Maria Jacinta Olague-Ramos
Maria Jacinta Olague-Ramos died on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002 in her home at the age of 38.
Ms. Ramos was born in Mexico on Sept. 11, 1963, to Tiodoro Olague Hernandes and Juana Ramos (Flores).
Ms. Ramos was a homemaker for the past 22 years.
She is survived by her husband Francisco Coronado; son, Francisco Coronado Jr.; daughters, Josefina Olague, Estherlina Coronado and Niomi Coronado; her mother, Juana Vidales and father Tiodoro Olague Hernandes of Navarit, Mexico. She is also survived by her brothers, Jose and Panfilo Olague, Pedro Vidales; sisters, Antionia and Concha Olague and Maria Morales. Other survivors include 13 nephews, 14 nieces and her two grandchildren, Analisa and Alissandra Leal.
Friends are welcome for visitation to be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, Feb. 28.
The vigil will be at 7 p.m. today, Thursday, in the Kraft Bros. Funeral Chapel, 175 Second St. in Woodland.
The mass of Christian burial will be Friday, March 1, at 10:30 a.m. in the Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 308 Walnut St. in Woodland. Burial to follow at the Woodland Cemetery.
Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors is assisting the family with arrangements.
OLEJNIK
Michael P. Olejnik
Michael "Mike" P. Olejnik died Aug. 17, 2001, at his Rohnert Park home following a brief illness. He was 60 years old.
A native of Richmond, Olejnik lived in Rohnert Park since 1993. He graduated from Harry Ellis High School in Richmond in 1953 and served in the U.S. Army, with a portion of his duty in Germany. He was a computer consultant for SAP. He also worked as a materials manager for Spectrum Naturals, Black and Decker, and Whitey Research in Emeryville, which eventually transferred him to Solon, Ohio, where he lived for 10 years.
He enjoyed traveling, camping and reading.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Helyn of Rohnert Park, daughter Laura and her husband Richard Bolyard of Solon; son Steve Olejnik and his wife Christie of Valencia; mother Elizabeth Olejnik of Davis; sisters Christine Davis of Davis and Lisa Bruce of Vallejo; and grandchildren Michael and Nicholas Bolyard of Solon.
Vigil Services were held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Passalacqua Funeral Chapel, Benicia. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Dominic's Church, Benicia. Burial was in All Souls Cemetery, Vallejo. Arrangements were under the direction of Passalacqua Funeral Chapel.
Contributions are preferred to the American Heart Association.
OLIVEIRA
Florence F. Oliveira
Florence F. Oliveira died May 15, 2000, after a brief illness. She was 92.
She had lived in Davis since 1991, having moved from Kailua, Oahu. She was marriage to Frank Oliveira for 62 years until his death in 1987.
She was devoted to her family and enjoyed gardening, sewing and cooking, but she was especially happy when she could help her family and friends. She was a very kind and gentle person who was deeply loved and will be sadly missed.
She is survived by her son, Francis Oliveira of Volcano, Hawaii, and his wife Leitani; daughter Jean Bowen of Davis and her husband Adrian Bowen; and five grandchildren, Bruce Oliveira of Honolulu, his wife Jeannie and their children, Sean, Liko and C'era; Teresa Bowen MacArthur of Davis, her husband Robert and their children, Meghan and Bo; Haunani Oliveira of Honolulu and her children Trixee, Taylor and Natasha and her husband Cary of Vallejo; Leslie Zais of Davis, her husband Craig and their children, Scott and Todd; and Brian Oliveira of Los Angeles, his wife Celeste, and their children Brittany and Bronson.
A funeral will be held at a later date in Honolulu at the Valley of the Temples Cemetery.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Yolo Hospice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Chapel.
OLMO
Helen F.M. Olmo
Helen Frances Miller Olmo, a longtime Davis resident, died of natural causes May 17, 2000. Born in Fresno on Dec. 31, 1918, she was 81.
She and her family moved to Davis in 1919 when her father, John D. Miller Jr. accepted a teaching position in the department of agricultural engineering at UC Davis. Her mother, Frances Marie Flack Miller, was a Nebraska school teacher who endowed her daughter with compassion and charity for the needy.
She advanced in the Davis school system from kindergarten to high school, graduating in the class of 1937, a group notable for its fellowships and reunions.
Growing up in the home alongside the university, she enrolled in home economics and clothing design courses. In later years, when queried how she got her Ph.D., she replied, ``The easy way. I marriage mine.'
On Sept. 20, 1939, she marriage Harold Paul Olmo, a young instructor who was hired to teach viticulture at UC Davis under the guidance of Professor A.J. Winkler.
