Hector C. Cervantes
Services are Monday for Hector Cervera Cervantes, who died Friday in Watsonville after a brief illness. He was 28.
Mr. Cervantes was born in Mexico, and had lived in Watsonville the past 10 years. He worked four years for Quail Mountain Herbs.
He is survived by his wife, Griselda Cortes of Watsonville; daughter Aide Cervera of Watsonville; brother Alejandro Cervera of Oakland; sisters Juana Cervera of Oakland, Martina Cervera of Los Angeles and Adriana Cervera of Mexico; and parents Victor and Irene Cervantes of Mexico.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. Monday at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel, 222 E. Lake Ave., Watsonville. The rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Monday at Mehl’s. More services and Burial will take place in Cueramaro, in Guanajuato, Mexico.

Barbara V. Robinson
At her request, no services are planned for Barbara V. Robinson, who died Monday in Scotts Valley of heart failure. She was 59.
Mrs. Robinson had been a Santa Cruz resident for 16 years, and a nurse at Dominican Hospital for 15 years.
She was a member of the California Nurses Association. Her interests included animals and film.
Contributions are preferred to the Humane Society.

Howard J. Vasquez
Services will be Wednesday for Howard J. Vasquez, who died Monday in Watsonville. He was 44.
Mr. Vasquez was a lifelong Watsonville resident. He enjoyed family gatherings and loved outdoor work.
He is survived by parents Marcelino and Dorothy Vasquez of Watsonville; sisters Cynthia Winters of Salinas and Victoria Vasquez of Gilroy; and brothers Victor, Pat and Anthony Vasquez, all of Watsonville;
Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Tuesday at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel, 222 E. Lake Ave., Watsonville. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady Help of Christians Valley Church, 2401 E. Lake Ave., Watsonville. Burial will follow at the church Cemetery next door.
Arrangements are by Mehl’s Colonial Chapel.

Laural Jones
Services are May 26 for Laural Jones, a former Santa Cruz resident who died May 12 from complications of a leg injury. She was 32.
Born in Miami, Mrs. Jones grew up in Santa Cruz. She attended Westlake Elementary School, Mission Hill Junior High and Santa Cruz High School. She moved to Ventura in 1988.
She worked as an accountant for Kinko’s Copies. Before that, she worked at Wellpoint. She enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, and made time to help those in need, her family said.
She is survived by her husband, Scott Aste of Ventura; father Larry Jones of Bonny Doon; mother Karyn Bates of Ventura; stepmother Elizabeth Jones of Bonny Doon; sister Avonel of Bonny Doon; brother Van of Santa Cruz; grandparents John and Kay Rabey of Phoenix and Homer Jones of Orlando.
Services are 2 p.m. May 26 at the home of Larry and Elizabeth Jones in Bonny Doon. For directions, call 425-1882.

Lucille Kane
Services will be Wednesday for Lucille Kane, who died Sunday at her home in Felton. She was 88.
Mrs. Kane was born in San Francisco and raised in the city’s Mission District.
Mrs. Kane worked as a supervisor for San Francisco Social Services for 30 years and retired to Santa Cruz County, where she became an ombudsman for social services.
She graduated from St. Paul’s High School and UC Berkeley, where she majored in sociology.
In Felton, she was active at St. John’s Church. Her hobbies included reading, needlepoint and crossword puzzles, and family members say she was well-versed in political issues.
She is survived by a son, Richard Joseph Kane of Sacramento; a daughter, Susan Kane-Webb of Felton; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two nieces.
Her husband, Joseph Patrick Kane, died in 1969, and her daughter, Janet Kane-Duran, died in 1994.
Friends may call from 1-7:30 p.m. today at St. John’s Church on Highway 9 in Felton, and a vigil service will be 7:30 p.m. today at the church.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John’s.
Burial will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Colma.
Contributions are preferred to St. John’s Church or Hospice Caring Project of Santa Cruz County, P.O. Box 670, Aptos, CA 95003.

Marie O. Wall
Services will be Wednesday for Marie O. Wall, who died from cancer Sunday in Watsonville. She was 79.
Born in Oklahoma, Mrs. Wall was the eldest of nine children.
She came to Arizona, and then to the Central Coast, during the Great Depression and did field work and bookkeeping before buying and operating a beauty shop and an optical laboratory. She later worked as a caregiver.
Mrs. Wall was known as "granny" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was a strong presence who family members say they will greatly miss. They say she could out-talk, out-work, out-argue, out-play and out-nickel-gamble just about anyone.
Mrs. Wall is survived by a daughter, Jeannie Whitman of Ventura; a sister, Ernestine Hargis of Watsonville; a brother, Bill Thompson of Salinas; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Owen Wall, and a great-granddaughter, Krysta Michelle Whitman, died before her.
Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today at Davis Memorial Chapel, 609 Main St., Watsonville.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.

James Rojas
Services will be Thursday for James Rojas, who died Tuesday at his Watsonville home. He was 94.
Mr. Rojas was born in The Philippines and lived in Watsonville since 1926.
He was a lettuce worker for 55 years and belonged to the Watsonville Filipino Community and St. Patrick’s Church.
Mr. Rojas was a former member of the Grand Oriente Lodge, a Filipino Masonic organization, and enjoyed gardening, fishing and playing cards.
He is survived by sons Phil M. Rojas of Watsonville and Jim S. Rojas of Gilroy; a daughter, Carole Parker of Rocklin; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A rosary service will be at 7 p.m. today at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel, 222 E. Lake Ave., Watsonville.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today and from 9-10 a.m. Thursday at Mehl’s.
Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Watsonville Catholic Cemetery.
Contributions are preferred to Hospice Caring Project of Santa Cruz County, PO Box 670, Aptos, CA 95001.

Joseph W. Meehan
Services will be Friday for Joseph W. Meehan, who died Saturday in Santa Cruz. He was 42.
Mr. Meehan was born in Santa Cruz and graduated from Harbor High School.
He was intrigued by cars at a young age, friends say, and they became his passion.
Mr. Meehan worked at various auto parts stores and owned A&A Auto Parts during the 1990s. He was employed by Kragen Auto Parts in Capitola.
He enjoyed photography, camping and spending time in the mountains. His greatest joy was spending time with his daughters.
He is survived by daughters Sara, Alyssa and Kimberly Meehan, all of California; sisters Laurine Sgambati and Mary Bennett, both of Santa Cruz; brother Ray R. Meehan of Yachats, Ore.; his best friend, Susan J. Gurr of Soquel; three nieces; and one nephew.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Benito and Azzaro’s Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz, or from 8:30-10 a.m. Friday at Holy Cross Church, 126 High St., Santa Cruz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Cross Church.
Mr. Meehan will be buried at Holy Cross Cemetery.
