Services will be Monday for Joseph Jacobs, who died Nov. 21 in Santa Cruz. He was 55.
Mr. Jacobs was born in San Pedro and lived in Santa Cruz for 40 years.
He owned and operated a drywall construction business for more than 30 years.
Mr. Jacobs enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid reader who spent many hours in the library. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by mother Genevieve Baumel of Sunnyvale; father Joseph M. Jacobs of Laguna Beach; sons Brett McNerny of Santa Cruz, Johnny McNerny of Sacramento and Joseph and Jared Jacobs, both of Santa Cruz; daughter Michelle Van Otterloo of Oceanside; brother Brian Jacobs of Laguna Beach; sister Shell Jacobs of Carmel; and two granddaughters.
Services will be noon Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Mission and High Streets, Santa Cruz.
Arrangements are by Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel.

Harry Calvin Coolidge
Services will be Monday for Harry Calvin Coolidge, who died Sept. 27. He was 62.
Mr. Coolidge was born in San Francisco, the only child of the late Eva Brande Coolidge Glenn Edward Coolidge, a former state assemblyman.
He lived in Santa Cruz County for 35 years.
Mr. Coolidge graduated from Willamette College in 1962 and Willamette Law School in 1965. He practiced law in Santa Cruz County for 35 years, specializing in real estate law.
He volunteered with several local charities, including the Little Helper’s Golf Tournament, the Red Cross, the Miss California Pageant and the Big "Z" Foundation.
Mr. Coolidge served on the Santa Cruz City Planning Commission in the early 1970s and was co-chair of a county Committee to Re-elect President Nixon.
Family and friends say he was charming, sweet, intelligent and witty, and say he had a passion for golf, his family and helping and encouraging others.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Coolidge of Corralitos; sons Geoff and Braden Coolidge, both of Santa Cruz and Kyle Coolidge of Corralitos; and several cousins; nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Twin Lakes Church, followed by a celebration of his life at DeLaveagea Golf Lodge, Upper Park Road, Santa Cruz.

Marc Kimmel
Private services were held for Marc Kimmel, who died Sunday at his home in Santa Cruz. He was 57.
Mr. Kimmel was born in Boston and lived in Santa Cruz for about 35 years.
He worked as an electrician.
Mr. Kimmel was a member of the California Grey Bears. He enjoyed reading and rebuilding cars, and in his earlier days, racing motorcycles.
He is survived by a brother, Frank Kimmel of Moyers, Okla.; a sister, Kris Fishburn of Santa Cruz; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Philip J. Crouch
Services will be Tuesday for Philip J. Crouch, who died Friday at his Watsonville home. He was 68.
Mr. Crouch was born in Watsonville and graduated from Salinas High School.
He worked for J.J. Crosetti Co. and Farmer Brothers Coffee before becoming owner and operator of Lincoln Street Radiator of Watsonville. He retired in 1996, and his son, P. J., now runs the company.
In his retirement, Mr. Castro enjoyed traveling with his wife, Norma, spending time with his family, gardening and restoring old cars. He attended Twin Lakes Church.
He is survived his wife, Norman Crouch of Watsonville; a son, P. J. Crouch of Watsonville; a daughter, Marnie Crouch of Watsonville; and two grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Mansche Hall at Twin Lakes Church.

Julian Castro
Services will be Monday for Julian Castro, who died Wednesday at San Jose Medical Center after he was hit by a car while crossing East Lake Avenue in Watsonville that morning. He was 91.
Mr. Castro was born in Xochimilco, Mexico, and lived in Watsonville for 50 years, working as a farm laborer for 40 years.
In his spare time, Mr. Castro liked to walk, bicycle and work in the garden.
He is survived by a son, Margarito Castro of Watsonville; daughters Francisca Serrano of Mexico and Angelina Castro, Margarita Huerta, Victoria Atilano and Amelia Velasco, all of Watsonville; 28 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
His wife, Herlinda Altamirano, died in 1977, and his son, Lino Castro, died in 1997.
Friends may call from 1-5 p.m. Saturday and from 5-9 p.m. Sunday at Davis Memorial Chapel, 609 Main St., Watsonville.
A vigil rosary service will be 7 p.m. Sunday at Davis Memorial.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 9 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Church.
Mr. Castro will be buried in Xochimilco.

Gertrude Cuthbertson
Private family services were held for Gertrude Irene Cuthbertson, who died Nov. 20. She was 85.
Mrs. Cuthbertson was born in Irondequoit, a suburb of Rochester, N.Y. She moved to Soquel in 1979.
Mrs. Cuthbertson graduated from Bergen High School in Genesee County, N.Y., in 1935.
She marriage her childhood sweetheart, James R. Cuthbertson, on Thanksgiving Day in 1937, and the couple moved to Sunnyvale in 1942 and then to Soquel.
Known as "Trudy" to her friends in California, she loved to read, sew and work in her vegetable garden. She also enjoyed walking at Capitola Mall or from near Cabrillo College to downtown Soquel.
She is survived by daughter Irene Simpkins of Scotts Valley; sons Tom Cuthbertson of Cupertino and Jim Cuthbertson of Trinidad; former daughter-in-law Marti Cuthbertson; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 1 great, great-granddaughter.
Her husband of 53 years, James R. Cuthbertson, died in 1990.
Mrs. Cuthbertson will be buried at Oakwood Memorial Park.

Mary Burger
Mary Burger died recently. She was 96.
Mrs. Burger was born on Christmas Day in 1905, on a small farm above Soquel. She lived in San Mateo and other cities before settling in San Jose.
Mrs. Burger graduated from Soquel Grammar School and Santa Cruz High School.
She worked as a waitress at the old Capitola Hotel and later as a clerk at the Santa Cruz county clerk’s office and as a secretary in the Rittenhouse law firm.
She marriage Donald Hoover in Santa Cruz, and the couple had a son before her husband was killed while on patrol for the newly formed California Highway Patrol.
After several years, she marriage Al Burger, and in San Mateo she worked at the San Mateo Medical Clinic.
Mrs. Burger enjoyed volunteer work translating books into Braille and traveling with her husband. She loved gardening and shopping.
She is survived by son Richard Hoover of Aptos; niece Jayne Hocom of Aptos; dear friend Florence Meadows of Santa Cruz; one granddaughter; two great-grandsons; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
