IROD

Dumitru Irod

Dumitru Irod of Davis died July 9, 2001, at Sutter Memorial Hospital in Sacramento. Born Feb. 12, 1919, in Romania, he was 82.

Irod worked in Romania for the Institute of Geophysics as a technician. After his retirement, he came to the United States in 1990 where he settled in Grand Rapids, Mich. He came to Davis in 1994 to be near family members. He had lived in Davis ever since.

He enjoyed drafting and loved to invent mechanical items. He was a great handyman who enjoyed fixing things. He was described by his family as "a good grandfather who was very devoted to his family."

Irod is survived by his wife, Zahara Irod of Davis, and his children, Gerald Whitehawk of Phoenix, and Catalin Irod and his wife, Ileana, of Davis. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Vasile "Sile" Irod and Duica Irod.

A funeral was held today at noon at the Davis Funeral Chapel. Burial was scheduled to follow.

IRWIN

Lon 'Lonnie' Calvin Irwin

Lon "Lonnie" Calvin Irwin died in Woodland Saturday, May 21, 2005 at age 81.

Mr. Irwin was born Sept. 7, 1923 in New Mexico. He had been a Yolo County resident for 16 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific Theater. Prior to his retirement in 1986, he worked as a rancher and cowboy for Stan and Bill Ceresola of Wadsworth, Nev. He was a member of the American Legion and the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include Mr. Irwin's wife of 18 years, Grace Irwin, also of Woodland; his stepdaughters, Sylvia Stripling and her husband Marty of Knights Landing and Viola DeVita and her husband Dave of Woodland; his stepsons, Cliff White and his wife Joanne of Woodland; John Tracey of Nevada; Dennis White and his wife Rebecca of Knights Landing and Rick Petrarca of Fallon, Nev. and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorials in Mr. Irwin's name be directed to the charity of the donor's choice. Services: A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday, May 30 at the Woodland United Fellowship Church, 240 North West St., Woodland. North Sacramento Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

ISBELL

Robert L. "Bobby" Isbell

Robert L. "Bobby" Isbell died March 8, 2003, after a short but bitter battle with cancer.

A native Californian, he was born in Stockton to Clifford L. Isbell and Roberta Ramiociotti on Nov. 13, 1941. He was 61 years old.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1965, then moved to Davis in 1966 and went to work at Ernie Hartz Ford, which later became Hatton Marks Ford.

In 1982, he and his partner, Doug Hatton, opened Center City Automotive at the same old Ford dealership at Fifth and G streets. In 1997, they moved their business to its current location on Madson place.

Over the years, Center City Automotive has donated to and sponsored many baseball teams in Davis.

Isbell was governor of the Davis Moose Lodge and received his fellowship degree from the Loyal Order of Moose.

For the last few years, he took great pleasure in fishing on his boat, "Rocky, " and spending every weekend at the family's home away from home in Bodega Bay.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Tryna, and his grandson, C. Taylor Isbell. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his son, Clifford G. Isbell and his wife Cindy; his daughters, Kathy Lavorico and her husband Alex and Laura Winton and her husband Rick; granddaughters, April Isbell and Brooke and Megan Winton; grandsons, Wade Winton, Anthony Isbell, Alex Lavorico IV and Luke Robert Lavorico; his sister, Charlotte Brooks; and his brothers, Clifford and David Isbell, and Butch and Ray Chandler and their families.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may be made to the Bob Isbell-Davis High School Baseball Boosters Fund, c/o Bank of America, 325 E St., Davis, CA 95616.

Graveside services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Davis Cemetery. A gathering in his memory will follow the service at the Isbell family's home.

"We will miss him terribly, but he's gone fishing, " his family says. "Have fun fishing, Bobby, with all your old buddies."

ISHIKAWA

Mary Lynne Ishikawa

Mary Lynne Ishikawa died at home on Sept. 10, 2005, surrounded by her husband, children and grandchildren, after a four- year battle with cancer. She was 63 years old.

A celebration of her life will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, 212 Second St. in Woodland.

Born in Akron, Ohio, to Wesley and Maudress Errett, she spent most of her childhood in Des Moines, Iowa, where she attended Roosevelt High School and was active in Girl Scouts. She met her husband, Donald, at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They were marriage in 1962. She and her family settled in Woodland in 1976.

She demonstrated her dedication to civic responsibility and social issues through her elected role on the Woodland City Council and her involvement with other political organizations. From 1988, she was an active member of the California League of Women Voters, serving on the Legislation Committee. She later joined the LWVC board of directors as the social policy director.

She committed her time to charitable organizations, including the Yolo Wayfarer Center, where she contributed to its success in moving to their new building on 201 Fourth St.

