FISHER

Phyllis Fisher

Phyllis Fisher died at her home in Woodland Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005 at age 58.

Mrs. Fisher was born Aug. 1, 1946 to George and Jean Klinkhammer Gormley in Oakland. She had been a resident of Yolo County for 56 years. After graduating from Woodland High School, she began working for the County of Yolo in the payroll department. She retired after 40 years as a payroll supervisor. Mrs. Fisher and her husband Don were founding members of the Woodland Goldwing Touring Association in 1987 and were still active members when she passed.

Mrs. Fisher is survived by her husband, Don Fisher, also of Woodland; her daughter, Tracy Poole of Sacramento; her mother Jean Gormley of Woodland; her sister, Carol Gormley of Sparks, Nev. and her brother, Gary Gormley, of Portland, Ore.

The family requests memorials in Mrs. Fisher's name be directed to the Kaiser Hospice at 3174 Arden Way, Sacramento, 95825.

Service: A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at McNary's Chapel, 458 College St., Woodland. McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

FISK

Gregory James Fisk

Gregory James Fisk died on Jan. 15, 2005, at his home in Fremont after a courageous battle with Burkitt's lymphoma. He was surrounded by loving family members.

Born in Los Angeles on June 11, 1967, he moved to Davis as a toddler, and spent most of his youth in Davis. He met his wife, Darsie Livengood Fisk, as a junior at Davis High School.

He graduated with honors from UC Berkeley with a bachelor's degree in genetics and went on to complete a Ph.D. in genetics at the University of Utah. He worked in biotech research in Boston for several years before returning to California to be closer to family.

For the past three years, he had led the diabetes research team at Geron Corp. in Menlo Park. At Geron, Fisk and his co-workers strove to change embryonic stem cells into insulin-producing pancreatic cells to help cure diabetes.

His boss, Jane Lebkowski, said, "Greg was an outstanding scientist. He was immensely creative yet solid in his demand for quality and accuracy. He won the respect and friendship of all."

While his work was incredibly important to him, Fisk never compromised his time for family. He was a devoted husband and father. His greatest joys were his daughter, Abbey, and his son, Ryan. He and his family enjoyed camping, hiking, riding bikes and playing at the seashore. He also loved fishing, golf, softball and snowboarding and was an avid home brewer who applied his scientific precision to the production of excellent beers.

He is survived by his wife Darsie Livengood Fisk, his daughter Abbey and son Ryan, all of Fremont; his mother Dottie Bonneau and stepfather Charles Bonneau of Davis; his father Gary Fisk and stepmother Judy Fisk, of Crete, Ill.; his brothers, Chad Fisk of Pasadena, Jason Fisk of San Diego, David Fisk of Woodland, Matthew Bonneau of Mill Valley, Justin Bonneau of Chico and Chuck Bonneau of Santa Barbara; and his grandmother, Dorothea Hubble of Woodland.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday at the UC Berkeley Faculty Club on the UC Berkeley campus.

FISK

Tom Walter Fisk

Tom Walter Fisk died in Woodland Tuesday, May 7, 2002 at age 80 following complications from a stroke. He was born June 26, 1921 in Rapid City, S.D., to the late Albert R. and Elna Fisk.

Mr. Fisk had been a resident of Woodland for 40 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He worked for Romey's Liquor Store, L&K Liquor store, the Woodland Elks Lodge and Yolo Fliers Club.

Mr. Fisk is survived by sons Martin Fisk of Elk Grove, and Grant Fisk, Kenneth Fisk and Brian Fisk, all of Woodland; and daughters, Karen Sorenson of Woodland and Elna Fisk of West Sacramento.

He is also survived by his sister Jean Noonan of Walnut Grove, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and two great great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by wife Grace Fisk in Aug. 1993.

Respecting his wishes no services will be held.

McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

FISK Jr.

Charles A. 'Bud' Fisk Jr.

Charles A. "Bud" Fisk Jr., better known as "Bud, " passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2002, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 78.

Born in Sacramento, October 2, 1923, he was a Yolo County resident of 73 years. He was the son of the late Bert and Virginia (Jacinto Silvey) Fisk. The family resided in Sacramento before moving to Woodland in 1928.

He was a 1941 graduate of Woodland High School and attended Sacramento City College, before joining the U.S. Naval Air Corp and received his commission November 8, 1944. On that same day, in Corpus Christi, Texas, he marriage Peggie McCarthy of Sacramento. Bud served as a naval officer and aviator in World War II, flying the F6F Hellcat. He was also a flight instructor in Melbourne, Fla. While at Sacramento City College he was a member of Phi Chi Fraternity.

After his military service he joined his father, farming in Yolo County. He also was sales manager for Solano Tractor in Dixon for several years before starting his new career in real estate in 1974. Bud was well known for his expertise in selling agricultural and commercial property and was affiliated with MacLaughlin and Co. in West Sacramento for the last 10 years where he continued to be active until his death.