She was instrumental in providing hospitality to many students and academics from foreign countries. Opportunities to visit many grape-growing countries of the world resulted from extended visits that kept life and vistas enjoyable for her family and friends.
Her most enjoyable hobby in latter days had been family genealogy, assisting interested friends and serving as voluntary help in libraries and at the Davis Senior Center.
As a convert to Catholicism, she was active in the women's organization of the St. James Parish Hall and its refurbishing from an old military barracks.
She is survived by her husband, Harold Paul Olmo, professor emeritus of viticulture in the department of viticulture and enology at UC Davis; two brothers, John Dow Miller of Sunnyvale and Charles Richard Miller of Woodland; three children, Paul Stephen Olmo, Jeanne-Marie Olmo and Daniel Martin Olmo; six grandchildren; and four great-granddaughters.
A memorial mass will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 200 W. 14th St. in Davis, followed by a reception in the Parish Hall.
Memorial donations can be directed to Yolo Hospice or to the donor's favorite charity.
OLSON
Helen E. Olson
Helen Elizabeth "Libby" Olson died in Davis on June 16, 2001, at the age of 90. She and her husband, Paul, moved to their home on Iliff Street in Pacific Palisades in 1941, and lived there until moving to Covell Gardens in Davis in December 1996.
She was active teaching Sunday school and volunteering with service organizations at the Palisades Community Methodist Church. She was a past president of the Children's Recreation Service, a member of PEO, and was active for many years in the Children's Home Society.
She will be remembered for her sparkling energy, her concern for others, and her positive "can-do" approach to life. She was a natural leader and organizer, and an enthusiastic advocate for human rights and the welfare of children.
Libby was born near Chicago on Aug. 28, 1910. She grew up in Wilmette, and made frequent visits to her grandmother's house in Lockport, N.Y. She was educated at New Trier High School in Evanston, Ill., and attended Dennison University in Ohio, and UCLA.
Her family moved to Santa Monica after the closure of her father's engineering firm in the Great Depression. She met her husband Paul on a blind date. They were marriage on New Year's Eve in 1937. Their only period of separation was during the last years of World War II while Paul served in the Navy. They had been marriage nearly 63 years when Paul died in September.
She taught preschool children at St. Matthew's Episcopal School in Pacific Palisades, at the University Elementary School on the UCLA campus, and at the Santa Monica Child Development Center. She was a naturally gifted, creative teacher, and a mesmerizing storyteller, who unleashed children's imaginations and instilled a love of books in her students, her children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.
Libby, with her husband Paul, enjoyed bridge, square dancing, book discussion groups and travel. After retirement from teaching, she volunteered time weekly at the UCLA Medical Center. She loved her family, and especially enjoyed her role as grandmother, reveling in every opportunity to visit with her grandchildren.
She is survived by three children, John Olson of Chevy Chase, Md.; Merri Anderson of Tarzana; and Barbara Linderholm of Davis. She is also survived by her sister, Eleanor Coombs of Westlake Village; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at Covell Gardens at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 21. Memorial gifts may be made to Yolo Hospice Inc., P.O. OLSON
Richard James Olson
Richard James Olson passed away on April 26, 2002. Born on Aug. 5, 1945, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, he was 56 years old.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy, and six daughters, Kristina Hudson and husband Scott, of Victorville, Robin Brown and husband Mike, of Davis, Nicole Halley and husband Brett, of Apple Valley, Alisa Olson of Freemont, Alaine Olson of Freemont and Candice Christensen and husband Darin, of Volga, South Dakota and his seven grandchildren.
He is also survived by his parents Harvey and L Vonne Olson; three brothers Robert and his wife Pat, Larry and his wife Sue, and Mike and his wife Janet all of Ipswich, South Dakota and two sisters, Peggy Trammell and her husband Ken, of Mitchell, South Dakota and Patricia Olson of Boulder Colorado.
Friends and acquaintances were invited to attend a memorial service for Mr. Olson on Wednesday, May 1 at 11 a.m. at New Life Christian Church located at 315 Edwards Street in Winters.
Smith’s Colonial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
OLSON
Russell O. Olson
The memorial service for Russell Oscar Olson will be held Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Davis Community Church, 412 C St. An incorrect date for the service was listed in Tuesday's paper.
Olson died Sept. 28, 2001. During his career, he taught economics at Iowa State, helped establish an agricultural college in Patiala, India, worked for the U.S. Agency for International Development and the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations. He is survived by his wife, daughter, sons and their families, his brothers and sisters and their families, and his sisters-in-law and their families.
