FLORES

Jack Fabian Flores, Jr.

Jack Fabian Flores Jr. died at his home in Woodland on Wednesday, Jan. 4 at age 59.

Mr. Flores was born May 29, 1946 in Berkeley. He had been a Yolo County resident for five years. He attended Contra Costa College and served in the U.S. Army. He worked as a chemical engineer and warehouseman and was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Richmond.

Survivors include Mr. Flores wife of 39 years, Petrita Flores; his daughters, Mary Boyett and her husband Bill of Rodeo, Tracy Clark and her husband Paris and Tami Flores and her husband Ryan Milbrett, all of Woodland; his grandchildren, Jonathan Smith, Jeffery Clark, Ryan Milbrett Jr. and Alyssa Milbrett, all of Woodland, Christopher Boyett and Zachary Boyett, both of Rodeo; his sisters, Ruth Rodey and Mary Flores both of Woodland and Linda Flores of El Cerrito; and his brothers, Joe Flores of Roseville, Bill Flores of Richmond, John Flores of Woodland and Glen Flores of Oakley.

Services: Visitation is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9 at McNary's Chapel, 458 College St., Woodland. A funeral is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday at McNary's. A memorial service is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13 at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Richmond. McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

FLORES

Valentino Miguel “Cheyon” Flores

Valentino Miguel Flores, 29, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at Mercy Hospital in Sacramento due to the illness of myoidiopathic intestinal pseudo obstruction. Born in Woodland on Feb. 17, 1976 to Robert and Rosemary (Robles) Flores, he attended area schools including Woodland High School and was a member of the class of 1994. Mr. Flores had been employed at Rico's Pizza and Cache Creek Casino, prior to moving to the San Jose area where he resided for the past seven years. A writer of poetry, he won first place honors from the National Poetry Association. He is survived by a son, Andrew Flores of Woodland; a brother, Robert Flores Jr. and his companion Angela of Taft; a sister, Veronica Flores of San Jose; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins in the Woodland and Sacramento areas. Preceding him in death were his parents Robert Flores Sr. and Rosemary Robles as well as grandparents Ramona "China" Flores and Joe Flores. Visitation and vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20 at Woodland Family Worship Center, 386 W. Beamer St., Woodland. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut St., Woodland with interment to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Woodland. Donations in his memory may be made to the Valentino M. Flores fund, c/o Washington Mutual Bank, 1224 East Gibson Road, Woodland, 95776. Assisting the family with arrangements is Evergreen Funeral Service of Woodland.

Valentino Miguel "Cheyon" Flores of Woodland died Tuesday, Dec. 13 at Mercy Hospital in Sacramento at age 29.

FLOWERS

Cora Lee Flowers

Cora Lee Flowers of Fresno died in Fresno Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at age 71.

Born Sept. 20, 1930, in Brackenridge, Texas, Mrs. Flowers was a resident of Woodland for 20 years, until she moved to Texas. She returned to Woodland in 1990. She was a homemaker and worked for Woodland School District in the Cafeteria. She was resident of Fresno for eight years.

Mrs. Flowers is survived by her daughters, Mona Ulrich of Fresno and Debbie Griggs and husband Carl Griggs of Kansas City, Mo.; daughter-in-law, Patricia Flowers of Woodland; sons, Paul Flowers of Kansas City, Mo. and Joseph Flowers and wife Linnette of Santa Cruz; grandchildren, Mike Cartocelli, Brian Cartocelli, Andy Flowers, Amy Flowers, Tammi Griggs, Brandi Katzenberger; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Flowers; son, Carl D. Flowers and grandson, Adam Flowers.

Visitation was held Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Boice Funeral Home in Clovis.

A graveside service was conducted Thursday, Aug. 15, in Lindsay.

Boice Funeral Home of Clovis assisted the family with arrangements.

