Ola Dean Hoover
Ola Dean Hoover died following complications from a fall in her home Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at age 80.
Born July 21, 1923, in Hominy, Okla., Mrs. Hoover had been a Yolo County resident for 60 years. She was a homemaker and seamstress in addition to working at Contadina Cannery for 25 years. She was a member of Rebeckah Lodge and Good Sam Campers Club in the 1970s.
Survivors include her daughters, Charlotte Lloyd of Woodland; Dana Gordley and husband David of Rancho Cordova; grandchildren, Tamyra and Matt Hall, and Mark and Denise Prtichett, also all of Woodland, Jennifer and Doug Lusk and Cory Vick and Rachel Lebrock of Sacramento, Leighandra Gordley of Rancho Cordova, Tomika Gordley of Stockton and Matthew Spencer of Modesto; great-grandchildren, Dustin and Amy Cline, Seth and Chad Pritchett, all of Woodland, Amanda and Chase Harrison and Justin Lusk of Sacramento, and Zachary Thompson of Stockton; sisters, Norma Johnson and Sybil Murphy of Loomis, and Donna Bratton of Redding; and brothers, Joe Denman of Redding and Jim Denman of Graham, Wash. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Hoover; and brother, Garth Denman.
The family requests memorials be directed to Kaiser Permanente Hospice Program. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of the Valley of Citrus Heights.
Services: A memorial service is scheduled in early January of 2004. Burial will be at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland.
HOOVER
Thelma M. Hoover
Thelma M. Hoover died in Williams Friday, Nov. 5 at age 94.
Mrs. Hoover was born Aug. 3, 1910 in Woodland and was a lifelong Yolo County resident. She graduated from Pierce High School in Arbuckle and was a member of the Rebekah Lodge.
Survivors include Mrs. Hoover's daughter, Raenne Kalfsbeek of Arbuckle; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond M. Hoover and her brother, John McGrew.

HOOVER
Virginia Gay (McCall) Hoover
Virginia Gay (McCall) Hoover died March 8, 2003, at St. John's Village in Woodland after a brief bout with cancer.
Born in Bruin, Pa., on April 5, 1909, to Bert and Blanche (Teitsworth) McCall, she was 93 years old.
She had been a 52-year resident of Yolo County and spent 14 years working at UC Davis in the environmental health and safety department.
She was a woman who loved to be around activity and excitement, and the university was her "home away from home." She enjoyed being part of the dynamic growth of UCD over the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Guy L. Hoover, in 1991. Her only son, John Hoover of Woodland, survives her.
A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church of Woodland, corner of North and Second Streets, with Pastor Doug Johnson officiating. Friends and family are invited to attend and celebrate the joy of her life.
Private interment attended by family only will be at Monument Hill Memorial Park and will be scheduled at a later date.
Donations in her memory may be made to the United Methodist Church, St. John's Village or Yolo Hospice.