She was employed as the secretary at the United Methodist Church and a supervisor for the Yolo County Social Services Department.

Her family described her as a devoted mother and grandmother, taking active roles in PTA, Girl Scout organizations and spending many hours sewing costumes, attending school plays and concerts, and supporting her children and grandchildren at sporting events.

She was an avid bridge player, playing once a week, even in the final weeks of her life, for more 20 years. She enjoyed working in her garden and traveling throughout the United States and internationally to visit her family.

She is survived by her husband, Donald; daughter and son-in-law Barbara Ishikawa and Kevin Cotter of San Francisco; daughter Naomi Ishikawa and her fiancé Giles Kennedy of Singapore; daughter Suzi Ishikawa of Woodland; daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Rich Molina of Humble, Texas; and grandchildren Anthony, Madeline and David.

She is also survived by her sister, Joan Arnold, of Wayzata, Minn.; her brother, John Errett, of Kahuku, Hawaii; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Yolo Wayfarer Center or the American Cancer Society.

ISSA

Elizabeth "Betty" (Johnson) Caprio Issa

Elizabeth "Betty" (Johnson) Caprio Issa died Dec. 23, 2003, at her Davis home. She was 56.

Born March 31, 1947, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Thaddeus T. and Agnes A. Johnson, she left New York in February 1980 to start a new life in California with her husband and three daughters. She lived in San Rafael for 20 years, working at various times for the San Rafael School District, the city of San Rafael and the College of Marin, as well as in the hotel industry.

For the past two years, she lived in Davis and worked at the Woodland Memorial Hospital.

She enjoyed traveling, whether it was to visit friends and family back in New York or a three-month trip she took to Africa and the Middle East. She liked to visit new places and learn about different cultures.

Her family said she touched many lives and that "she smiled each and every day." She was always involved with helping others, they said, taking in those less fortunate than she was and volunteering with an AIDS-awareness project.

She is survived by her daughters, Lorraine, Monica and Gina Caprio, all of Davis; their father, Arthur L. Caprio of Rancho Cordova; beloved friend Ahmed Issa of San Rafael; parents, Thaddeus and Agnes A. Johnson of Queens, N.Y.; sisters, Agnes Johnson, Hydiah Abdullah and Thaddine Johnson, all of New York state, and Carol Hayes and brother-in-law Bernard Hayes of Virginia; nephew Daniel Hayes of Virginia; nieces, Jennifer Hayes of Virginia, Mia Cruz of New York and Sabrin Abdullah of New York; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Rosary will be recited Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 116 D St. A funeral Mass will be said Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 14th and B streets. A reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to the Epilepsy Foundation of Northern California, 1624 Franklin St., Suite 900, Oakland, CA, 94612-2824.

INVERNON

Delfina R. Invernon

Mrs. Delfina R. Invernon, 87, a 14 year resident of Poolesville, MD, formerly of Winters, died on Monday, April 25, 2005 at the residence of her daughter in Poolesville. Born on May 26, 1917 in El Paso, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Victor Romo and Viviana Lopez Ramirez.

During Mrs. Invernon’s 42 year residency in Winters she was very involved with My Stuff Bags Foundation in Westlake Village, taught dancing and piano and played piano for various local organizations.

Mrs. Invernon is survived by her children, Louis Invernon of Paradise, Armida Joyner of Sedley, VA, Pilar Garrett of Poolsville, and Raymond (Ray) Invernon of Naples, ID., eight grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at noon on Monday, May 9 at the Winters Cemetery.

CAMPBELL

Elizabeth Montague Campbell

Elizabeth Montague Campbell died July 31, 2005, at Sutter Davis Hospital after a long illness. She was 87.

A Davis resident since 1967, she was originally from Selma, Ala., and remained a Southern lady for all of her life. She loved her home in Davis and was a longtime member of the Davis Senior Center, serving on the board of directors.

She and her husband, Davis, owned and operated Cabbages and Kings, a camera store and yarn shop in Davis until their retirement in 1976.

Her avocation was bridge, which she enjoyed playing several times weekly with a close-knit group of friends. She had friends of all ages who remember her as a concerned listener to anyone with a problem and was always ready to offer advice and help.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Davis Campbell Jr. and son-in-law Bill Carlton.

She is survived by her children, Davis Campbell, George Campbell and Shearen Carlton; daughter-in-law and dear friend Jan Campbell; grandchildren Will and Pam Carlton, and Brent Campbell; and great-granddaughter Olivia Rose Carlton.

A quiet memorial was held for her by family and close friends on Aug. 4.