FLOYD

Josephine 'Jo' Floyd

Josephine "Jo" Floyd died of natural causes at her home in Woodland Wednesday, Nov. 30 at the age of 86. She was born in Diamond Springs, Calif. May 6, 1919. She was a resident of Yolo County for over 80 years. She was retired from UCD where she worked in the dorms. She will be remembered by her children, William Pinnell and his wife Beverly of Coalinga, Sharon Smith and her husband Walter of Davis, Sue Ann Floyd of Missouri, Robert Floyd of Sacramento, Martin John Floyd and his wife Terry of Woodland, sister Ruby Berry and her husband Ray of Silverton, Ore., brother Calvin Mendonca and his wife Pat of Sparks, Nev., 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, numerous great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and very special friends Bill and Charlott Wilson of Woodland. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Ruth Mendonca, husband William Floyd and grandson David Floyd. Services will be scheduled at a later date. Affordable Cremations of Sacramento is assisting the family with arrangements.

FLYNN

James Francis Flynn

James Francis Flynn died peacefully in Woodland Memorial Hospital following the complications from pneumonia Sunday, May 12, 2002, at age 93.

Born Jan. 24, 1909, in Bronx, N.Y., Mr. Flynn lived most of his early life in Richmond Hill, Brooklyn, N.Y., where he graduated from high school before going on to study engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, N.J. He began working for the New York Telephone Company as a messenger at the age of 12, and worked for them for 50 years until he retired. Shortly after retiring, he began working as a commercial real estate appraiser and salesman. In 1932, he marriage Katherine Eva Hoppe, they moved to Matawan, N.J., where they raised two children, Donald Francis and Kathleen Mary. Katherine died in 1963. He had a long term relationship with the Boy Scouts of America, as scoutmaster and commissioner. He helped develop Forestburg Boy Scout Camp in New York, and led frequent trips across the United States to Philmont Boy Scout Camp in New Mexico. He was also a president of the Matawan Rotary Club and an avid sailor in the Raritan Bay, N.J.

In 1978, Mr. Flynn met Elizabeth (Betty) Jans Oliverson. They were marriage in Lincroft, N.J., on Dec. 5, 1981, and lived in Green Acres, Fla., until 1984, when they moved to Woodland. He was active in community service, including literacy tutoring for the Woodland Library, delivering Meals on Wheels, volunteering at the Food Closet, and remaining active in the Rotary Club. According to his family members, "his shocking white hair, trademark caps, bolo ties and fiery personality left a memorable impression on everyone he met."

Mr. Flynn is survived by his wife, Betty Jans Oliverson Flynn; children, Donald Francis Flynn and Kathleen Mary Fisher; grandchildren, Sharon Ann Flynn, Michael Francis Flynn, Linda Tara Flynn-Wakeling, Donna Kathryn Flynn, Tawn Fisher, Dore Fisher; stepchildren, Jeffrey Oliverson, Diane George, William Oliverson, Kathleen O'Reilly; stepchildren, Chari and Chandi Oliverson, Erin O'Reilly, Luke Star; and various great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled at 4 p.m. today Wednesday, May 15, at St. John's United Church of Christ, Woodland.

The family requests memorials be directed to St. John's Church Building Fund; or the charity of the donor's choice.

DUNN

James Francis Dunn

James Francis Dunn died in Woodland Memorial Hospital Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at age 91.

Born June 19, 1911, Mr. Dunn had been a Yolo County resident for 68 years. He served as a plank member on the USS Tripoli during World War II. Prior to the war he served in CCC camps of Oregon and as a member of the U.S. Border Patrol. He retired from McClellan Air Force Base, as a DOD civilian, after 30 years. He was a member of Elks club and American Legion for more than 50 years.

Mr. Dunn is survived by his wife of 61 years, Bessie Dunn of Woodland; grandchildren, Jim Roy and Trisha Newcomb and great-granddaughter, Carisa Newcomb, all of Nice; and great-grandsons, James, Matthew, Joseph and Robert Newcomb of North Carolina.

Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service is scheduled at noon Monday, Jan. 6, in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Woodland.

Memorials may be directed to the charity of choice; or to the Holy Rosary building fund.

McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