HOPKINS
Linda Zentmire Hopkins
Linda Zentmire Hopkins of Milan, Mo. died at her home Tuesday May 31 at age 39.
Mrs. Hopkins was born June 27, 1965 in Audubon, Iowa to Judson F. and Shirley Zentmire. She had been a Woodland resident for 24 years. She graduated from Woodland High School in 1983 and attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Mo. Mrs. Hopkins worked for Woodland Healthcare for a number of years. After moving to Milan, Mo. she became a homemaker.
Survivors include Mrs. Hopkins' husband of 20 years, James E. Hopkins; her daughter, Jennifer; her sons, Nick and Jon all of Milan, Mo.; her mother, Shirley Zentmire of Woodland; her sisters, Diane Mathew of Olathe, Kan. and Janet Lange of Kansas City, Mo. and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Judson R. Zentmire and her brother, Judd Zentmire.
The family requests memorials in Mrs. Hopkins' name be directed to a memorial fund for her children. Checks may be made out to the Hopkins Family and mailed to her mother, Shirley Zentmire, 449 Yuba Place, Woodland, 95695.
Services: Memorial services were conducted on June 3 at a countryside cabin near Milan, Mo. The Ruchmeier Funeral Home of Milan, Mo. assisted the family with arrangements.
HOPPES
Martha L. (Salisbury) Hoppes
Martha L. (Salisbury) Hoppes died on Dec. 25, 2002, at the age of 97. She and her twin sister Mary were born Aug. 3, 1905, in Blue Springs, Neb.
The Salisbury family had two sets of twins. Considered a tomboy, she and her three sisters and six brothers were raised on a dairy farm in Blue Springs, Neb., and on a cattle ranch in the Sandhills near Long Pine, Neb.
In 1925, she marriage Ray William Hoppes. While Ray and Martha were courting, they spent time with Charles "Slim" Lindbergh and his girlfriend during Lindbergh's barnstorming days. Since Ray had a car, they would escort Lindbergh and his girlfriend to the airport where he would introduce others to the thrills of flying.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1968. She also outlived all of her brothers and sisters.
She was a caring and loving mother to her sons and grandchildren. She was also very active in the Roca Methodist Church of Roca, Neb. She had many interests and enjoyed life's adventures. She enjoyed fishing and normally caught more than her share of fish. She was a competitive Pinochle player all her life. She also enjoyed reading and working jigsaw puzzles, particularly those by Thomas Kincade. Those who knew her will remember pleasing, caring nature, her sense of humor and quick wit.
She was cared for at home by Yolo Hospice nurses and personnel for the last eight months of her life.
She is survived by her sons Ronald Hoppes and his wife Marilyn of Davis, Donald Hoppes and his wife Jeanette of Roca, Neb; four grandchildren: Tom Hoppes, Christine Wiltshire and Mary Ellen Cecava all of Lincoln, Neb., and Shawn Hoppes of Conroe, Texas. Seven great-grandchildren also survive her.
Graveside services will be in Lincoln, Neb., for her immediate family. The family requests that any memorial contributions be sent to Yolo Hospice.
HORNBACK
Gerald Wayne Hornback
Gerald Wayne Hornback died in Woodland Memorial Hospital Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, at age 72.
Born July 4, 1931, in Parson, Kan., Mr. Hornback had been a Yolo County resident for 31 years. He attended Alton, Ill. schools. He worked in oil fields for 45 years. He moved to California in 1959.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Hornback of Esparto; children, Sherry Haleen of Dunnigan; sons, Todd Donaldson of Winters and Roger and Gerald Hornback of Southern California; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Melvin and Jake Edwards, both of Godfrey, Ill.; sisters, Barbara Perry of E. Alton, Ill., and Beverly Dulen of Godfrey, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Kim Nevarez.
The family requests memorials be directed to the charity of donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of McNary's Chapel of Woodland.

HORNBERGER
Jeannette L. Hornberger
Jeannette L. Hornberger, 88, died of complications from Alzheimer’s disease on April 11, 2006, at Woodland Memorial Hospital. She died as she lived her life, with great dignity and surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born on Sept. 17, 1917, in Jeannette, Pa., the daughter of James Loughner II and Nora Bowman Loughner. She had one brother, James Loughner III. During World War ll, in 1943, she marriage Grant T. Hornberger and, in July, they celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.
Their first home was in Harrisburg, Pa., where daughters Deborah, now of San Francisco, and Diane, now of Woodland, were born. They lived in Alliance, Ohio, from 1953 to 1968. In addition to being an active volunteer in the community and in her daughters’ activities, she owned the House of Fashion dress shop. When the couple moved to Celina, Ohio, she became a licensed real estate agent.
During the next few years, Grant’s work took them to Allentown, Pa.; Goshen, Ind.; Dublin, Ga.; and North Canton, Ohio, before the family moved to Woodland in 1980. While living in Woodland, she continued to volunteer, here as a member of the Woodland Hospital Auxiliary, where she was a Pink Lady, worked in the gift shop and on the holiday bazaar, helped install lifelines and was chairwoman of its annual home tour.
The family wishes to thank Maria Garcia, her caregiver, whose dedication and love allowed her to remain in her home with her husband. Maria’s family and Gloria Mendez made Jeannette’s last years comfortable and happy for her.
She was preceded in death by her brother, and two nephews, Joseph and Jeffrey Loughner.
In addition to her husband and daughters, she is survived by grandchildren Spencer Brimage of Washington, D.C., and Jenna Brimage of Woodland as well as her “adopted” family, Jill and Jim Mahaffey and their children, Alyssa and Bryce of Pennsylvania. Jill is the daughter of Alice and Bruce Hubbell, who were longtime Davis residents.
She is also survived by nieces JoAnn Anderson and Elaine Zangari, and nephews Larry Powers and Frank Wolfgang, all of Pennsylvania, and their families.
A memorial service will begin at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Woodland. McNary’s Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