Mr. Fisk is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Peggie (McCarthy) Fisk; son, Tom Fisk and wife Susan of Valencia; daughters, Sally MacDonald and husband Bob of Redwood City, Nancy Shaeffer and husband Hazen of Truckee, and Cindi Fisk of Manhattan Beach.

Mr. Fisk was preceded in death by his sisters, Theo Hatcher and Bernice Parkhurst; and brother, Ray Silvey.

Also surviving are his grandchildren, Sloane and Peggy Fisk of San Diego, Tim Fisk of Valencia, Kelly O'Bannon of New York, N.Y., Sean O'Bannon of Redwood City, Jarret Shaeffer of Chico, and Jennifer Shaeffer of San Diego.

A memorial service is scheduled at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at McNary's Chapel, 458 College St., Woodland.

Donations may be made, in his name, to: Sacramento Children's Home, 2750 Sutterville Road, Sacramento, 95820.

McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

FITZER

Ron Fitzer

Ron Fitzer died at his home in Sulphur Springs, Texas on Thursday, Sept. 30 at age 66.

Mr. Fitzer was born May 13, 1938 in Eaton, Ohio to Emmit and Mary Hobbs Fitzer. He was a retired accountant for the Pacific Lumber Company and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Survivors include Mr. Fitzer's sons, Craig and Christian Fitzer, both of Woodland, Clay Fitzer of Mariposa, Cory Fitzer of Salinas; his grandchildren Cort, Connor, Cydney, Cameron, Caitlyn, Caleb, Charles and Cory Fitzer; his sister Barbara Moss of Sulfur Springs, Texas and his brother Paul Hobbs of Eaton, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Wormington.

Services: Graveside services were held Monday, Oct. 4 at North Hopkins Cemetery, Sulfur Springs, Texas. Pastor Craig Fitzer officiated. Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home of Sulphur Springs, Texas assisted the family with arrangements.

FITZGERALD

Donald Thomas Fitzgerald

Donald Thomas Fitzgerald died of cancer at his home in Davis on Feb. 21, 2001. Born July 9, 1927, in New York, he was 73.

He was raised in New York and Maryland and joined the Naval Aviators' Training Program as a cadet upon graduation from high school in July 1945. He received his aviator's wings and was commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1948 and served for 30 years in the U.S. Navy.

He flew in various squadrons, land and carrier-based, in Hawaii, Guam and Whidbey Island, Wash. He served on the staff supervising seaplane operations at Iwakuni, Japan. At Quonset Point, R.I., he was training officer for the wing commander; at Brunswick, Maine, legal officer for the naval air station and at Stuttgart, Germany, and one of the briefing officers for the commander of U.S. forces in Europe. He also flew courier for NATO in Europe.

As a member of the Navy's first multi-engine squadron to enter the Korean War, he flew combat missions, earning several air medals and a Distinguished Flying Cross. He retired in 1975 as a full wing commander.

While serving in his final duty station at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, he taught political science at Monterey Peninsula College. After retirement, he turned to academia for a second career, earning a master's degree in history at the University of Rhode Island and in 1986 a Ph.D. in history at UC Santa Barbara.

During the late 1980s he continued his new career, teaching American history at Southern Oregon State College in Ashland.

In 1990 he was a historian for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pacific Ocean Division, Honolulu. He moved to Washington, D.C., to do research at the Library of Congress and became an independent scholar, researching and writing public history projects. He retired from this career in 1996.

For the next 21 years, he worked as a volunteer counselor in the domestic abuse program of Fairfax County, Va.. He and his wife later moved to Davis, where they have lived for his last 18 months.

He loved sailing and was a dedicated runner. He last competed in the Davis Labor Day Race, 2000. He also enjoyed reading and all kinds of music. He played the Irish drum and studied the Irish flute and sang in many community and church chorales. He was an accomplished dancer.

He is survived by his wife, Marya; his daughter, Candyss Fitzgerald of Santa Cruz; his son, Scott Fitzgerald of St. Ignatius, Mont.; his granddaughter, Lindsay Fitzgerald of Citrus Heights; three stepchildren, Noah and Carl Andreen of Alexandria, Va., and Wendy Andreen of Herndon, Va.; a grandson, Cory Andreen of Virginia; and his aunt, Agnes Barbuscia of Bellair Bluffs, Fla.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Unitarian Church of Davis, 27074 Patwin Road. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent in his name to Kaiser Hospice in Sacramento.

FITZGERALD

Virginia M. Fitzgerald

Virginia M. Fitzgerald, of Davis, died peacefully on Nov. 1, 2004. She was 70.

Born in Minnesota on Feb. 7, 1934, she was a Davis resident for many years.

She is survived by her daughter, Sylva M. Fitzgerald of Sacramento, and five sisters: Angeline Rowekamp, Margaret Flanigan, Joanne Kleinman, Mary Ryan and Linda Scharber, all of Minnesota.

Additional survivors include numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends, who valued her for her elegance and style, compassion, caring and sense of humor.

At her request, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests remembrances to the Sacramento Easter Seals Guild, 3205 Hurley Way, Sacramento, CA 95846, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
