trybom
Services will be private for Daniel Trybom, who died last Tuesday in Santa Cruz. He was 48.
Mr. Trybom was born in Colby, Kan., and lived in Santa Cruz for 44 years.
A Vietnam veteran, he served in the Navy and earned the National Defense Service Medal. He was a caregiver, currently for Lena Re, and had cared for his mother until her death.
Mr. Trybom enjoyed gardening, cooking, watching sports and reading science fiction and sports stories.
He is survived by brothers David, Steve and Victor Trybom, all of Santa Cruz, Sam Trybom of Anderson and Stan Trybom of Santa Clara; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Contributions are preferred to the American Heart Association or to the Santa Cruz Public Library.
Arrangements are by Oakwood Memorial Chapel.

Linda Darlene Polley
Services will be Saturday for Linda Darlene Polley, who died May 3. She was 48.
Mrs. Polley was born in Kingman, Ariz., and moved to California in the early 1970s.
She attended Cabrillo College, studying writing and poetry. She was a naturally gifted poet, family members say, and worked many years at Community Connection and also did home mailings. She was a driver for Community Support Services for many years.
Mrs. Polley loved to read and was knowledgeable on a wide range of subjects, family members say. She was also a baseball fan, particularly of the Arizona Diamondbacks. She enjoyed her cats, Nicole and BeBe, and her fish, Windie.
She is survived by daughters Tammy and April; two grandchildren; a brother; a nephew; and an aunt.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at 740 N. Plymouth St., Santa Cruz.

Nicholas Charles Bakanoff
Services will be Sunday for Nicholas Charles Bakanoff, who died April 6 in his Scotts Valley home. He was 50.
Mr. Bakanoff was born in San Jose and raised in San Jose, Twain Harte, Bishop and Santa Cruz. He lived in the Santa Cruz area as a teen-ager and returned in his mid-30s.
Mr. Bakanoff graduated from Big Pine High School in 1969 and from Bethany College in 1993.
He worked as a golf course maintenance supervisor and landscaper and most recently as an addiction counselor.
He loved to play golf and collect antique novelties, especially pocket watches. Mr. Bakanoff attended church at New Life Center.
He is survived by his wife, Melodee Anne Dinnell of Santa Cruz; daughters Tara Ferguson of San Jose and Nicole of Illinois; a son, Nicholas Bakanoff of San Jose; a stepdaughter, Cassandra Grannucci of Stockton; a sister, Diane Benson of Brookings, Ore.; brothers Bill Bakanoff of Idaho and Rick Bakanoff of Scotts Valley; two grandchildren; and two nieces.
His brother, Michael Bakanoff, died in 2001.
A private celebration and tree planting will be Sunday in Scotts Valley.

Cremation arrangements are by Santa Cruz Memorial Park.
